  1. Northern Powerhouse department to close office in Sheffield and move 247 jobs to London Read more: http://metro.co.uk/2016/01/29/northern-powerhouse-department-to-close-office-in-sheffield-and-move-247-jobs-to-london-5651943/#ixzz3yiz1scce
  2. Travelled to London on Monday, Waterloo. So in the congestion vicinity. Forgot to buy the congestion charge. Is now Wednesday. Am I going to be hit by a penalty charge notice? Is there anyway I can pay the congestion charge and avoid a PCN? Regards
  3. Hi, I have received a PCN for failing to comply with a No Entry Sign in Morris Place N4 London. It's a very confusing road which splits into a No Entry two thirds of the way down the road. What is particularly confusing is that there is still a 'Turn Left' sign at the end of the road - possibly from before a No Entry rule was introduced? This 'Turn Left' sign can clearly be seen on the photographs on my PCN notice. I've done a bit of googling and can see that this Morris Place No Entry has been the cause of much discussion previously with a number of people appealing and having success. I think some of the road signs have now changed (I don't think there was a No Through Road previously at the top of the road). Is it worth me appealing again? It was dark and I did not see the sign, I also used to live in Finsbury Park and it was always OK to drive down this road, but must have changed in the last few years. It seems ridiculous for such a tiny stretch of road. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks
  4. Hi PCN challenge Yoda's! I have posted this over on MoneySavingExpert, will update both with responses if useful... Help! A friend who shall remain nameless recently received a PCN on his motorbike at the Aquatic centre from Gemini Parking Solutions. Here's the info: - he parked his motorbike next to the cycling parking outside the front of the centre, to get there he had to access this area, via a gravelled area which could in theory be deemed to be pedestrian walk area but he did not pass through the Gemini Parking Managed and ANPR fitted carpark entry nor did he enter their carpark area at any time -there are no signs saying do not park here - the ticket was issued in this area and the reasons given on the PCN are 'the vehicle was parked in a no parking zone' and in the other section 'parked on a public footpath' - he had on a previous occasion on asking the Gemini parking warden (who was not wearing any identification vest or name badge other than holding a parking ticketing device) be told to park in an area with similar coloured gravel and it would not be a problem. - this carpark is motorcycle (MC) park for free but no where is there a designated parking bay, so MC users have to take up a car bay, which on another occasion he was told not to do as he would incur a fine again from another unmarked warden. He wonders if the jurisdiction of Gemini is enforceable beyond the car park area and into the pedestrian area, which must be owned by the London Legacy Development Corporation who would have control of the area outside the designated Gemini parking controlled area? Should he wait follow advice as per your newbies thread and appeal before the 28 days expires, or should he respond within the 14 days to try and retain the discounted amount if unsuccessful at a later appeal date. It would seem on this thread that Gemini dont offer the reduced amount beyond the 14 day window [as per another website] that contained an uploaded letter from 2012 sorry couldn't attach link as new person. Thanks in advance!
  5. Accompanied children under 11 will be able to enjoy free travel on all National Rail services in London from 2 January, At the moment children are only allowed free travel when they are accompanied by a paying adult on Tube, Transport for London (TfL) rail, Docklands Light Railway, and London Overground trips. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-34791332
  6. Halloween me and a couple of mates went to a party. We were all really really drunk, I got was being stupid with some random boy and ended up slapping him but we sorted it out after I had apologised and it was done however hours after the police had arrived because two people got stabbed and instead of arresting anyone else I was arrested because of that boy. I've been on bail since then for ABH but the police said the boy has bruises on his face which is common assault not ABH. In the interview I didn't admit to anything, I said we had a little argument but i can't remember hitting anyone. They have asked me to go back to the station today I'm a little nervous as I'm a first time offender never had a problem with the police and never really had a fight before (I'm 17). What should I do about this/ what will happen to me?
  7. Hold onto your hats, this gets quite confusing! ... I have received a section 21 from a rogue London Landlord after complaining to the council for serious disrepair. I signed a tenancy agreement back in 2010 and the Landlord was a different company, but we paid our rent to a letting agent who managed the property. The company I now refer to as my landlord has been in charge of the maintenance of the property since 2011, yet the Agent still collects my rent payments. We have just last 2 weeks received a section 48 - which i have not signed receipt of... The landlords name is a new person I have never had any dealings with, and the "landlord" I have been dealing with for 4 years is now refereed to as an Agent. My agent (also pretty crooked) has told me that they are no longer my agent, but will not provide any proper notice or information on when this has stopped. They just ignore my emails. I have always paid my rent to the Agent, but neither the Landlord nor Agent will provide me details of where I can pay the rent to from now for the remainder of our 2 months notice period. It is clear there is some pretty dodgy stuff going on just to get us out due to our complaint to the council who inspected this week. I have never missed a rent payment in 5 years. Them not wanting me to make the remainding payments makes me think they just want rid and will have stronger case if i miss these last two payments? I am thinking of a counterclaim. Anyone any ideas or cases or examples of who I should be talking to here please? Thanks alot!
  8. Hi everyone, Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give. My parents (both OAPs) have just received a PCN out of the blue for supposedly taking an illegal right turn on a town centre road. There are actually zero right turns on the street in question, so the only thing that could have happened (although they cannot remember it) is that they made a u-turn using a supermarket loading bay situated on the right of the road. There is a photograph enclosed that only shows the car driving down the street, (it could be on any street, in any town, judging by the photo!), so naturally we went online to check the supporting video footage that this photograph was supposedly from, only to find that the photo is the only evidence included on the page. The main question here is what should they do now? It is impossible to speak with a human on the telephone, but they do not want to pay a fine without seeing the video of the incident actually happening. Is there a particular contact they should make to request the footage or should they challenge the PCN? Obviously, they worry that if they take too long or challenge and fail, the fine will double. Thanks guys!

  11. I was having problems with my broadband this summer and customer service were not being helpful. I kept calling back and finally a lady was honest with me. She told me that there are network problems in my area and they would likely be this way up until October. She then credited my broadband account in light of this. If any of you are having problems - I am in Wandsworth, SW London - I hope this helps
  12. Does anyone know of any genuine employment lawyers that will do a FREE assessment for no win no fee. All the websites offering this always want an assessment fee which totally goes against the principle of no win no fee! I do however need help as I have a five day final hearing coming up in February.
  13. The quote below is from page 19 of my attachment called to poor to pay (Council Tax) "Four London boroughs (Bexley, Brent, Islington and Southwark) now have a policy of not using bailiffs for council tax support claimants. These authorities clearly recognise the negative impact of bailiffs on potentially vulnerable people, and instead pursue other means of enforcement. It is interesting to note that these authorities’ collection rates are close to the London average, while Lambeth, the authority that used bailiffs against the second most claimants in 2014/15, has a significantly lower collection rate than the average. This suggests that it is perfectly possible for authorities to refrain from bailiff use for council tax support claimants without adversely affecting their collection rate. " Info from here http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:FtkP42_6BaYJ:z2k.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/TooPoorToPay-FINAL.pdf+&cd=17&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

  15. Hi This is my first post and I'd love your input!! I recently bought a flat and moved in 10 days later. I noticed clear No Parking without a valid permit signs. I had not been informed how to obtain a permit and there was no information on the signage on how to do this. I received a parking ticket from London Parking Solutions that day as I was moving furniture into the flat from my van. I was given the phone number of the managing agents of the flat and called them. They had not been informed by solicitors of my acquisition of the property so were unable to issue me with a permit. They told me that my van would be exempted from parking tickets until I could be issued with a permit. I appealed against the ticket but was rejected on the grounds that I did not clearly display a valid parking permit as per the warning signs. I am reluctant to waste time with an appeal to IAS as I've heard they're not as independent as they should be and publish no details of appeal outcomes. My instinct is to ignore further invoices and wait for the Letter Before County Court Claim and then fight them there. Would I have a case on the grounds of unfair contract since, as I am entitled to park there, they have incurred no financial losses??? I am allowed two permits for 2 cars, the first is free the second is £25 payable to the managing agents.
  16. Does anyone know whether electric wheelchairs are permitted on London buses? I am getting told yes by some TFL staff, and no by others. That suggests that I could end up with problems if the bus drivers are also unsure! Does anyone know a sensible, wheelchair friendly way of getting from Paddington train station to the Natural History Museum? I am trying to take my two autistic children, and I use an (electric) wheelchair. It does have to be Paddington as none of our trains go into any other station, so the underground seems to be impossible as no wheelchair access.
  17. I have received a Parking Ticket from City of London for parking a plated truck partially in a suspended bay (one of five suspended) whilst loading. The only indications the bays were suspended were a parking meter further up the road with a cover on it and the dual purpose pay and display signs C.O.L use which fold down to say the bay is suspended. I visited the same location the following week at the same time and the covered meter was totally obscured by builders from the building site for whom the suspension was for (I have a photo of this). I appealed on the basis of De Minimis as I was only partially parked in one of the suspended bays and it had no affect on the builders as they had suspended the bays prior to them needing them as they were going to fence the bays off a few days later when they would start receiving deliveries. The informal appeal was declined. I'm looking to make a formal appeal and I believe I can use the fact that the authority did not properly take my appeal into account as one of the basis of my appeal. Could anyone confirm the best terminology to use for this? I'm also looking to appeal as the Dft Signs manual states the cover for the parking meter must only contain the words "No Waiting" it specifically states it must not state "No Parking" and "No Loading" which as you can see the meter cover contains the prohibited wording. In addition the word "No" exceeds by a long way the maximum letter size as given in the Signs Manual. I've noticed that the suspension signs are not on the DfT approved suspension sign list http://www.dft.gov.uk/traffic-auths/?search=parking+suspension It's not amazingly clear from the Signs Manual whether or not the suspension signs are required in addition to the meter cover in the signs manual. Could anyone confirm whether this is the case? Campbell V Camden mentions that a Pay & Display bay can be suspended with a meter cover with no signs, the meter & cover were around 5 meters away from where I parked. The case also mentions the addition words "No Parking" & "No unloading" and that the TMO requires a compliant sign to be displayed This is the TMO https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/services/transport-and-streets/parking/traffic-reports/Documents/TMO-Parking-Places.pdf I have other photos eg of where the truck was parked if these help. Any advice would be appreciated.
  18. I have received a PCN from the above saying I parked in an area designated for commercial vehicles. I am sure I did not spend a minute there as I got out of the car and back in almost immediately and drove off. I need assistance to dispute this, as it is crazy. THan you
  19. Network Rails has said it will review it’s plans during development of the Thameslink programme at London Bridge after a short closure last night caused “Life Threatening Chaos” for rush hour commuters. Lines were shut down for 45 minutes from 4.20pm because of a person on the tracks at Streatham, the operator said. The knock-on delays saw huge numbers of people stranded on platforms and some forced to jump closed barriers to avoid the crush, while onlookers posted dramatic images online. The London Mayor, Boris Johnson said: “This chaos must end now. The scenes at London Bridge last night were completely unacceptable.“ It is a disgrace that Network Rail and the train operating companies have failed once again to get a grip of the situation at London Bridge. Mick Cash, leader of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union said last night’s scenes were ‘horrific’, adding: “RMT is sick and tired of the excuses about the continuing chaos at London Bridge which led to horrific scenes at the station last night. I wonder if those that jumped the barrier are being prosecuted.
  20. The masked Islamic State militant known as "Jihadi John", who has been pictured in the videos of the beheadings of Western hostages, has been named. He is Mohammed Emwazi, a Kuwaiti-born British man in his mid-20s from west London, who was previously known to British security services. They chose not to disclose his name earlier for operational reasons. Emwazi first appeared in a video last August, when he apparently killed the American journalist James Foley. He was later thought to have been pictured in the videos of the beheadings of US journalist Steven Sotloff, British aid worker David Haines, British taxi driver Alan Henning, and American aid worker Abdul-Rahman Kassig, also known as Peter. Now we need to see the scumbags face
  21. Family member drove into London week before Christmas. Paid the congestion charge on their phone next day within the 24hrs allowed, whilst travelling on a train. Received acknowledgement 'Thank you for your payment.' In less than 2 weeks receives a penalty charge £65 if you pay within 14 days. Rings them to say it was paid. They were then asked to check bank account. It is then found the cc was not debited. Explained the ack received on phone and was told 'we hear this a lot.' Now i'm thinking, if you checked your bank account on the same day as making the payment, you wouldn't see it as debited. It would be the next day you could view the transaction. If it didn't go through it would be out of the 24hr allowance, so you are then in the realms of getting a penalty charge even though you are doing your best to pay the charge. I want to know if this is a hundreds or thousands of pounds worth of penalty charges given to people who this has happened too, a massive problem which hasn't been noticed yet by the public. If you receive a payment ack on your phone, will there be a trail to what is causing the transaction to stop short of debiting the money but still giving you reason to believe you have paid the charge, by sending a confirmation of payment. I look forward to comments on this. Maybe the problem would attract more attention if The Congestion Charge had it's own section in this forum.
  22. Howdy, I recently recieved a Penalty Fare notice on a London bus for apparently not having an Oyster card. What had happened was I tapped on, but later on in the journey my wallet was stolen without me being aware. The ticket inspector went ahead and gave a Penalty Notice. Since this is a 16+ Oyster Photocard it shouldn't be hard to prove that I actually did tap on. The can just find my name and the corresponding card and dates and journey. In any case, I appealed as soon as I got home but now I have gotten a letter saying the following: Now, I did not recieve any letter prior to this telling me any information was needed or that my appeal was rejected. My e-mail address is also on record and I received nothing there. I am attempting to call them, however I haven't managed to get through as of yet. It's clear they are just after my money, and not even bothered to verify facts. I'm sure if this was a matter of the court I would win, but obviously that isn't something that I want the bother of. Does anyone have any advice regarding this? Thank you!
  23. -- I just did something stupid....I found an oyster card on the floor a few days ago, it had around £1 left on it. I just got the money transferred to my existing oyster card/handed the card in so £6 including the £1 on it. What are my best options: I don't want a criminal record. Yes it was stupid: my rationale was just to give the money to charity because it's unlikely to get back to its owner, but I didn't realise how seriously TFL takes this kind of thing...which I have now found out.
  24. Hello, Just wondering if anyone can help. I was caught using a freedom pass - which I shouldn't have been. I had some extenuating circumstances which I explained to the officer and although he started off being quite serious - at the end of the interview he didn't show me his notebook, seemed to put a line through what he had written, gave me back the freedom pass, told me to top up my oyster and not use the freedom pass again. he had taken down all my details before that. I am not really sure what happened, but I believe he let me off. It's quite surprising and I just wanted to check that this is the case or if he was just giving back the pass but is still going to process the conviction. I got a bit overwhelmed and confused - so didn't ask?
  25. My 80 year old mother had taken out several loans over the years (unknown to us) we looked them out to discover that she had PPI on all of them. She did not know what PPI was nor was it explained to her at the time of the loans and she wasn't asked if she wanted PPI. Needless to say we got her to make a claim. London Scottish is in administration and she was asked to fill out a lengthy claim form for her six loans. I filled out the form for her and in it one question asked was what means she had to cover the loan repayments - she had a state pension and on DLA. The matter was passed to their administrators 'Deloitte' and they have came back asking for proof of her pension in 2005 and stating that she would have needed PPI. I am not clued up on PPI but I would have thought that she had been mis-sold it if she wasn't even asked if she wanted it and was put on her loan without her knowledge, but Deloitte appear to be coming from it different angle ie as if they were evaluating her financial suitability. Where do I go with this one?
