  1. A house back garden near to mine is being overrun by Japanese Knotweed. I have read many stories - many of them quite alarming - about the damage this plant can do and the effect it has on property valuations in areas where it is located. In view of this who is responsible for its control (I gather it is not illegal to grow it) and for remedying any damage it causes to neighbouring properties. It has been reported several times to the Environment Department of my local council who have, to date, seemed to have taken no action. Myself and several of my neighbours are becoming quite alarmed at the possible damage this pernicious weed can cause
  2. Did you keep a copy of the eBay listing? Also do you have a receipt from the courier to state collection was made? As your listing said 'collection only' and if you can prove collection then you should be demanding your money back from Paypal as you have met all the conditions of your sale.
  3. Does a receipt exist for the battery or for any of the work done? If yes what does it specify was done?
  4. The so called improvements - showers and the like are nothing to do with the French Government. It is charities that are providing much of the aid these desperate people are getting. A lot of the critics of these migrants should try putting themselves into their shoes and think about what they would do in similar situations. Also the French Government is probably doing much more to help then the British Government would if the situation was reversed. Can you imagine a British Government allowing French passport control in Dover - whilst we have this facility provided by the French in Calais. If the French withdrew their help the situation would be 100's of times worse.
  5. By the time they reach Calais they have no money left. If they did some of our more seedy entrepreneurs would leap at the chance to provide the means for them to cross the Channel. It is about time the sources of the whole problem were dealt with. But fat chance of that so the mass migrations of those that are desperate to escape the hell of civil wars, lawlessness and abject poverty will continue. Historians can look at the eventual fall of the Roman Empire in the West that was partially due to mass migrations from Central Asia. This problem is going to continue to worsen as current policy is similar to Canute ordering the tide to reverse itself.
  6. A few years ago I was in the same situation. My job was in Wandsworth - the one I found and I had to get there from High Wycombe for 9am. No help with fares or anything from the job centre. I ended up getting up at 5am and hitch hiking my way to work and back again in the evening. An absolute nightmare - I managed to get to the job on time but getting home again was a real problem and some days I never made it back - ended up sleeping rough at Hangars Lane a few times and then hitching back to work again the next day. In the end I managed to buy a cheap motor bike by taking out short term shylock loans which I prioritised to pay off as quickly as possible. I'm not saying this is the answer for you and certainly don't recommend this course of action - but it got me out of a real hole at the time. Desperate times meant desperate measures. To this day I still do not understand the reasoning behind the DHSS not giving out a soft loan to new successful job applicants in order for them to actually get to work - it is to their advantage to do so as I'm sure many will fail at this hurdle after getting employment then finding out it is almost impossible to get there.
  7. Latest update: https://www.change.org/p/wycombe-district-council-remove-the-plan-to-fine-homeless-people-in-the-area-100/u/11465800 Looks like the pressure and publicity has worked. Again many thanks to those Caggers who took the time out to show their concern and sign.
  8. No one denies that - but you cannot tar every Chinese person with the same brush. Just as you cannot make generalisations about any ethnicity or nationality that is disparaging.
  9. I did not call you a 'racist' - I implied the comment was and I still do: "The Chinese lie, cheat and sell the world dangerous junk. Let it happen." If I was Chinese I would take great exception to your comment as it implies ALL Chinese are so. If I was you I would delete your comment as well as mine. You are standing on very rocky ground with your very selective censorship.
  10. Rather a 'racist' generalisation against a country we do a great deal of business with and who have invested rather large sums of money in our economy. If the Chinese economy 'catches a cold' we are going to feel very poorly as a result.
  11. When was the Croydon case? Or was this just advise given by the Court? If the latter then I would be wary accepting it dependant on the person who gave the advice.
  12. Quick update from the local paper: http://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/news/13381339.Opposition_councillors_plan_protest_sleep_out_against_fining_homeless_people___100/ The petition has now passed the 4,000 mark. It may not seem a lot but for a 'local' issue it is a big number and is causing quite a stir locally - hence the local politicians who previously seemed unconcerned have started to jump on the bandwagon!
  13. There has been an update to the petition. It's worth a read as it makes it clearer why the petition is aimed at Wycombe District Council who despite all their protestations tend to be rather lukewarm in response to 'social' questions like homelessness. Anyway a big thank you to all Caggers who took a few seconds out to sign. If you want to see the update click on the link in the first posting.
  14. Very true - but Royal Mail try to make it as difficult and as time consuming as possible to make that claim. And sometimes they simply refuse to honour the enhanced insurance taken out. This is what they did with my USA claim. As I was a little unsure about the recipient I had actually photo copied the notes and the envelope and had copies of all the documentation relating to the payment sent. They only paid when Trading Standards contacted them. Very many never claim against Royal Mail in the first place when they mess up. Those that do mostly accept the book of stamps they get and those that go further are given a right run around. With each claim I have made I always seem to get a response from a different part of the UK - surely they should have one office dealing with such things not offices in every region that do not appear to specialise in losses in their area! The RM often want an itemised list of contents - what does one do in the case of a stamp collection or similar. I was asked once to make a list of every stamp in an Israeli collection I sold to someone in Germany which disappeared. I argued that was totally unreasonable particularly as they had copies of valuations for insurance purposes. They again only paid up after several months of hassle and after contact with their head office in Old Street in London. They need a kick up the backside and told in no uncertain manner that consumer regulations apply to them as well.l
  15. Thanks Silverfox. In the past I got conflicting advice from Trading Standards though, to be fair, the Post Office backed down when they realised I had contacted them. I think TS wrote to them - then they paid out my last claim for a Signed For and Insured service to the USA which contained £120 in banknotes. At first they adamantly refused stating the item had been delivered when it had not. They could not even prove it had left the UK! Recently I have been getting the 'must have been shoved through the letter box' treatment when I paid for a signature. Its just a royal pain in the backside having to constantly argue they have not provided a service I have paid for. Their services are not cheap and they have cut the compensation levels to the bone despite increasing prices.
  16. Since privatisation of RM is it now possible to sue them in the County Court? For example - refusing to pay out on lost mail which has a valid Certificate of Posting or Registration receipt (in the case of overseas mail). Or for not providing the service paid for - such as signature on delivery in the case of Recorded Delivery. I'm getting fed up with the regular run around with feeble excuses such as 'it must have been delivered as the postman would have shoved in through the letter box' for RD items and so on.
  17. Tell that to those poor sods at the bottom of the pile that lost out. There was the single library assistant sobbing on one of the TV programmes last night with two children who was significantly worse off - as an example. Osbourne gave away with one hand and significantly clawed back with the other. All he seemed to do is shift the onus from the Government by getting rid of tax credits, maintainance grants for students, over 70's TV licence etc etc. on to business to finance who don't lose out anyway because of cuts to things like corporation tax Those at the bottom simply stay there and many are significantly worse off.
  18. If the landlords registered address is the same as the rental property then that is where the court papers are served. It simply means you get judgement by default if he does not receive the papers. As he has property in the UK you can eventually go after that with a charging order. Someone must collect the rents etc. for him and they would have a contact address for the landlord so as to pass on any papers like these. If he has a UK bank account and you win go for a Garnishee order where the money will simply be taken out of that account. First issue that Summons and see what happens (after sending a letter before action under a certificate of posting).
  19. The petition link seems to be up and running again. So you don't have to scroll up here it is again: https://www.change.org/p/wycombe-district-council-remove-the-plan-to-fine-homeless-people-in-the-area-100?utm_source=action_alert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=340287&alert_id=ESerANrtjA_mbAlvMi5cDAP4YTr3wBMrnLHla60KfRt7%2BhxqZvtQbeJhI17vectQih11pm4dGJx Some of the comments following the Bucks Free Press article are worth a read. I also think that Lesley Clarke the local councilor who made the ill advised comments will rue the day she made them!
  20. The link to the petition seems to be down at the moment. This is the story from our local rag - The Bucks Free Press:- http://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/news/13334284.__100_fines_for_sleeping_rough_or_skateboarding_in_public_under_new_council_plans/?ref=mr&lp=8
  21. One of our local councilors response to the petition is quoted in full below: "Hello, You should be aware that NO ONE needs to sleep rough. Every opportunity is offered to these people, you say who are in dire straits. A number of them refuse to take advantage of services provided by the Council and Homeless Connection. It is unfair to other residents and users of the town to be intimidated by these people saying they are homeless when indeed there are the necessary facilities available. It is a known fact that these rough sleepers “earn” more from rough sleeping and begging than they would if they held down a full time job or indeed availed themselves of the various benefits. It would appear that rough sleepers in this instance is a lifestyle choice. Kind regards, Lesley Cllr. Mrs. Lesley Clarke OBE Buckinghamshire County Council (Abbey Division) Wycombe District Council (Abbey Ward)" It is typical of the response from the more well off members of society in the area - most of whom were born with a silver spoon in their mouths and don't give a tinkers cuss about the less well off members of society whose lives are a struggle. A big thank you to all those who have taken a few seconds out to sign the petition - very much appreciated. The more publicity this gets the more unlikely it will see light of day. Any one else contemplating signing please do as it will not take that many more for this to be fully discussed in a full council meeting.
  22. My local council - Wycombe District Council - is thinking of introducing a £100 fine which will impact on the homeless and destitute in the area. When I first read this news I thought it was a joke - but its not - they really are thinking of imposing this dreadful fine on people who can least afford anything! Guess who runs the Council - that wonderful and caring lot - the Tory party! Anyway if you are as outraged as I am perhaps you can take a minute to sign the petition against - link below:- https://www.change.org/p/wycombe-district-council-remove-the-plan-to-fine-homeless-people-in-the-area-100?utm_source=action_alert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=340287&alert_id=ESerANrtjA_mbAlvMi5cDAP4YTr3wBMrnLHla60KfRt7%2BhxqZvtQbeJhI17vectQih11pm4dGJx
  23. Noticed on one of the 24 hour news programmes that catch up programming is likely to need a TV licence as well. It seems Osbourne is giving and taking at the same time! The BBC are going to have to fund the free over 70's licence and in return anyone who watches catch up or any form of TV on non TV devices will pay the licence fee - whch incidentally is supposed to increase with inflation that has taken place over the last few years. So expect a hike in licence fees and more hounding to pay them if the catch up TV exemption is removed. Yet another 'tax' to clobber the less well off!
  24. How are you going to rate compensation? From what I comprehend the tape was erased and an apology given - so what loss have you suffered?
  25. The odds are not stacked against you - they are stacked against Parking Eye. They rely on people giving up and not challenging them. Unfortunately stating you had a migraine is not a defence. If you check a few cases on CAG you will see loads of cases which challenged Parking Eye and won with the arguments used. You have absolutely nothing to lose by defending yourself and I'm sure others much more knowlegeable than myself will be along to advise the correct course of action IF you are prepared to act rather than lie down and accept all the crap Parking Eye are throwing at you. You have to be more proactive not fatalistic.
