  1. Hi, gotta go for an IUC on tues, now our claim is joint in both mine and hubbys name, and entirely above board!! only get a pittance, anyway, only Ive gotta go,would that indicate thats its something to do with only my income? thx
  2. My wife, who works for the NHS as a healthcare assistant, recently went for an interview (also in the NHS) for a job as a clinical coder. She was offered the job conditionally on references, but then the offer was withdrawn when the references were received, citing "discrepancies" between the interview answers and the references. Specifically, she had had some time off for knee surgeries (arthroscopies on both knees) - this was stated in the references. But no question about health or sick leave was asked in the interview, and she didn't volunteer the information. The two interviewers claim that they did ask the question and that my wife denied having any sick leave - but she was in fact never asked the question! The offer was refused not because she had sick leave but because they perceive her as being dishonest. I suspect that because the interview was not recorded, and it is two people's word against one, there is nothing that can be done. Nevertheless it is very annoying and she is thinking of making a formal complaint to HR.
  3. I can't make an interview for a course and I'm worried about what to do? I doesn't say on the letter that I got from the jobcentre that this is mandatory that I attend. I quite happy to change the date.
  4. I am currently waiting for the Jobcentre to get back to me with a home visit appointment for a customer benefits review(ESA). I was placed into the support group around June 2014, I know this is just a standard review that is happening to everyone as I have contacted them on the phone querying why I was given this letter to attend an interview. The thing that's bugging me is that I live with my grandfather and sometimes I have bills that are due to be paid before my benefit money goes into my bank account, so that I don't get into financial difficulty my grandfather puts the money I need into my account so I can pay my bill that are outstanding then retakes the money back when my benefit payment is paid to me. Is there anything wrong with doing this? Will it be seen as extra income?
  5. Hi all, Just a quick question; I've been off work for two weeks & wanted to rtw tomorrow, (I've worked there just over a year) not had any warnings / been late ect) Despite being told that was fine this morning I've just been phone by another person & told I cant rtw till I've been interviewed & an appointment has been made for Wednesday with the manager..… I've never heard of anywhere I've worked doing this… anyone else heard of this? Only thing I can think of that might be an issue is that I've emailed them whilst I've been sick (to let them know I was going to dr's & that I would be off, also let them know what was wrong/what was going on next dr's appointment ect) emailing was easier than trying to ring as no one answers the phone & meant I had proof I'd been in contact Thanks for any help x
  6. Hello All, I have just recently won my Employment Support Allowance appeal. I received a letter saying "I have to attend a Work-Focused interview" This as come has a surprise has I have just been found too unfit to work. My questions are... (1). What is a Work-focused interview? What will happen? (2). Are these Work-Focused Interviews weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly or just a one-off? (3). Do you have to attend I heard somewhere that you are not obligated to attend.
  7. Hi All, In short I have been caught using a Freedom Pass ticket of my father. I have a auto top up Oyster card which I kept in the same place as my dad's Freedom pass. The holders of the two cards were the same on the outside and at a certain point in time i must have picked up the freedom pass without realising and went on normally using that in my everyday life. (I never actually open the holder to check cards as mine is auto top up). My dad travels abroad as he has a house in Europe and doesn't regularly use the card therefore was not aware. This was completely my fault and I have admitted to this when the officers carried an interview on me at the station when they stopped me. Since then I received the letter stating that I might be prosecuted where I followed the forums advise and apologised asking to pay all costs + admin explaining the events. 2 months later (today) I receive another letter inviting me to another interview under caution for historical offences being investigated on the oyster card. I assume these where the trips carried out by me when I was thinking I was using my normal card. I am very confused by this letter and I was worried about the consequences. The questions I have for which I would appreciate any help are: 1) Is it safer to take a solicitor? From the point of view that I want to limit any damage. 2) Since the history they probably have on file of my travelling on various occasions is valid and I am willing to pay the fine, if they decide to prosecute what is the worst that can happen in court given that I have a clean record and I raise my hand up that I did a mistake? 3) How one would respond to the letter received? Do I ask about the historical offences they are referring to? Should I again try and negotiate an out of court settlement? 4) They say I have 7 days to respond. Is this upon receipt of the letter? 5) What would be your recommended next steps? Apologise if this topic was discussed but I haven't found a thread discussing the same situation. Many thanks in advance.
  8. Am I able to have someone with me when I have an interview at the jobcentre? Have heard I have my interview tomorrow regarding my rapid reclaim and I am really worried about it. The person I would take would be my best friend. Thanks
  9. Hi all, I was hoping that you good people could offer any advise. My son was placed in the ESA support group. The claim was made November 2013 and he was finally placed in the support group in September 2014. We received a letter today titled Notification of Office Interview. I thought with him being placed in the support group that they could not harrass him. I can't upload he letter so I will typr it out below: An office interview has been arranged We would like you to attend an interview at: xxxxxx with xxxx. What to do if you cannot keep this appointment: If you cannot keep this appointment, or wish to report any changes in your circumstances, please contact me on xxxx. Why it is essential that you attend this interview This interview has been arranged because your circumstances may have changed and we need to ensure your payments are correct. Following this interview, we can arrange for you to see a Work Coach at the Jobcentre. They will be able to support you in considering your options for returning to or starting work. They can help with; Training to get the right job Work taster or work experience Discuss permitted work and how that can help you The best way to search and look for work What you need to bring to the interview Passport Driving license Photo ID AND Last 3 months bank statements. When you arrive at xxxx Jobcentre you will need to take a seat etc etc.... Do I have to take my son to this interview? My son is autistic and he can not cope with these kind of situations. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
  10. Hi everyone, In June 2011 I was caught travelling on an incorrect ticket and was interviewed under caution by a FCC revenue Protection Officer. He didn't take my signatures on the statement or his notes although I clearly remember him stating the caution and then proceeding with the interview. Thnaks to this forum, I got some good guidance on how to handle such a case and managed to pay a charge to FCC prosecution department and persuaded not to proceed further with the case (a substantially high amount imho but I was travelling without a valid ticket so was clearly in the wrong). Now,I am required to apply for a job which requires me to have a DBS/CRB Standard Criminal Record Check. I am worried that the 'caution' may show up on the criminal record although I am certain that the caution procedure was not strictly adhered to. Please can you advise if such a caution will show up on my criminal record? Your comments are most welcome. Thanks,
  11. Hey All Just a quick post tomorrow i will be going to attend a interview at the dwp for a interview under caution for claiming whilst my partner was working. its not all as it seems hes on a 0 hour contract and most weeks he works but certain times of the year work dies down which leaves them with no money and is unpredictable when it will restart, they was going through a hard time and didn't declare income as it is my claim and i was undergoing depression as i lost twins and nearly lost my mum to cancer then got pregnant a month after losing twin so i wasn't in the best place and im just getting back to myself. I did stop claiming herself and declared income as she is still entitled to housing benefit and council tax as its a low income, i worked out i owe around 5000 claimed for under 12 months, will i go to prison? has anyone been through this situation? does anyone know what will happen?
  12. Unhappy Housing benefit under caution interview Hi I would like some advise Last week I got a letter from housing benefit about an interview under caution I started my claim in 2010 and was renting a house that my brother owned I was honest with the council and told them about this. At the end of 2010 I had a big falling out with my sis in law and she threatened to kick me out and make life difficult for me. To avoid this my brother put my name on the house title deeds so that if anything happened to him I would still have a place to live. Through out the whole time I was still paying u brother rent. Twice after this someone from the council came out to make sure my claim was right and no one mentioned anything. A name on a title deed is not something that can be hidden it is on government record and information that can be obtained at anytime. I am now worried that they think j have bought the house from my brother but no more net was exchanged I did not take out a mortgage or had any other interest in the house my name was purely on the title deed for the security of my children. I am really worried and am sick with worry doea anyone have any advice
  13. Hi I had an interview for a job today that I only heard about last Sunday, before then I had already accepted a job offer to start next Monday 1 December. After going for the interview today they didn't indicate either way if they wanted me or not but just suggested I delay the other job start date to give them more time to consider things. Should I just tell them no or is there a chance I could also use this to get the other company I was due to start with to up my salary or benefits? FYI these are both entry level jobs paying just over 20k so I'm not a senior exec 2 companies are desperately fighting over or anything.
  14. I am currently in the ESA Support Group. I have just received another Atos appointment as to work capability. After the last appointment shall we say i have requested this appointment be recorded. They say that my appointment may be cancelled as not all ATOS offices have these recording devices and that they will be in touch. Can anyone give advice as what to expect, is this the norm etc, and what as to the assessment itself .
  15. Refund fraud mistaken return tk maxx, bought lots of items in august, returned new jacket/jeans from my wardrobe which tk maxx claim is not theirs. Seen cctv and i have returned an item with a tag from another. I have been under a period of stress with baby/uncertain job/family member advanced cancer. It was an innocent mistake as i thought the tags belonged to those items. in actual fact, there is no distinction on the label between a jacket and another jacket. and this is the case i put forward at 'police chat' with solicitor, it was strange debating wether TK M sold 'Superdry' stuff. I left without caution. What happens after police interview? Office mentioned he will call tk maxx and have a chat. Any ideas??
  16. Hello all. i started my claim for ESA at the middle of May 2014 and have still not yet had my WCA. I have just today received a letter from my local jobcentre(below) stating that i have a work focused interview in a few weeks time. As i said, i have not yet even been for my ESA medical, kinda feels weird that they would be discussing going back to work before they have even examined me? Do i actually need to go to this? i note its not signed by anyone nor is there mention of benefit sanction if i fail to attend. The reason for me being on ESA is through having to come out of work due to mobility issues following an accident lifting at work which resulted in spinal surgery and further minor ongoing surgerys and day cases. I dont travel as its best to keep it to just the neccesary as it always ends in pain and discomfort for days after trying to walk anywere, my nerve into left leg is constantly agravated and still suffer nerve compression due to scar tissue from the op. So, is this a case of them trying to give the impression this is compulsory or is it something that i have to do at this stage, without them even bothering to send me for examination yet. How can they think of work when they didnt do the examnation yet? to me it seems non logical.....or do i have my brain on upside down today? its possible im not understanding something as my meds can make my brain a bit of a happy factory at times Sorry my images are small, theres imgur pictures available. i.imgur.com/kgQCQRp.jpg i.imgur.com/Mi692ni.jpg
  17. I was going for an administration job and reached the second stage of the recruitment/interview process, when the company suddenly turned around and stated that I would have to undergo a credit check. I have been having a few debt problems on the count of my recent divorce from my ex-partner and had to take out a myriad of loans to keep my family home with 2 young children from going under. The company realised my bad credit score and in the end did not offer me the job because of it. I am struggling to pay my rent on the low income job that I am currently doing which I have been in for the last 5 years.... it's not enough and then when there is a glimmer of hope, it got taken away just like that due to a credit check! So I am desperate to know what other people's experiences with this kind of issue has been and the methods you have taken to move past this. How has this affected you? Because quite frankly, it's affected me and the up keep of my children badly....
  18. Hello I'm just enquiring about the Job Centre's ability to pay for travel expenses to an interview. I have an interview in Edinburgh but I live in Manchester. My 'Work Coach' has advised the Job Centre will pay for my travel, but they will only pay for the train. The train works out to be nearly three times as much time travelling as going by plane, but it's also more expensive. Having done some research, it seems the money comes out of a 'Flexible Support Fund' but information about this is very scarce as it seems to be allocated at a local level by District Managers. I'm wondering if anybody has experience of this or if they can give me some more information? Ideally I'd like to get all travel expenses paid for as it seems stupid to have a means of reclaiming the cost but not using it. Thanks
  19. Hi all, I wrote a book last year and it was picked up by a publisher and was published in February of this year 2014 and has been doing pretty well, it is available worldwide. I run a Facebook page which went crazy popular and it has now got over 100,000 likes. I was approached by a publisher to write a book on the subject of Wicca which I did. I have been on benefits since being made redundant last March 2013. When my book was published I had a case worker who I saw regularly to help me get back into work and I asked her about the book and what I need to do and she said I shouldn't worry it is more a case of paying tax on it at the end of the year as long as my savings or earnings don't go past £6000. Well the book hasn't made £6000 yet I get a monthly payment from the publishers for royalties of the sales and e-book sales, it started out as about £600 but has now whittled down to about £250 a month. I am also on a work program called A4E which everyone knows about the book I even took a signed copy in for one of the advisers as she was interested in Wicca. I have always been totally open about the book with both the dole and A4E. I often told the person signing me on I had a book and they would say 'Oh good for you I will look it up' and nothing more said. Now I have been sent a Customer Compliance Interview letter and it has got me a bit worried. Also I have lived with a guy for about 20 years, just a joint tenant he is one of my oldest friends and neither can afford a place of our own, so we share. It has been brought up time and time again if we are living together as partners and after house visits they have been satisfied we are not partners. I am gay and he is straight. But he does not have a bank account so gets his wages or benefits or whatever money put into my account as it makes it easier because the rent and most house hold bills are paid direct debit from my account. I am worried as the Customer Compliance wants to see my bank statements that it will bring up the old are you living together as partners and especially with him using my bank account they may not believe we are not partners. I am very worried over this whole thing and don't know where I stand legally. Can I just not go to the interview and sign off if I can find a job quickly?
  20. I have just been for my first Jobcentre Plus interview this week .Transferring from ESA to JSA.I can only describe it as "like being strip searched at an airport !" Well done JobcentrePlus West Derby Liverpool.
  21. Hi, I just wondered whether anybody can help me with this. I am in the Support Group of ESA and I am also in receipt of both the care component and mobility component of PIP. I received a letter today from my local job centre saying I have to attend a work-focused interview with a view to helping me back into employment. I telephoned them to ask what it was for and why I was being called in for a work-focused interview whilst in the Support Group and they said it is because there is a new advisor at the job centre and she is calling people in “for a chat, just to get to know them”. As far as I’m aware the DWP don’t call you in for a chat, just to get to know you. I’m really worried now that they’re going to try to force me into work or sanction me because I’m not capable of working. They said on the phone I had to attend or it will affect my benefits. Anybody any ideas why this might have happened and what I can do about it?
  22. hi all, quick question, I got a letter asking me to attend said interview, from what I gathered over the phone its about when I was on jca and doing a part time college course (I think I didn't put my student loan down as income) this was almost 2 years ago and im not stressing about it. Anyway my question - I attend the interview (at my local council building as it was a Saturday) but the place was locked, no lights on 9i took photos) and nobody there so what should I do? as I don't want to get punished for non attendance cheers guys
  23. Hi all, My sister attended her interview today with he DWP compliance officer. They wanted to see her because she negligently failed to inform them of her savings when she claimed benefits. I honestly think she's losing her mind because she keeps forgetting things and lands herself in trouble. She has zero understanding of the benefit rules (I'm no expert) and never knew how much savings or capital one is allowed to have before qualifying for benefits. She has worked her whole life apart from this 16 months. Anyway, the DWP want full bank statements during the period she was on benefits, theres's definitely been an overpayment. She claimed for around 16 months. She's now told me she will refuse to bring bank statements and will voluntarily offer to repay all the benefits she's received. Is this even possible ? She is now working and just wants to get on with life. She's worried they will take her to court so she just want to repay everything rather than stress. What do you guys think? Can she just offer to repay everything to make the DWP go away? She doesn't know the full amount but given her high rent , income support etc, I'm assuming it's around £17K. The whole family is stressing about this as we are worried about her wellbeing. Many thanks for any imput.
  24. Hi all, hope you can help. My sister has been invited to attend an interview with a compliance officer at the Jobcentre. I rang them on her behalf and was advised this was due to undeclared capital but they would not give me the full details. When she claimed Income Support, she forgot to mention some money in her account, over £6k and I can imagine this is the reason for the interview. She is really worried and is feeling suicidal. She has never broken the law and this was definitely not intentional given her mental state. This is the worst thing that could ever happen to her as she has suffered from years of depression and anxiety ( she is still taking anti depressants ) and has just gone back to work and signed off benefits. She also has children with special educational needs and is worried if they will be taken away and so on. My question is, if she offers immediate repayment of any overpayment, will they still take her to court ?. She is in pieces and is even considering leaving her job. Also , how is this type of interview conducted, is it the same as an Interview under caution? . I am working and not able to go with her at the interview and am worried she will have a breakdown as she can't stop crying. Any advice would be really appreciated, many thanks. Liyanne
  25. Dear all, In mid-May I was stopped by an inspector after touching into a station and was caught using my friend’s 18+ oyster which has a monthly travel card on, I initially remained quiet because I thought I was under arrest. The inspector then threatened me if I kept quiet she will call the police and the police will ask me the questions, I did not know if she has the right to do so but I flustered upon hearing possible police intervention and obeyed. She then took her notebook out and asked me a series of questions, while another guy went to get the oyster history printout of both oyster cards she found in my holder (I was carrying my friend’s oyster and my old photocard which I kept as souvenir after its expiry). She also got another lady to take my address and call someone else up to check the validity of my address. I cooperated and answered all her questions honestly, however I received rather racist comments during the interview which obviously was not recorded in her notes. At the end of interview she pulled out a small rectangular yellow card and read the words out to me, it was along the line of “you are not under arrest and you do not have to stay with me”. I am certain about the “you do not have to stay with me” part because I clearly remember feeling very confused. She then added a question to her notebook and asked me “I read these words out to you [motion towards yellow card], yes or no?”, to which I said “yes” because, well, she did. She read her notes out and asked me to sign at the bottom, in her notes she said I deliberately tried to hide my friend’s oyster by giving her my old oyster first, which does not match the facts because she opened my oyster holder herself (without my permission!) and found my friend’s oyster before I took my old oyster out. By no means was I trying to hide anything so I immediately disagreed with her, and she changed her notes into a neutral statement of me presenting her with two oysters. However when I got the prosecution letter earlier this week, the statement of facts clearly says I initially showed my old oyster and before presenting my friend’s oyster when being asked. The typed version of notes from her notebook, which does not have my signature, also incorrectly says she cautioned me before asking me any questions. Apart from this she also changed my answer to one of her questions, from “my friend bought it (the pass)” to “I asked my friend to buy it (the monthly travelcard) for me”. I am very very worried now, what could/should I do? If I write to them to ask for settlement out of court, would this indirectly means I agree with the evidences? If I do so and they do not accept my offer of settling out of court, would I still be able to choose to plead not guilty and would the letter I wrote make any difference to the trial? Would the omission of caution make any difference to the validity to the statement? If I knew I did not have to stay with the inspector before answering any questions at the very least I would have kept my mouth shut! I have read through a lot of threads on this forum but don’t seem to find a similar case, thank you very much for everyone’s patience and time to read my entire post up to here. Any help would be gratefully appreciated, thank you very much in advance!
