Hello team CAG, This is a little long, but please bear with me. I applied to one of the Emergency Services in London, and after passing an assessment was invited to an interview on 18th August. On 30th August I made contact with one of the two panel members who interviewed me as I had received no feedback. I had a lengthy conversation with this person who raised concern about unaccounted gaps in my employment but also stated that I sat a good interview and did not fail it. I was informed if I were to send a complete employment history covering the gaps along with key skills gained/used, there would be potential of a second interview but this would have to be with somebody else. On 4th September I emailed the person above (also Cc’d two other HR staff members) my complete employment history accounting for the gaps. I called my interviewer on 9th September as I had received no communications. I was informed that my information had been passed on and I should contact HR. On 12th September I received an email from one of the two HR staff members I had Cc'd informing me that I have been unsuccessful? No reason/feedback provided. I called this HR staff member the following day seeking an explanation and feedback. To my surprise I was informed that my interviewer had mentioned to this HR staff that she (my interviewer) had informed me that I had failed. My interviewer never mentioned this to me during any of our conversations. I emailed my interviewer on 13th September seeking clarification and feedback, which I am yet to receive. I sent a letter to the Head of Recruitment for role applied for on 16th September, expressing my dissatisfaction and seeking clarification/investigation. I also attached comms I made by email. Received an email acknowledging my letter and will respond no later than 14 days from receipt. GUESS WHAT?...NOTHING!!! Emailed this person on 9th October seeking an update, only to be informed my interviewer has been away, investigation is ongoing and will get back to me by the end of this week (14/10). If I do not hear from the Head of Recruitment OR if I do and the result is not in my favour, can I pursue this further? Your input would be greatly appreciated on this matter. -
1) My 'Actions for getting employment" doesn't stipulate a number of jobs to apply for per week (which is odd, when I claimed before I had to apply for 2). Obviously I don't want to display every single job I apply for (which would risk creating a baseline figure), but what is the minimum number that an Advisor needs to see in order to sanction me (for insufficient applications)? 2) They also included 'log into my UJM account daily' - I have NOT ticked the box that allows the DWP to view the jobs I've applied for, BUT can they still see how often I've logged in? Ta

Hi Guys, Please help I am so stressed and anxious and making myself sick. I have been on Incapacity Benefit since 1997, i was medically retired from the NHS. I cant remember exactly when i converted to ESA but was placed in ESA support group then when the 365 days were up (maybe a couple of years ago) they re assessed me to see if i was legible to continue, the outcome i believe was as i was in support group i would continue getting CR ESA. that carried on then in march i recieved a letter stating as i get £74.36 a week occupational pension x 2 I have one for £13.23 and one for £61.11 and that was to come out of my ESA. And that I may have been overpayed ESA. I looked up online about CR ESA and pension and it says that if you have extra money over £85 they would take 50% over the £85 as i get under that i assumed i was ok. I phoned in DWP in march and I asked them about this they then said I was on Both IR ESA and CR ESA so that rule doesnt apply to me. Then Today I have been sent a letter from DWP inviting me to an Interview under Caution about my ESA and my pension. can anyone advise me i am so nervous as far as i'm aware they new of my pensions as i sent them P60 in the past. please help. I am mightily confused. I have been signing on for 12 months, at the start of my claim I signed a claimant commitment stating I will do X number of steps each week to find work, IE look in papers, ask family and friends, use UJM etc. I completed my job search online and always filled in my activity history on UJM, ensuring I recorded X number of steps as required in my claimant commitment. Part way through the year I was told not to use UJM instead I was given a paper template to fill that stated I must do 35 hours job search per week, this had a section to fill stating the time each task took. Some time later I was issued with a pie chart diagram which showed different activities I could include in my 35 hour job search. Now I have been given another paper template form which states I have to apply for and record 10 vacancies jobs per week. What the heck as happened to my claimant commitment, no where in that did I agree to a 35 hour week job search nor did it state when I signed it that it was a requirement. Secondly, I would never agree to applying for X amount of vacancies per week , what if the only suitable vacancies are ones I have already applied for. And now they have just reissued me a new claimant commitment to sign which is basically same as my old one except they have added “ engage with the work program” Can they enforce this 10 job application rule and what is in place to prevent me from just jotting down bogus applications. Obviously I am fulfilling my claimant commitment still but as there is no actual way to record that activity any more am I even obligated to carry it out. From what I can gather the 35 hour per week is only a suggestion and not enforceable as long as client shows they have took reasonable steps they cannot be sanctioned but I cannot find any info at all regarding the 10 vacancies per week.

I've been asked to attend an 'information session and interview' at my Jobcentre. It's a group thing looking at CVs, training and other opportunities to help people get back to work. Afterwards there's a one on one interview with an advisor to review your JSA and for you to give details about what you've done to find work. The letter goes on to say that if you can't show you're doing enough to find work 'a decision will have to be made concerning whether you are eligible for JSA'. It seemscurious it doesn't use the usual 'your claim may be referred to a decision maker etc' wording.... I'm just wondering if anyone else has been to an in-house JCP session like this with a personal interview afterwards, or if anyone can give me an idea what to expect?

Hi I received a letter on Saturday, spent all weekend worrying about what it is about. I telephoned the number this morning to try and find out more, was advised he has not looked at the case yet but need to wait until Friday when the interview is booked for. I explained i suffer from serve anxiety and nerves and not knowing what it is about is causing me a huge amount of stress, I explained even an interview with my GP I find very stressful but the person I spoke to could not bring it forward or advise me of anything. Can anyone give me some advice. -
I have been asked to come to an interview under caution. I was told it was to do with allegations of working whilst claiming universal credit. What was odd was that I received the letter at the beginning of April, yet it was dated mid February. In the letter, it said that if I did not reply within 7 days of the date as posted, then they will assume that I am not attending and it will result in further action. When I called the DWP officer, he said it was just a mistake - but it seems a bit odd that a DWP fraud officer would get the dates so wrong. Also, he told me just to ignore the serious wording of the letter. I said it was a serious investigation, judging by the wording. I felt he was just trying to get me to come in, thinking it was not too serious so that I do not get legal advice. I feel this is a devious ploy. I am thinking of just saying no comment because I cannot afford for a solicitor to attend but I am afraid this will land me in more trouble. Also, I will ask for a copy of the tape at the end of the interview. -
Hi everyone, I'm new here and after some advice. I was made redundant from my job last September through no fault of my own and been signing on ever since. However, before Christmas I had an appointment with my advisor at my local job centre and gave me details of a job to apply for but 2 weeks ago I received a letter saying that they are going to stop my job seekers allowance from the end of January to the middle of march. I have since appealed the decision in writing but when i went to the job centre today I had to fill in another form and explain again. I know it was my fault for not applying for the job, but I always complete the booklet and attend the job centre on a regular basis to sign on. Any advice? Thanks Louise

I wanted to know what the new rules are with regards to withdrawing consent for the WP to share your info/contact people on your behalf/claim their fat payment for my hard work when I get a job .. as I am sure I read it had changed since last year, also coincidentally each time I attend a review meeting I get loads of spammy job/credit emails in the weeks after which seems a little timely!! Am getting increasingly fed up with the WP provider, by and large I have had a year of having to attend weekly job clubs with slow computers and the like but since I hit the year mark it seems to have ramped up big time, I have a good work history with good companies and a degree and the minute my latest advisor saw it his eyes lit up and I have been pestered left right and centre. I was upped to two job clubs a week and also appointments/training sessions/interview techniques etc on one or more additional days a week and it was getting silly and made me ill so I had two weeks off with stress symptoms. I then had more blinking appointments and changes to my job clubs and was told a few weeks back at 1pm on a Monday that I was to stay after job club that day for extra sessions looking into agencies and applying for more jobs for 2 hours each day that week (mysteriously my letter had 'got lost in the post' telling me this), I kicked up a bit of a stink as I am a single parent and said I had to pick my son up from school at 3 so those times were unsuitable, so with a bit of looking at bus timetables he relented to sessions from 1-2.30 each afternoon that week which was still pushing it as am reliant on public transport which is never the best, I attended the first and then had enough, got upset (I am on antidepressants and suffering severe anxiety at the moment relating to a thyroid condition I have just been diagnosed with) and I decided to get another doctors note for 2 weeks. During this two weeks I had a letter from them saying I had to come in during that time and I politely told him NO, the day my sick period ended there arrived a letter saying I had to attend a review appointment in 2 days time and I just knew he was going to mess me about, sure enough on the Friday afternoon at the appt he says I need to up my attendance to daily sessions of 4 hours, which means dropping my son at school, a 45 min bus journey there, then getting back in just enough time to pick him up, I protested that I had a PC at home and why did I need to do all this on their premises and he said I might 'get distracted' at home (as opposed to their noisy office of course!!), that I had appts to arrange and so on which were being neglected due to them calling me in all the time willy nilly saying they are mandatory and have to attend, and he said as I was a jobseeker I should jobseek during those hours, I have no prob doing this, my JSA agreement says 5 jobs a week and they say 10 which I do easily and have never not done, he is also pressurising me to do full time work/get a better off calculation for FT work, which my JSA flexibilities say I don't have to pursue due to being a lone parent, there is no mention of any beneficial training, and any suggestions for that or clothing for interviews have been shot down in flames, its just flaming jobsearching in their offices every day, presumably so I can't attend any interviews without them knowing and that I get fed up with the arrangement. Its not as if I am not trying to get a job, I have had about 6 interviews in the last few months but none successful, am really fed up with the situation with the WP and its making me feel worse, we are reviewing the situation tomorrow after my session and I know he is prob going to suggest the same again next week when I have 2 inset days at my sons school, I really just resent the fact that they think they can pressure me like this and assume I have no plans for the week or anything else to do, and then get a nice big payment for MY efforts at the end of it all so want to know what my rights are, unfortunately at the beginning I signed all their docs as I was being too blinking nice!! PS. Sorry this is a bit of a rant having looked at it, but felt good to vent!!

Hello. I am currently getting income based JSA for about 1 year now. I stay with my mum, But all of a sudden my mum is saying i need to pay £27 towards to rent as the council will only pay £109. So why now do i need to pay. I have a brother who gets ESA, and my mum gets income support. What are causing the housing benefit deduction, My brother only started claiming ESA this year in march, And all of a sudden the housing benefit is cut. So could someone help me because i am getting the impression the cut is because of me but i have been getting jsa for around a year and my mum has been getting full housing benefit since untill now.

I'm on ESA and PIP due to severe mental health problems. I live in England and am single. A friend typed this up for me as I'm unable to manage this type of thing usually, but I'm really worried and desparate for some advice. A week ago I had to attend a Compliance Interview at the Job Centre. When I got there it turned out they thought I'd had too much savings in the past, and they wanted to see bank statements. Turns out it was their mistake and the bank statements show I'm in the clear. However, during the interview the Officer became extremely unpleasant and aggressive, questioning me about my living situation. They then insisted that I'd have to come back for another interview. I'm presently homeless, only just got a raise in benefit which will enable me to sort out a place, so they are having a go at me for having too much savings to be homeless- even though I haven't had a chance to sort anything out. They then started to rant about how a friend who I stay with occasionally and am very close to must be my partner (even though we're a male and female and both gay), and then insisted I must return for another interview. The whole process took a big toll on my mental health and has set me back majorly both in terms of my recovery and sorting my living situation. My main question is, do I have the right to bring a friend into the interview with me? Just to provide emotional support. Do they have the right to refuse that? I am trying to get an 'advocate' from Mind sorted, but it might be too short notice. Also, although I've got nothing to hide (as the evidence in my bank accounts shows), I'm very worried about how confused I get about details and keeping track of things- in my last interview it seemed that they were trying to trip me up constantly. I don't want to be in trouble for fraud because I get confused! Can they take my benefits away? Any advice at all would be so helpful. Thankyou very much bones

Hi Guys i attended an interview under caution as they felt my partner was living with me, according to what i have read on other peoples threads the interview went as standard. So this is going back to 2012 when my partner left his wife and used my address as a postal address until he got himself sorted so 9 weeks ago i was called in and i've since had over payment letters for 3 months benefits to be paid back from aug - nov 2012 we was not living together and up until recently we never was, yes he used to stay a few times a week and also stay at his mothers house they have got some video footage of him leaving my house on 3 seperate occasions. Since the interview apart from the overpayment letters i've recieved i've had nothing else, im wanting to appeal the over payment as there is no way or no proof he was living with me, but i dont know if to wait a few weeks to see if anything else happens in the next couple of weeks, i am very scared i have worked since leaving school and had a period of 5 yrs on ESA due to the hospital messing up on an operation and causing me a further 9 operations I have been back in full time employment since sept 2015 and in oct i was called in for the interview, where after the interview the nasty man said it will be sent to Dundee for a decision normally takes around 5 weeks this is 9 and im wondering who i can contact to see what is happening or if im just going to recieve a letter telling me im going to court ? What is the amount of time these people have to make decisions ect Please help im sorry it's all jumbled up this is my first ever post

I am a pensioner and full-time round the clock carer to a close disabled relative. I receive no benefits apart from the usual state pension. The disabled relative I care for has severe care needs and is unable to work, they receive PIP and ESA. Upset and frustrated by lack of interest on my life savings I started reading info on savings on the Martin Lewis website. To maximise interest it is recommended to open several of the top interest paying current accounts - which I did. I had money over so accounts were also opened in the person I care for's name (all my money, paid directly to accounts from my bank account). The relative I care for has now been called for compliance interview with DWP, no reason given. Could what I have done have triggered this? I didn't even know about the savings thresholds and can't believe what I have done and how stupid I have been. I feel ill, my anxiety is through the roof and I have felt ill since the letter arrived. I fully understand this was a ridiculously stupid thing to do, there was absolutely no intention whatsoever to cheat the benefits system, the benefits system wasn't even thought about! We're talking about maxing out the current recommended currents acounts. Could someone please advise the least damaging way to explain this to the DWP?

Hello everyone... this is my first post! I hope somebody can give me some advice as I'm sick with worry. I've read and understood all the other Fly Tipping Posts but this scenario is a little different. I live on an estate and at the top of my road there's a council public waste bit. I think it's only there because it used to be a bus stop there but that service no longer runs. Anyway, over the last 2 years there has been an accumulation of black bags from residents surrounding this bin. Indeed, even the council road sweeper man leaves several bags there on his weekly rounds. A council lorry comes very regularly and collects it all. What I'm trying to say that the location appeared to be an accepted place where rubbish was being left & collected on a regular basis. Anyway, a few months ago I remember adding my own bag there as my own bin was full and wasn't due to be collected until the following week. Well, today I received a letter from the local Council saying that items of waste directly connected with me has been found in an illegal area. They want me to attend a PACE interview in December and I'm scared to death. I want to co-operate but if I say exactly as it was I know will be prosecuted which will have direct consequences for me (I'm a newly qualified Nurse applying for posts). My friend says, irrespective of circumstances they haven't got enough evidence to prosecute but as soon as I tell tem what I've done, under caution, they'll have me and proceed with prosecution. I really didn't appreciate that my action was classed as fly tipping but, because of the circumstances described above, I thought it was okay. I can't afford a solicitor and my local CAB are too stretched to offer any support. My friend further suggested that I say I have no idea how the items got there or just keep saying "no comment" but I'm not that type of person. My only defence, if you can call it one, is that the council themselves deposit waste there (I'll need to prove that) but I don't think that excuse will wash. I now appreciate I've done wrong and I feel so ashamed! Thanks for reading! Debbie

hey. in august i received a letter stating i was + £2000 over payed in housing benefits. i phoned my housing officer up she stated that it was cos i didnt provided my payslips even though i did for the first 3 month and then got told i didn't have to any more. so instead of putting my pay slip in i said i would pay it all back in monthly installments which they agreed to. my partner got a job 4 month after i did and had his jsa got cut off so in turn we stupidly thought that the housing benefit had been stopped as well because he was the main claimer. we did not pay our rent for a couple of month because we was trying to get on our feet and making sure we had gas elec and food in thinking later we would catch up with our rent when we was sorted now we he has received a letter saying he is to go to a interview under cation. i am seriously stressing out over this i am an over thinker and am thinking of all the nightmares that could happen. please could some one help? -
I really need some help. My partner is in trouble with the DWP and has been called in for an interview under caution. There was a dodgy message left on his phone regarding work, on the same week he received a letter stating that he was being investigated. My partner is self-employed, but has previously been on benefits for a lengthy period. Does anyone know if the DWP have a history of phoning people using a box phone number to dupe people (i.e. it gives out calls but can't receive outside office hours so therefore can't take messages)? I'd really appreciate some help with this Thanks

My boss has 4 direct reports including myself - one of the roles is being made redundant, the person currently in this role I'll refer to as 'Coyote'. It is definitely Coyotes job that is being made redundant because they have a different job title to the other direct reports. Coyote currently has no direct reports but has responsibility for the work that myself and my 2 other colleagues produce, hence a need for restructuring. In the restructuring move, the remaining 3 positions would report into 3 new Shift Managers, who in turn will report in to my current boss. One of the 3 new Shift Managers will have senior ranking and will fill in for my boss when he is absent. In a 1:1 when I was first told about the restructure, my boss told me that Coyote would get the senior ranking job, a current colleague will get one of the others, which leaves one job up for grabs, this looked like it would be a permanent nightshift role to give the other 2 people more exposure to senior management in office hours. He reeled off a list of potential applicants who 'definitely wouldn't' get this role. He said he thought I should apply but needed to prepare for questions regarding my limited 1 year 3 months experience in the current role. I left my 1:1 feeling a bit begrudged that I would have to fight when others were being gifted and that my boss was potentially not doing things by the book. I did a lot of thinking and decided that I wouldn't allow myself to have to make any more difficult decisions and would put the onus of decision making back on to my boss. I applied for the Senior Shift Manager role. Today I received my invite for interview and noticed two things: Coyote (under her soon-to-be-redundant job title) would be interviewing me alongside my boss. I would be interviewed for the Shift Manager job, not the Senior Shift Manager job. As Coyotes job is being made redundant, this surely makes them a candidate for any one of the 3 Shift Manager roles? It makes no sense to me why they would be involved as an interviewer. In applying for the Senior Shift Manager role, I expected to come up against Coyote as a candidate, not be interviewed by them. I have not been formally told that I've been unsuccessful in applying for the Senior role. The interview is on Thursday 17th September, so I have 7 days in which to say something. I don't want to say anything after the event because it would be seen as sour grapes if I was unsuccessful. Does anyone have any advice on how I should proceed? -
I have a couple of job interviews coming up, how ever their days are not flexible and neither are my bosses. He will constantly find ways to make it so I don't to take time off. If I'm sick, I'll have to work from home, expecting constant calls from the office and clients. If I'm going on holiday, I can only have the dates between flying out and coming back and nothing else, and expected to take calls. If I have a doctors appointment, he will expect me to work the hours inbetween. I can almost never have Mondays or Wednesdays off due to working at a clients, and my work load is too much to take any other day off for that matter! He is also very demanding of the reason I am trying to take time off, and will often tell me to do those things at the weekend instead. How do I get past this obstacle? -
Ok, this is going to be long, but I really need some help! I was in receipt of ESA & HB for myself and partner, from 2007-2014. Due to Kidney failure, Dialysis and two kidney transplants. My DH started work in Jan 14, I told the tax office straight away, they swapped all my benefits over to the correct ones, no problems. My Husband then quit his job, due to being offered a better job, this was in march. We didnt know his new start date so i switched al the benefits back over, all sorted. He started his new job in may- The day he started I won a tribunal from 2012, giving me all my back dated money and reinstating my benefit. Now, my husband was working, and I remained on ESA. I 100% thought I was entitled regardless of my husband working, because I was receiving it for being ill. In October 2014, someone mentioned that I should probably ring the tax office and tell them that my husband was working, That is what I did, and a few weeks later I was given back dated money from tax credits, but the ESA was still there too. I still thought I was entitled, because 1- the tax office sorted it before, so I assumed they would this time. 2- I was claiming due to illness. In December I was offered a job, I accepted, I rang the DWP and told them and they stopped my benefits. Two weeks later, I couldn't cope with the job, It was to tiring, I suffered a miscarriage and was just to 'done' my husband also handed in his resignation, because i needed help dealing with his daughter who lives with us. Tax credits stopped. So i rang the benefts office and told them, the set up my claim again and I was in receipt of ESA again. Lastly, come April, I was better, could look after myself ect my husband took his old job back, I rang the DWP all benefits got swapped to the correct ones. I am in receipt of WTC, CTC, DLA & HB. I got a letter from DWP this morning asking me to go in for IUC for claiming whilst my husband was working. Am I in serious trouble, I genuinely didn't know I was claiming the wrong benefit. I'm so confused by this all. And so unbelievably scared of going to prison. My husband and I worked out that, if it is what we think it is, the over payment would be £7k.... I am a strong woman I can deal with being in the wrong & can face being fined, I'll pay it all back. I just really really do NOT want to go to prison. Please help.

Hi all, have a friend who has received a letter asking him to attend an interview under caution, letter is ambiguous as it states he may been seen by either fraud department or some one from housing/LA. He has no idea what it could be so I had him ring the person named on the letter and their direct line to inquire for more information but they reused to dilvulge any further information stating they would inform him on the day. He would like me to go with him for support but looking at his letter it states several times that he may take a legal representative so the question is can I go support him or is the letter correct that it must be a legal person. Have read several posts on CAG that say someone can go for support with someone on an IUC interview but confused that the letter states what it has. Regards to all

Hi all I've just received a letter from the dwp saying I owe £700 and I must pay within the next two weeks. Its half twelve at night and I'm so stressed I can't sleep. Well actually I'm watching a really good film. Does anyone have a template letter I can send these people? First template letter, I want to know if this money is really owed by me which I doubt. Secondly a letter stating they can have £ per week from my benefit and stop sending me scary letters don't you have IT system to sort out. Thanks caggers -
Please help! I'm very new to benifits, this is the first time ever I have made a claim for Income Support. I have been in receipt of IS since the end of May this year (2015). Yesterday I received a letter asking me to attend the above interview. I tried to ring the number on the letter today, to maybe get some idea of what it was for. However I got the answer phone of the man conducting the interview. The answer phone message made me feel even worse, as he said 'you have reached the answer phone of ****** fraud and error complience officer! FRAUD! Jesus I'm totally at my wits end. I really can't deal with this stress, I have a 16 month old daughter to look after. I'm thinking of ending my claim, and getting a job. That was my plan, and i do have a job to go back to if I want, but I really wanted to be with daughter for a little while longer. I spent yesterday frantically getting together as much paper work to support my case as possible. But is £92.00 a fortnight really worth all this stress? I'm thinking NO. -
Around the two-four month mark, my friend eagerly accepted a UC course. Some of it was actually helpful and useful. Other bits were a complete joke. But anyway, the main plus was it came with a 'guaranteed job interview'. Now I am wondering if this is a [problem]. My friend can not find out anything about the job. I was wondering if anyone has experience of these being a [problem] and also what the rules are for declining the job. If it is possible. The job coach has said he has to take it if offered it so long as it is not commission, however if he doesn't like it, then after a month, he can resign. This sounds bizarre to me. Can anyone offer help/insight on this? Thanks

Hello, I have just had a phone conversation regarding my pension credit. I was happy with everything and they are going to send someone out to visit my home. Anyway, during the conversation, he said to me "I'll just do a hmrc check" then came back, pause and said everything is fine. This just slightly concerned me.......does anyone know what the purpose of this check is? Thanks

Hi. I've been claiming ESA since July 15th 2014. I have just received my appointment for assessment for 24th June 2015. As luck would have it, I have now found a job (I applied for it 6 months ago & was placed on a reserve list), which I start on 29th June. Question is, is it worth my while attending the interview? Obviously, if I was placed in the work group, I would be entitled to about 8 months of backdated allowance, but as I have now found a job, I assume that the claim would be rejected anyway. Does anyone have any thoughts?
