  1. Hi All I have an interesting one for you, perhaps you can help answer my query. I bought a former RAF married quarter back in December 2016. When we bought the house we were told that the water supply company was Severn Trent Water Services (not to be confused with Severn Trent Water but they are part of the same company). Now Severn Trent Water services have a license to supply business customers and as far as I know their license does not include the supply of water to retail customers. As you can guess we are not a business and therefore should be supplied with water by a company who supply water to retail customers and are licensed to do so. Some time back I contacted the Council for Water Services to find out who supplies our water, and received the following information. Our water supply should be with Affinity Water, but they have no record of supplying water to our postcode (or the other 3 postcodes within the estate). Our waste water is dealt with by Thames Water who have records of the post codes but cannot bill the estate. It seems that currently the MOD is responsible for paying Severn Trent Water Services for the supply of fresh water and the treatment of waste water. So who bills us for the water supply and waste water treatment? Severn Trent Water Services as far as I understand legally cannot charge us as they have a license to supply business customers, and we are a retail customer! Affinity Water cannot charge us as they have no records for our property, Thames Water cannot charge us as they are being paid by Severn Trent Water Services so the service hey provide. If we were with Affinity Water (who we should be) then they send out a single bill for fresh water and waste water and pass on the waste water charge to Thames Water. I understand from some property owners who moved in over a year ago that they were sent a bill by Severn Trent Water Services but how can they be billed? This company does not have a license for supplying retail customers, and we are not business customers - if we were business customer we could actually choose who supplies our water (since April 2017). What would be the basis of their charge as all the properties are currently un-metered.
  2. I had a bill from Inter-credit international demanding £275 for an outstanding water bill on behalf of south staffs water. I paid it in full on 31/3/17 as it was an oversight. However, they have not passed the payment on to SSW. They are being very awkward and wont help me trace the payment. I spoke to SSW today and they confirmed they HAVE NOT passed my account onto Inter-credit??? why did Intercredit have my details? Is this a breach of Data Protection? provided SSW with the bank acct and sort code and bacs ref again and they said they would sort it out, eventually. But i don't know what to think - can anyone offer any advice please? Thanks
  3. I have receive a Court Summons regarding Anglian Water. I had no idea that there was any problem as its paid monthly by direct debit. Its a house I rent out and the paperwork was sent there. now I have to pay the part that was owing from last year and they have included the whole of this year up to April 2018. Plus the court fees and their solicitors charges. Is it fair that the court sends out the original paperwork and does not care if its correctly served? At least they should get a signature to prove service.
  4. Hi All, Please bear with me. I was made redundant over a year ago, and as a single Mum, I've just started my own business, but am still relying heavily on benefits while I find my feet - financially. Our landlady's told us she's selling the house in June and as we've been here for 5 years and are so happy and settled, I'd love to somehow be able to buy it. The house is expected to go on the market for 220K. My mum recently sold her house and has a 30K deposit she can give us and I'm now considering the following options: 1. My ex, who earns a good wage (100K) can 'Buy to let' for us? This sounds too good to be true - what are the issues surrounding this? 2. Would my 71 year old Mum be able to re-mortgage her house that she owns outright? It's value is 200K. Is she able to do this at her age - how much could she raise - again - what are the issues surrounding this? I'm pretty convinced that our dream's not achievable, but I thought I'd ask here first - I've heard great things about this forum. Here's hoping, Many thanks in advance.
  5. Thames Water has a fund in place which can help to pay your water bills if you satisfy their hardship criteria. If you have used this fund before or if you decide to use it now, we would be interested to hear about your experiences of it. You can post in the Utilities forum:- http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?121-Utilities-Gas-Electricity-Water Other water providers may well provide similar schemes. Check on their websites and let us know.
  6. Hi, I've been trying to despute my water bill with Welsh Water as I feel I'm being over charged. In a recent conversation with a representative I was told that my property was on the lowest tariff I am still paying more than my neighbors & friends in much bigger properties. I pay £32.00 per month but my neighbors are paying between £18.00 & £22.00 per month. Is there a higher complaints procedure I can go through to get myself heard as so far I've been met by unsatisfactory excuses as to why I pay more. Thank you for your time.
  7. When you hear a Judge crticise the management of a company like Thames Water for their bad behaviour, it reminds you of the poor agressive behaviour by water companies we see on CAG. E.g using High Court enforcement on debts owed by customers. Water/sewerage provision should never have been privatised, as there is no evidence to support greater investment by these companies in maintaining infrastructure. You hear reports of water leaks going unrepaired for many weeks, after being reported. Bills seem to increase every year. Excessive profits mostly end up going to foreign investors overseas, as most are foreign owned. About time it was renationised !
  8. Hi all, This morning I have received court papers from Northampton Court for unpaid water bills. When I first moved into this property, after a while I realised that I hadn't received a bill for water, i phoned Southern Water and was told that I wasn't a customer of theirs. I told them that I was receiving water, but they insisted that I wasn't known to them. I tried again a few months later as it played on my mind and was told I would be phoned back - I wasn't. After a while I forgot all about it...for about 8 year! They have also sent a summons to my ex-partner who left about 5-6 years ago. This morning they are asking for £1800+interest. I'm considering admitting the claim, as I have had the water after all, but it annoys me that they have never sent me any bills at all, and flat out told me that I wasn't a customer of theirs. Before I do that, is there any defence I can submit? Oh, forgot to mention that I have had debt collection agency letters recently pertaining to it, but the figures changed each time as did the agency so I thought it best to ignore them as some looked like [problem]s.
  9. This relates to a previous thread. When you are on a meter????????? http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?354115-Get-a-Rain-Barrel-%28Water-Butt%29 You can also save your grey water for use on your garden. Use a similar water butt system to collect water from your sink and washing machine (bath water would need a pump, and not enough shower water to justify a pump unless flooded with teenagers. Collecting sink water is fine but avoid edible food waste (attracts vermin). Mine goes straight down the loo, small piece only, or else collected in a bag for our dog poo bin. Can't put such waste in a refuse bag cos of our fox problem. I use a simple submersible pond pump ca £30 to pump out into a hose pipe for distribution to the flower beds. Does it smell, slight sniff of washing machine water but it goes after half an hour. My meter consumption is down from 100L/day to I could go completely off drain http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2009/may/12/humanure-composting-toilets but lets not go down there just yet:-D
  10. Hi, perhaps someone here might have some good advice. Southwest Water has just sent us a demand for advance payment for water supplies (probably estimated) , payable in two instalments. Up til now we've always paid weekly or monthly, but we've never trusted direct debits to anyone , and with good reason. Now suddenly Southwest Water want to take nearly my entire pension for two months. What do these people think folk are supposed to live on? I would like to ask if they can demand the whole amount like this, and what can we do? To be absolutely honest they have always been difficult and a right pain, for many years. We're also now aware they've been the "second worst for complaints" in the past. No surprises there. Two questions if we may: 1) Should we set up a standing order (SO) for a corresponding monthly amount amount from our bank to our Southwest Water account. Or b) There is no way they are getting my pension for two months, so what can Southwest Water do about our choosing to pay monthly by standing order? Thanks and kind regards.
  11. Hopefully a quick question. I've been taken to court by the water company, who are looking to get a CCJ. I've agreed a repayment plan with the company. Do I need to do anything on moneyclaim or with the court papers or can I just leave it? Thanks
  12. I have lived at my address for 3 years. I am on a water meter supplied by Portsmouth Water. My meter is usually read in July and January each year. My concern is Southern Water. Every time my meter is read they up my bill. They up my bill twice a year which I feel is unreasonable. At the start I was paying £13, now it looks like I'm going to be paying £21. It means I have had an almost 50% rise in my bill over 3 years. When I get my bill through, they also claim I always have an outstanding balance. I pay fortnightly on a payment card. The bill is saying I owe a balance of £59.73 and they will have to increase payments yet again. I'm not on the qualifying benefit to have my bills capped. Is this justified!?
  13. I need to ask a question about my water bill. I am on a meter with Portsmouth Water. I had my bill in this morning. I don't mind the fact that its gone up by £1 month but I am concerned about all the different standing charges they add onto your bill. They charge a wholsale standing charge at £5.14 then they add another retail standing charge at £9.24. My water usage was charged at £34.10 for the 6 month period, which I think is cheap. It seems to be its these standing charges which causes the bill to go high. Anything I can do or is it standard?
  14. Hi. Ive received a MCOL claim from AW for approx £200. Ive been paying them monthly by Standing Order, prob not quite enough each month so arrears have arisen. In September 2016 I received a letter threatening court action for arrears, I phoned them and agreed a payment plan, which I've been paying since. Couple of questions, what or where can I find the T & Cs relating to my contract with AW, where can I find the payment terms ?, are there any ? My original bill says "A payment of £33.10 is due on 2 Apr 16 and further payments are due monthly from 2 May 16 until further notice. The bill amount shown above is included in the installment plan.", is this the legally binding payment plan ?, this appears to me to be just information sent to me as opposed to being something I've agreed with, also as the term is April 2016 - March 2017, am I paying in advance, again, where does the T & C point to this ? Also the above paragraph could be read as the first payment is £33.10 but others may vary. The Claim Form is somewhat vague it states "The Claimant claims the sum set out alongside being the amount due and outstanding from the defendant", is this really good enough ?, should I make an application for further info (CPR 31.14) ?, make an embarrassed defence ?, I aim to make an SAR to get hold of payment dates, and transcripts of phone calls. Would a judge think it acceptable for a company to start a claim where the defendant is making monthly payments, has contacted the company and arranged a payment plan ?, for example if following the above 'plan' of £33.10 per months, Id be only £70 behind this. Final question, Court Fee is £25, Sol Fixed costs (on commencement) £50, now reading CPR 45 I think Im correct in saying there can be no further costs even if the claimant wins with the exception of default/summary judgment costs or possible travel costs ?
  15. I'm after some advice if possible. in my stupidity I haven't being paying my water charges. about 4 weeks ago I received a letter from the county court for welsh water charges from 2016-2017. My wife immediately opened a new account from 18th Nov and has made a monthly payment. I replied to the court with a part admission for the charges from April 2016 to Nov 16 as my wife had opened an account and was making regular payments, I also supplied the new account number However I have received a response from welsh water that they have denied my claim for part admission. are they allowed to carry on with the courts for the full amount for the financial year, as they will essentially be getting paid twice from 18th Nov for water charges at the property.
  16. Hi all! I was behind with payment to Southern Water & recently paid a first instalment online after receiving one of their red letters. Soon after I received a letter from Moorcroft (attached) stating I should not pay direct to SW anymore. My question is, should I continue to pay direct to Southern Water, or should i acknowledge Moorcroft & deal with them directly? Many thanks!
  17. On 18th April I had a new washing machine delivered. As soon as the men left, I tried it out. The washing boiled and I scalded my fingers when I tired to remove it. Immediately I contacted Currys by email. I expected them to send the men straight back, but they did not, and a seven month long battle began. Indesit sent an engineer on 6/9 who told me the machine was working perfectly and the fault was mine. When I heard that, I suggested then that perhaps the machine had been connected to the hot water. Without even checking he said it was not. He told me that he had a good mind to make me pay for the visit as there was nothing wrong. He walked out while I was talking to him. When he left I put it on again, first cottons, then wool at 20 degrees. I sat at the computer while it was washing, and the boiler fired up. The boiler feeds the radiators and the wet room and the washing machine, and since only the washing machine was on, it was clearly connected. I posted on Indesit Face Book page. They told me that their engineer had made his report, which they believed, and that if I posted again I would be banned. After another battle they eventually sent a senior engineer today 27/10 who finally admitted that the machine had indeed been plumbed into the washing machine. I have to thank the CAB for monitoring the situation. It has been so stressful it hardly seems possible that someone can complain, and clothes ruined and they would not return, and I believe the visit today was because I started to list the costs involved, like their paying the difference in gas used from last year. Todays visit was by a senior Indesit engineer . Last Friday, however was not so good. The person they sent had no English, no identification, no job sheet and no tool kit. He could not understand what I said. He got his 'boss' on the phone and gave it to me. I spoke to the 'boss' and asked him if he would explain the job to the young man because he could not understand English. The 'boss' said he did not know the job either and expected me to explain . I was so nervous I threatened to call the police, because I really thought they were making a fool of me . At the he ended the call and the young man left. That is unpardonable.

  19. This is about water suppliers to small businesses in Scotland. I received a bill for about £400 for a years water supply from business stream - seems a little high to me, given that at my previous location the bill to the same company was around £100 per year. Has anyone on here any experience of switching to another supplier other than Business Stream, and were their charges any more reasonable? All I have water wise is one toilet and a kitchen sink to fill the kettle. I am looking for a supplier with a good standing charge per day, and not worrying about metering of the actual amount used which is very small.
  20. Myself & my wife had up until April this year, a limited company which ceased trading at the end of October 2015 & was dissolved in April this year. South West Water have obtained a County Court Judjment for outstanding charges for water usage before the company was dissolved, and they are adament that they are going to push for payment, even though we have informed them of the companies status. We used our home address as the Registered address and it was the address for correspondence, but we traded from a different address, and it is the trading address which ran up the debt. I am confident that they would be unable to pursue us personally for the money, as we are not personably liable, but would love to hear some reasurance on this, as I really don't want a bailiff calling at our home with threats etc, I think they are trying to call our bluff. Any advice would be welcome. Cheers
  21. Hi all I'm new here, so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place. I have a problem with Anglian water, which I could really do with some help on. I got into debt with them through no fault of my own. I moved into a property where the landlord asked me to put the water into my name. The property I moved into had had an extension built on which was converted into a flat. I called Anglian water and gave them a water reading. Imagine my suprise when 6 months later I received a large bill which was not only for my property but for the flat next door as well. I called Anglian water and they advised me both properties were run from the same Meter, therefore whatever water next door were using was being charged to me. I contacted the landlord who was a complete arse and refused to acknowledge or do anything. Anglian water said I was liable for any future debt by the other tenants and although they admitted what was happening to me was crap could do nothing to help. I couldn't afford to move at the time so was stuck in a really bad situation. Eventually I borrowed money to move as my water bill was just getting bigger and bigger as the other tenants were just wasting water. I agreed a payment plan with Anglian water which I have kept up to date with. However upon checking my credit file Anglian water have now marked it with a late payment. I had a really squeaky clean record as I pay everything else on time and now my credit rating has changed to poor. I owe £925 even though most if this was from the other tenants. Anglian water has also changed the date the debt us from making it sooner than it was. Every month it's showing as a late payment of 6 months. Is there anything I can do as this has severely impacted my credit score even though all my other accounts are up to date. Just annoyed as I have never missed a payment from the payment plan I set up. Many thanks in advance.
  22. Hi all, my garden has been flooded for two whole days with raw sewage, I called Essex and Suffolk water, who directed me to Thames water to report the issue. Thames water visited my house to look at the problem, they explained that they had a sewer collapse, which they were repairing, they have said that when they have done the repair, they will be back to do a clean up. I have had to leave my house for the last two days because the smell is unbearable, especially in the recent warm weather,my lawn and path are ruined. Is there grounds here for a claim against them for what I have had to endure these last two days? Many thank for all and any answers or help Moonlandings
  23. So, long story short, we caught the Water bottle provider (for office water) filling his pockets with mints from the meeting room. He was only supposed to, and trusted with, being in there to change the water bottles over. we dont want this little thief in the building any longer we called to terminate the water contract - they have stated a) they dont give two hoots about their staff and b) they wont cancel the water order, will, come to premises and take the goods and continue to bill us c) "bring it on, we have lawyers" No apology, nothing. here is the agreement enclosed that we signed, yes we can give three months notice as its dated 2014. what rights do I have - without court, bearing in mind its a civil agreement not a criminal one - yet my issue is technically criminal (ok its only mints but the principle is there). we threatend the fact we may call the police about this and for them to just take their stuff and go - but he proceeded to take that as blackmail! We just dont want them in the building ever again nor do we want to pay them a penny more! They are also member sof: http://safecontractor.com/ and http://bwca.org.uk/
  24. I have just sorted out my council tax and I have now had a letter from marstons, saying they are coming with removal contractors on July 21st. This is for a CCJ to severn trent water. I was already aware I was behind with this and had filed a N245 for a variation, however when I phone Bradford County Court on Friday they said they were just about to deal with it. Do their officers have right of entry. Should I tell them that the N245 has be sent. There will not be any cars there and I will not be at home. But I don't want them to break in. I was under the impression they could not force entry.
  25. What can I do? When I first moved here last year, I gathered the landlord had passed my details on to the water company like they did for gas and electricity. Back in Jan, I had a letter from Welsh Water addressed to the occupier/owner which pretty much said that they believe the property to be empty and if so could I contact them and ask them to cut off the water to prevent leaks if a pipe burst. I did the right thing and got in touch with them, said the date I moved in and explained that my landlord clearly didn't pass my details onto them. For my honesty, they then issued me with a ridiculously high backdated bill which runs from August last year right up until something like march next year (So contains what I owe backdated and the yearly rate). Unfortunately this estimated usage rate is nowhere near a fair amount. I am a single person living in a 1 bedroom property, that only has the washing machine on twice per week at most and only has 1 bath per week here (Because I hate baths and don't have a shower. I just go to another persons home for showers). Their estimated usage amount is around the £40 a month mark. I am a very eco friendly person which is reflected in my gas and electric (which cost's me less than £20 a month for both). Now, I am in the process of having a water meter installed. While I wait though I am having over £70 a month taken off me via direct debit. I asked them via email, that if when I have a water meter installed, the accurate bill for first 3 months is considerably lower than the estimate, would they refund me the amount I have been overpaying? They said no. Can they actually do this? Is there any way to get my money back that has already been paid once the water meter proves my usage is significantly less than what they estimated? Thanks
