  2. I took out a Unsecured Personal Loan with Halifax online in December 2011. I was NEVER asked questions like, can you afford the payments, are you employed/unemployed, and I certainly was not asked about my income. This have got so bad I am currently on an IVA - Halifax increased the IVA from 5 years to 6 years forcing me to pay for longer. I am now wondering if bankruptcy is the best option. Do I have a claim that Halifax lent to me irresponsibly without going through my finances first?

  4. Colleague's boyfriend took the car and was speeding. (If it at all matters, he took out temp cover with another company). The insurance company Policy Wise has now sent a letter to say they want £250 or they will cancel the insurance policy. Just checking that they are able to charge this amount? Surely they have to have a breakdown of costs otherwise it is seen as a penalty?   5. I requested my credit file from Experian and it states I am not on the electoral roll: "No Electoral Roll Information available from the addresses provided". I registered to be on the Electoral Roll a few months ago. This was confirmed to me by my local authority and I also received a voting card for the last general election. Therefore this has shocked me. I have been applying for bank current accounts over the last few weeks and, disappointingly, been rejected by all of them. I am already in a weaker position than most people as I have a non UK passport, not even an EU one, and mine is from a country which many financial institutions classify as a 'high risk' one. And then to also mark me as not being on the electoral roll would be another negative when banks check my credit record. I had some questions please: - if Experian say I'm not on the electoral roll, is it likely the two other credit reference agencies will state the same thing as well? - what could have gone wrong? - how long does it normally take for the records of the credit reference agencies to be updated about somebody being on a local authority's database? - how may I get this rectified please? How long does it take for the credit records to be corrected? - last, but not least, is it worth me applying to more banks? Or should I wait until the records are updated, even if it takes many weeks? How fussy are banks about somebody being on the electoral roll please? Thanks a lot in advance for the advice.

Went to ATM link cash machine in my local shop .i wanted to withdraw £500 the machine made the right noises £180 came out the cash machine and then the machine came up with an error I then checked my bank statement which showed £500 taken from my bank.now am £320 down what can i do? Lady in the shop said this evening when the shops closes the machine will be checked will i get this money or not my bank has made note of this

Hi All, I have a Halifax CC account in arrears and I pay 1 of the debt collection agency a monthy amount regularly. today i noticed in my noodle credit file that the halifax account is closed and show satisfied with £0.00 balance. then I logged into my halifax online and noticed that account is missing from list of accounts. just wondering before I call anyone do I need to be mindful of anything saying to them?   11. After Swiss bank UBS agree to pay £940m in fines to settle charges of manipulating Libor, Damian Reece, The Telegraph's Head of Business, says the scale of undetected wrongdoing is "shocking". Swiss banking giant UBS has agreed to pay £940m to regulators in order to settle charges of manipulating Libor interest rates, fraud and paying bribes to brokers. UBS' 1.4bn Swiss franc (£940m) fine includes a £160m payment to the Financial Services Authority, the largest penalty ever levied by the British watchdog, and $1.2bn paid to US authorities. The penalty is the second-largest fine paid by a bank and is more than three times the £290m fine levied on Barclays in June for attempting to rig the Libor benchmark rate used to price financial contracts around the world. The FSA said at least 45 people were involved in or were aware of the rigging and that the breaches occurred over a five-year period between January 2005 and December 2010. The watchdog described the misconduct as "extensive and widespread", with at least 2,000 requests for inappropriate submissions documented and "unquantifiable" number of oral requests.   12. Ahhh. . . our old friends Welcome Financial Services ltd get £150,000 fine. . . Organisations are learning the hard way of the consequences of mishandling people’s information – and others need to heed the lessons the Information Commissioner, Christopher Graham, warned today at the launch of the ICO’s 2011/12 annual report. The Commissioner’s comments came as the ICO imposed a civil monetary penalty (CMP) of £150,000 on the consumer lender, Welcome Financial Services Limited (WFSL), after the loss of more than half a million customers’ details. Information Commissioner, Christopher Graham, said: “Over the past year the ICO has bared its teeth and has taken effective action to punish organisations many of which have shown a cavalier attitude to looking after people’s personal information. “This year we have seen some truly shocking examples, with sensitive personal information, including health records and court documents, being lost or misplaced, causing considerable distress to those concerned. This is not acceptable and today’s penalty shows just how much information can be lost if organisations don’t keep people’s details secure. “We hope these penalties send a clear message to both the public and private sectors that they cannot afford to fail when it comes to handling people’s data correctly.” Today’s penalty was issued after WFSL’s Shopacheck business lost two back up tapes which contained the names, addresses and telephone numbers of their customers in November last year. The tapes have never been recovered. This latest penalty means that, since being given the power to issue CMPs from 6 April 2010, the ICO has issued 21 penalty notices, bringing the total value of the penalties issued by the ICO to over £2 million. “It’s a case of ‘wake up and smell the CMP,” the Commissioner said. While figures from today’s annual report show a 0.3% drop in the number of data protection complaints received by the ICO - with 12,985 complaints made last year – the report highlights the public’s growing concerns about unsolicited marketing calls and texts. During the last financial year the ICO saw a 43% rise in the number of complaints under the Privacy and Electronic Communication Regulations (PECR) – which govern electronic marketing - with 7,095 complaints received. Commenting on these latest figures, the Information Commissioner said: “Last year the ICO gained tough new powers to tackle unsolicited marketing calls and texts, including the power to impose a penalty of up to £500,000 on the worst offenders. “We have now set up a dedicated team to enforce the Privacy and Electronic Communication Regulations and we are currently working to identify the operators responsible. The ICO has executed search warrants at a number of sites across the UK linked to companies we believe are breaking the law. “We have also set up an online reporting mechanism on our website that allows people to report any marketing texts or calls from unidentified senders. We have received over 12,000 reports to date and we are confident that this work will help us identify those responsible.” The ICO has also witnessed a 7% rise in the number of Freedom of Information complaints, with 4,633 complaints received during 2011/12. Despite this increase in the ICO’s workload and despite cuts in government grant-in-aid, the ICO has reduced by 66% the number of FOI cases that have been with the office for longer than 6 months. The number of data protection cases taking over six months to complete has also fallen by 82%. “Our work resolving freedom of information requests has also increased. As budgets tighten and public spending comes under even greater scrutiny, public authorities must remain transparent and accountable if they are to retain the trust of the public they serve,” the Commissioner said. Meanwhile, figures from today’s annual report show a 60% increase in the number of audits carried out by the ICO Good Practice team. Of the 42 organisations audited, 90% felt that the process raised awareness of the importance of data protection in their organisations, showing that that the ICO’s audits are bringing real information rights benefits to those that take part. The ICO is extending its audits to cover public authorities’ compliance with the Freedom of Information Act and has also introduced advisory visits to help small and medium sized organisations.   14. hi, I have been using moneysupermarket to do a soft credit search on me using callcredit, and it was coming up as LOW. Which i did not expect, as i check my credit report regularly with experian, and there is nothing bad on it. After reading about callcredit , i registered for their free credit reports for life. On there it showed a ccj from 2008 at my old address, which i moved out of in 2005. So i did not receive any court paperwork about this and had no idea that there was a ccj against me. It is with Northampton County Court. Any help on how i get this sorted out??? Thanks After
