  2. After being in my new place for a month, the dreaded TV Licence falls through the door When i moved into my new place, like a good little boy i registered on the voters roll. Yesterday they even sent me a letter saying that i have been included from the 1st September dated 28th August Call me a cynic but do the local authority or the local housing authority inform TV Licence of any new additions to the register or new tenancy taken up?? This is some coincidence
  3. My son keeps getting letters and visits from TVL he did have a TV licence before but since last year he has not been watching TV he only uses his internet. They are threatening him saying he is under investigation etc, he is getting really stressed out apparently they have evidence even though they have not entered the property, what evidence could they possibly have to stat with and what can he do aout this harassment? Any advice would be appreciated. Regards Mashmallow
  4. Hi All I was looking to see if anyone had any advice as I can't seem to find a lot online. My partner has received a £190 court fine for missing TV licence payments and we were only given 7 days in which to pay the fine. The money is expected to be paid tomorrow and we cant afford £190 in one go, we could pay a bit now and more later in the month. Does anyone know who to contact to see if they are able to negotiate a longer payment term? Thank you!!
  5. Hi, I made a complaint to GoSkippy yesterday as they cancelled mine and my partners joint insurance because we got the date wrong for when his provisional licence started; they gave 7 days notice of cancellation. The mistake was unintentional but GoSkippy refused to let me amend the policy and pay extra instead opting to cancel the policy leaving me having to answer that dreaded question every time I apply for insurance from now on; they of course managed to charge me silly money for the cancellation as they said the mistake was ours and also told me I could reapply for a policy after ours was cancelled!!! I have a cart-load of no claims on another policy but this cancellation will still affect me badly so I want redress as this was an innocent mistake. As an aside, my partner today had a call on my mobile from Eldon asking him about an accident he has never had; he is a learner and has never had an accident and he has never given my number as a contact so what gives? I'm really not happy as what they have done is going to affect me financially for all time. Apart from going to the ombudsman which is next on the list, any advice anyone? I've read online they are terrible at dealing with complaints. Thanx
  6. Evening all, I am of course another person to receive a LLP for not taxing vehicle. I did in fact SORN my car at the time and unfortunately have lost the receipt since moving nevertheless I intend to fight this. I previously searched on this forum and found a few things but sadly struggling to find what I need. I would be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction or tell me the following: - Relevant legislation relating to Tax/SORN and the relevant provisions. I am already aware of s.22 The Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002, any others? - The Registered Keeper is liable ... until the DVLA is notified of its disposal and receive an Acknowledgement Letter in confirmation. I believe there is no legal requirement to contact the DVLA after sending off my SORN however is there any legal requirement which stipulates that I am still liable until I receive an Acknowledgment Letter or is this the DVLA trying it on again. - I have noticed some posts say do not mention the Interpretations Act to them in your letter but also noticed that others have. Ideally I'd like them to drop the matter asap as I am looking to work abroad soon and will not be in the country. Will the reference of the Act help to bring the matter to an end? - I recall that if the DVLA refer the matter to a DCA then you can refuse to deal with them and refer it back to the DVLA and/or threaten harassment. Can someone elaborate or explain? I fully intend to defend this and have already stated to the DVLA that I am not willing to pay any outstanding amount so I would like to be a bit more aggressive in the next letter. Your answers would be helpful Thanks
  7. The paper counterpart driving licence is being axed on June 8 – and organisations are warning that drivers will need a ‘special code’ from the DVLA to hire a car or drive a company vehicle. Currently, penalty points are displayed on a driver’s counterpart licence, but from June 8 they’ll be recorded on a virtual record which can be accessed online, by phone or post. Should you need proof of your driving history, motorists will need to get a code from the DVLA to pass on to their employer or hire car company. This unique eight-digit code can be accessed online through the DVLA’s ‘share your licence’ service, or over the phone. But the code only lasts for three days – leading to criticism that drivers might be stranded abroad unable to hire a car if they’re unable to contact the DVLA or are simply unaware of the changes. http://www.admiral.com/newsletter/paperless-driving-licence.php?media=enewe&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=enewsletter https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence Paperless driving licence: DVLA changes explained as Brit holidaymakers anticipate car hire chaos DVLA driving licence paperless change could mean car chaos this summer
  8. I have lived at my property as a tenant for a little over a year. My landlord lives abroad, I rent through an agency and they left all their property here incl their TV so getting rid of it is not an option. I never got a TV licence for this property in the time I have lived here. Automatically generated letters threatening various actions have arrived. I am used to these as I never owned a TV in my life but previously I didn't need one either, so had nothing to worry about. However now that I do, I am worried. I live on the 1st floor in a block of flats and I personally know my ground floor neighbours who have been to my flat and would recall seeing a tv here. It would seem even though I have never spoken to one nor would I ever open the door to one, a TV licence person has been regularly coming to visit my property for the past few days. This has been around 7pm so a bit out of normal working hours ( I haven't a clue what normal working hours are for them!). I cannot think of another person who would cause such harassment so I am certain it must be them. However they have never during these visits left a note/letter to say they've been and will be coming again. I am pretty sure after declining to open the door to them today that they went knocking on other doors (which didn't open) and finally were talking to people downstairs. I asked my ground floor neighbours but they never told me a thing in regard to who it was (just stated it wasn't them knocking earlier when I was having a bath) and I have never discussed TV licence business with them. I am worried whether I can get away without paying for a licence if getting rid of this TV is not an option. Would a confirmation from my neighbours be enough for them to get a court order without talking to me? Would them obtaining my name through some other source also be enough proof of my identity? Would I if I were to as a last resource go on their website and sign up for a licence TODAY using my original details get in trouble even more because now they'd know who I am and would probably wonder why the property was unlicensed for the amount of time it was, so I could be prosecuted? Please help!
  9. Hello, sorry for posting in this section but I followed a music licence related-post I found through google. I am a PhD student and I am writing a publication on classical music. I'd like to show in my publication 4 musical fragments taken from 4 different musical pieces of 4 different authors, two of whom from the beginning of the twentieth century and the remaining from the mid-century. I would like to ask if I have to license the material and, if yes, how or where I can find more detailed information about. Luca
  10. Quick question I have to send in my card licence for a 3 pointer what is requirement to also send the paper part ( which is being phased out)? Many thanks
  11. Hey guys, Bit of background - like many, up to my eyeballs in debt: council tax debt, gas and electric, parking fine, couple of older debts, old house utilities also. Im a single parent to a 4 year old, have bipolar disorder and struggle to manage the balancing act with regards to payments. A week before christmas 2014 a TVL bloke knocked on the door, and came in to check why I didnt have a licence. I didnt have one due to not being able to afford paying it ontop of everything else. He asked me to turn the TV on and fiddle with the buttons etc, and unbeknown to me the sky box was plugged in - upon questioning my folks they had plugged it in whilst over last as my child had asked them, and they were not aware id decided not to have a licence or use the sky box (hindsight, should have removed it from the TV stand). He filled out a form, and said that I could pay it via a weekly payment card, and that should sign up for it now and if i dont use it cancel it later on. Read the usual stuff about needing to sign it, might be taken to court but out of his hands. Did what he asked to get him out of the house. I paid the first installment, and after that stopped because it wasnt needed and finances were just not allowing me to have the extra there to pay. Nothing until last week, when I received a court summons for the 14th May because Id admitted that at some point the TV had likely been used whilst my parents were over, hence why it was connected again - though I hadnt done it myself nor had it on, but assumed because it was connected that they'd turned it on. Ive filled the form out as pleading guilty via post, parents say it was on like id told the man it probably was, and have written down the outgoings etc. Its a million dollar question, but whats the likely outcome of this? I know there will be a fine of some sort, but will the court take financial circumstances into account? Sorry for the ramble, am stressing
  12. my driving licence got revoked and my ar siezed can my dad use his car insurance to get my car out as my driving licence at dvla waiting to up date ..?

Yesterday i receive a summons stating i had nn licence when the officer visited in october and i have to go to court. So confsued as to what i owe, why i owe it and what i do not??!!
  14. Driving licences will go paperless from June as the government continues to press ahead with plans to take more service online. For the past 17 years drivers have had to keep two parts of a driving licence: one a sheet of paper detailing their penalty points and endorsements, and the other a plastic ID card. The government has decided to phase out the paper element of the licence. "The reason for abolishing the counterpart is to reduce the burden on motorists,” a government spokesperson explained. "For most drivers there simply isn’t a need to have this information on a piece of paper when it is now freely and easily available online. It also saves drivers from paying £20 to replace a lost or damaged counterpart," they told the Plymouth Herald. When are the changes coming into effect? Earlier this year minister announced that all paper counterparts to licences would no longer be valid after 8th June this year. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) are also advising all drivers to destroy their paper counterparts. If my licence was issued before 1998 do I need to get a new licence? No. Your licence will still be valid and does not need to be replaced, until it is due for renewal. "The next time you need to update your name, address or renew your licence, you will be issued with a photocard only," a DVLA spokesperson told The Daily Telegraph. How will I check my driving record? All of your details – and the details of Britain’s approximately 30 million motorists – will be compiled on an online database that you will be able to access. The decision is part of the government’s “Red Tape Challenge”. The site, launched last year, is available here but those who wish can still request their records either by telephone or post. I’m a business owner and employer. How will these changes affect me? A similar site for employers, allowing them to check the driving details of possible employees, is planned for launch at some point in spring this year. A date for the launch has not yet been released.
  15. On 3rd September 2014, the House of Commons debated whether or not new legislation should be implemented to shut down energy companies who repeatedly breach the terms of their licence. It's quite a lengthy debate, but here's the full thing: http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201415/cmhansrd/cm140903/debtext/140903-0001.htm (scroll down to column 292) 214 voted yes to the proposal, 298 voted no. Naturally there are a lot of different, often conflicting, opinions throughout. Quite hard to summarise briefly but will try: ----------- It is proposed to the house that the belief is: Consumers have a right to be treated fairly Energy companies will meet their obligations and provide good services Should a breach occur, decisive action should be taken to put things right and prevent further breaches Since 2001, Ofgem has imposed at least 31 fines totalling at least £90 million. Despite this many energy companies face ongoing investigations. Whilst the energy regulator has power to revoke a licence in limited circumstances, it is powerless to do so where an energy company complies with a penalty notice and then commit further seperate breaches of their licence (i.e. the slate is wiped clean). Since 2010, average energy bills have risen by £300 (twice as fast as inflation, four times faster than wages). Some argument as to whether or not these increases are due to green energy initiatives. Noted that where wholesale costs rise, increases are quickly passed on to consumers. The reverse is not true. Suggested that lengthy enquiries (sometimes even spanning 18 months) don't actually acheive anything and instead, consumer protection law should be implemented to speed up the process. Argument that current financial penalties do not present enough of a deterrent to energy companies - merely "a cost of doing business". Also concerns that such fines eventually get passed on to the consumer anyway, in the form of higher prices. Proposal put forward that the regulator is granted new powers to revoke energy company licences when repeated instances of serious and deliberate breaches of licence conditions occur, especially when they harm the interest of consumers. Counter-argument that such a power is harmful to competition. If an energy company were to be closed down, how would those customers be redistributed to other suppliers? Whilst the secratary of state acknowledges there are far too many cases where energy companies let customers down (citing mis-selling, poor complaints handling, poor billing, unacceptable treatment) and acknowledges this has been going on for many years - he believes that revocation of a licence is the nuclear option and is instead harmful to the consumer as well as the company. The secratary of state believes the energy regulator already has the power it needs and that the right balance is currently attained. Npower and British Gas (Centrica) are specifically mentioned throughout for providing terrible service to customers for many years. Revealed that Npower, Scottish Power, E.ON and EDF energy refused to provide the full £50 reduction to customers on fixed price deals (result of government changes to green levies on energy bills announced December 2013). Although the government stated non-payment would be unacceptable, to date no action has been taken.
  16. I had to return my licence to the DVLA 7+ years ago for medical reasons. I would now like to reapply for my licence as I feel that I am no longer subject to the medical condition. I don't have the letter which confirmed the receipt of my licence by DVLA. I don't have record of my licence number. Also I don't recall that the suspension was a fixed period. Can anyone advise me what is the correct process for applying for a new licence?
  17. Increase in older drivers losing their licence on health grounds 3 hours ago An increasing number of people over the age of 70 are being stopped from driving for medical reasons. In the last year, the figure rose by a third to nearly 13,000. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-31617865
  18. I work security. that bits simple My boss who is the Facilities manager has just been told as they supervise security staff they must have a Non-front line licence. The lay out of the companies involved is below. the Building owner appointed a property management company. That company breaks into 2 sub companies One side property management, the other, people who work at the buildings like Facilities managers. the property side appoints its preferred security contractor who then supplies the officers My onsite boss, the Facilities manager who is a direct employee of the client company (not a contractor/agency) has been told they can no longer talk to me about building matters or security until they get a Non-front line licence. 19. Hi I have recently posted my paper licence and photocard licence back to the DVLA to be endorsed. This was done within the 28 days as stated on their letter. I then received a letter on Saturday morning to advise me that my liecnce has been revoked as they have not received my licence. I called the DVLA this morning to ask what was going on, only to be told by 2 different staff that because off a "back log" there is a 3 week delay. So therefore i possibly will not be able to drive now for approx 3 weeks. Please can some one advise me Thank you
  20. Hi, Complicated one. I have sleep apnoea which is proving hard to treat. I've had a bus pass for years and work for the council that issued it. It ran out end of last year. It was easy to get the first pass. I had never felt comfortable to drive and only ever had a few lessons. A colleague told me that if I couldn't drive I would be eligible for a pass and as managers were putting pressure on me to resume lessons I decided that a voluntary report of my illness to DVLa was the best thing. I'd had the provisional licence for years and didn't want to risk pressure to restart the lessons that I'd stopped due to illness. I got a letter instructing me to return my provisional licence and felt relieved. I filled in the form for the bus pass and that was it. Fast forward 3 years and several people in the council insist that a DVLA letter is the only way but I hit the first brick wall as I no longer have a licence to revoke. I wrote emails to my GP (although I have been told that a GP's letter is not sufficient) and the DVLA. DVLA responded that I must complete a form D1, enclose a medical form relating to sleep apnoea and a covering letter explaining that I needed this for a bus pass. I rushed it all into the post before Christmas and included a print of the email from DVLA. I got it all back today with a covering letter stating that it cannot be considered as I didn't include a passport sized photograph. I didn't pay attention to that bit as I am not applying for an actual licence I just need a letter stating that they won't give me a licence. This has delayed everything. Is it worth phoning DVLA and trying to reason with them? Do I really have to go and get a load of photos taken and wait again for the post to-ing and fro-ing. Ironically my GP wrote to me two weeks ago confirming that she would support my application. But the council won't accept it. Any advice on cutting the red tape appreciated. I travel a lot related to my work but not all of it is directly at work's request (small member funded professional association) so that bus pass was useful. Also I live in a very remote area and have to travel long distances to shop.
  21. Viewers who avoid the licence fee by only watching catch-up shows on iPlayer could have to pay up, the BBC’s director general warned yesterday. Lord Hall’s comments come amid growing concerns that younger viewers are using free catch-up services to dodge the £145.50 annual charge. He insisted that the licence fee has ‘plenty of life yet’ but admitted it could be changed. Currently, a loophole means viewers who only watch catch-up shows instead of on TV as they are broadcast do not have to pay the licence fee. 22. Nope....not the new Bond film... Around 6 years ago I sold my house and moved into a rented flat for a couple of months. I knew it would be temporary so didn't change the address on my licence. Well...after about 5-6 weeks in the rented place, I moved again. I thought that I had sent my licence off to have the address changed (I even remember going to get a form from the post office).. .fast forward a few years and I have a Christmas party for work. I was going to hire a car as the party is several hundred miles away, and so dug out my licence. The date on the front said that my photo was about to expire, so I went to log on to the DVLA website and register...but it wouldn't let me. I phoned up the DVLA and was told that in 2008, I was convicted of a motoring offence (presumably speeding on a camera - she could tell me that the conviction had expired but couldn't tell me what it was), and as I didn't respond, that my licence has been revoked. She's going to send me a form to fill in, but now I'm worried. Does anyone know what will happen next. I am currently unable to drive, which will cause trouble before too long with work etc...
  23. Hi. I have applied for first Provisional Driving licence as I wanted to get 125cc scooter, all I wanted was A1 category and than I was about to do CBT. Today I found it in my letter box and it was issued for category A and B (I take it that has happened because I`m over 30 years old?) Does it means that I can drive any bike right now without supervision? Also do I have to do CBT? I have never done one as this is my first licence, I`m about to get 125cc anyway to learn how to drive and that do an upgrade. If anyone could explain this to me please. Thanks
  24. Hi guys, Wondered if anyone has any info on this. I was offered door work last year through a friend but I lacked an SIA and I asked Ingeus about training for an SIA and they never got back to me. Fast forward to recently, well I've been offered work by my friend again this year but again I lack an SIA. However another guy who was on a course with me told me the job centre paid for his SIA (Or helped him fund it can't remember). Does anyone have any info about this? It's pretty much guaranteed work for me if I could get hold of a licence.
  25. Many drivers face a fine of £1,000 if they fail to update their photo-card driving licences, according to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. It started issuing photo-card licences 15 years ago and more than 30 million drivers now have one. These are usually valid for 10 years and there is a legal requirement for drivers to renew the photograph at the same time as they renew their licence. However, two million drivers have failed to do this. And this means they could be fined up to £1,000 should they be pulled over by the police, who then discover that the photo and licence is out of date. Even failing to notify the DVLA that you have changed address could be costly. Photo-card driving licences are set to become mandatory in 2015, when new paper licences are officially phased out. Link
