  1. Hi All, just wanted your opinions on this please. A local takeaway owner applied to the Local Authority for a commercial waste bin. Eventually he got one but it took a month to get it. In the meantime, two other shops allowed him to put his rubbish in their commercial bins until his was delivered. Soon after getting his bin, he was contacted by the Local Authority in which they accused him of fly-tipping as one black bag of his rubbish had been found on a local nature reserve with details of his shop inside. He says that he cannot understand how only one bag was put there as when he used the other shops bins he always put 10 to 15 bags in the bins and the other shops are very close to him whereas the nature reserve is about 5 miles away? I would like to know if he is legally entitled to use the other shops bins thereby quelling any fears of prosecution for fly-tipping? The other two shop owners are quite happy to say they allowed him to use their bins Until he got his own but only if there is no threat of prosecution to them. Any ideas? Thanks all.

  3. hi, very odd situation. last night i emptied alot of rubbish in 4 black bags from the shed. folding chair, few wood handles for spade and broomstick, dinner plates, curtains. this mornig everything was gone. including the black bags with alot of old letters etc. about 30 minutes ago some dude with council clothing came and said he went through the black bags, found my letters and someone from the council will be in touch for fly tipping. i said i had the rubbish here, in my drive way. often people take rubbish espically old pc, monitors or metal items. i said on saturday or sunday we were going to visit the depot as i have done 4 times last week for household rubbish. he said he cant say much however i was going to get fined. so i asked where did you find my items. he said on next road by a tree. Right on the main road. i said i had one black bag with letters etc however rest of the items are not mine. as he metioned tables, chairs, matress, bed etc. he said he dose not know but it was his duty to tell me. i am confused and angry. i think whats happned is some people took all my stuff asumming it was something they could sue, saw the bag and realised old letters and dumped it. i asked him if he saw a chair or broomsticks or old pc box and he said no. i am confused. what shall i do. wait for the council to get in tocuh?   4. Hi I've just received a letter accusing me of fly tipping and feel absolutely sick. I have to go for an interview next week. As much as a caution and I will lose my job. They have apparently found evidence with my name and my nans address on. I have never lived at my nans but have had packages delivered before when I've been at work. The place they're accusing me of fly tipping I've never even been and have had to google Maps search to find out where it is. It's nearly 40 min drive from me and 30 mins from my nans in Manchester. We've had 2 skips the last couple of months but through a reputable company and I've contacted them to see where their waste goes if it's passed on etc but they said it all stays within Warrington where I live. I've absolutely no idea how anything of mine could have got there. I haven't had a delivery to my nans for a long time and don't remember throwing any packaging out recently. I really don't know what to do. Please help, thanks.
  5. Hello everyone... this is my first post! I hope somebody can give me some advice as I'm sick with worry. I've read and understood all the other Fly Tipping Posts but this scenario is a little different. I live on an estate and at the top of my road there's a council public waste bit. I think it's only there because it used to be a bus stop there but that service no longer runs. Anyway, over the last 2 years there has been an accumulation of black bags from residents surrounding this bin. Indeed, even the council road sweeper man leaves several bags there on his weekly rounds. A council lorry comes very regularly and collects it all. What I'm trying to say that the location appeared to be an accepted place where rubbish was being left & collected on a regular basis. Anyway, a few months ago I remember adding my own bag there as my own bin was full and wasn't due to be collected until the following week. Well, today I received a letter from the local Council saying that items of waste directly connected with me has been found in an illegal area. They want me to attend a PACE interview in December and I'm scared to death. I want to co-operate but if I say exactly as it was I know will be prosecuted which will have direct consequences for me (I'm a newly qualified Nurse applying for posts). My friend says, irrespective of circumstances they haven't got enough evidence to prosecute but as soon as I tell tem what I've done, under caution, they'll have me and proceed with prosecution. I really didn't appreciate that my action was classed as fly tipping but, because of the circumstances described above, I thought it was okay. I can't afford a solicitor and my local CAB are too stretched to offer any support. My friend further suggested that I say I have no idea how the items got there or just keep saying "no comment" but I'm not that type of person. My only defence, if you can call it one, is that the council themselves deposit waste there (I'll need to prove that) but I don't think that excuse will wash. I now appreciate I've done wrong and I feel so ashamed! Thanks for reading! Debbie

  7. After every flight, Qantas pilots complete a form called a "Gripe Sheet" which tells the mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems; document their repairs on the form and the pilots then review the Gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that the ground crews lack a sense of humour. Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by Qantas' pilots (P) and the solutions recorded by the maintenance engineers (S) Apparently Qantas is the only major airline that has never, ever had an accident. P: Left inside main tyre almost needs replacement S: Almost replaced left inside main tire. P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough. S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.   8. Not the best of pictures, but for something the size of a fruit fly it's the best I could get. This fly has infested our chimney and they are actually coming out through the open brickwork. It's an old place 1860's and we opened up the fireplace in this ex bedroom and installed a log burner a year ago exposing the natural brickwork. My first thought was there must be a dead bird or squirrel in the chimney, but I had the people who installed the log burner back and got them to check the chimney out and there are no bodies there. As this room is on the top floor (2 story) it's under the attic but I have never ventured up there as the previous owners stuffed it to the gills with insualtion, left the old fibre-glass insulation up there and just opening up the door fills me with itchy shards of fine degrading padding. The chimney is way over the far side of the attic too so it's impossible to get to without the fear I have of sending my leg through the plaster ceiling having missed a beam under this padding. So, having called the council Pest Control department and told they 'don't do' flies, I've called 2 Pest Control Companies who assured me someone would call me back and haven't (obviously got too much work to bother! - good ole English service!) I need to try and find out what these are, and how to get rid of them. Thus far I have lit the burner and heated it to as much as I could bear three times now and it does seem to have cleared many of them, but still they come, not so many now, but they head for the windows for the light I guess but they crawl all over the carpet too. I think they are too small to be flying ants and the short antenna make them differ from fruit flies, so I am relying on the combined knowledge of cag to establish exactly what these gremlins actually are. I looked at sprays but most are highly inflammable and not something I want to introduce to a chimney although we don't use the fire a lot and it is summer so I could chance it. Just be nice to know what they are... The photo is a X30 and was taken on my mobile phone through a kiddies 'bug' telescope gadget, just getting the thing steady to photo was bad enough so sorry for the size. Thoughts please?   9. I booked a ticket on Fly.co.uk two months ago but the payment failed. I thought they had problem making the transaction, so I booked with another website. A few days later they emailed me that they noticed I had booked a same ticket with another agency. And if I did not reply that email, the flight would be canceled and I would be imposed charges. I was afraid they would charge me for not replying, so I replied to cancel the ticket. Then, they have kept emailing me to request a cancellation fee of £ 100. And now, they even request £ 112.5 (a reminder fee of £ 12.5). In this email, they sat if I do not transfer the money by April 16, 2014, they will sue me and I will pay more (including the attorney fee and court fee). Does anyone have a similar experience? Could you please tell me what I can do? I really do not want to be sued, but I don't want to pay this unreasonable money, either.
  10. I have just spent £1.50 on getting a letter delivered. It is claiming that we reversed a payment for their "flexifly" service.... and demands payment, instantly. It also gives a German address (but the letter was posted in the UK, without a stamp) - and the only contact details are an email address, and a 50p a minute phone line. The date on the letter is the 5th December - and the email address is @fly-service.co.uk We had a credit card cloned this time last year, and the details on the letter (name and address) match the name and address used then - my name and address, but slightly wrong. That credit card was used to buy flights from Athens to Karachi, and it no longer exists, it cannot have been used again (and reversed by the bank). The letter gives no details of which credit card/debit card was used, if, indeed, there was one used. Certainly our banks have not told us anything - but then they often don't, when they reverse a transaction. Has anyone dealt with fly? is their email address @fly-service?
  11. Dear All I am a new user, I am here because I have a problem and I was hoping here within these realms I can get some advice. In March 2012, I booked a flight with fly.co.uk. Got what I thought was a cancellation email. (my bank put a stop to it, as it was unusual activity on my account. ) Went ahead and rebooked the flight through the email. In August, I started receiving, demands for cancellation payment. I thought this was odd as I had booked the flight and used it. I replied back to their email and did not hear anything from the till October. I got another email, replied back, a month later one more and I replied back, stating I had used the ticket. No reply. Eventually I get a letter saying they will take me to court. I called them up and they have told me that the first ticket I ordered was not cancelled but became cancelled after I did not return their email. They are telling me, I booked two tickets, even though they are identical and that I did not cancel one and thus I am liable for the one I did not cancel. However, I did not realise that this ticket was not cancelled and they waited until August to inform me that it had been. I feel that the below email, if you did not know the context, is not clear and gives no clear steps as to what to do next and could be mistaken for a cancellation email. Is there anything I can do or should I just suck it up? The cancellation is 120 pounds. email I received about the failure of payment.
