  3. A ban on smoking in cars comes into effect just as people are being urged to quit smoking for Stoptober. From 1 October 2015, it will be illegal to smoke in a car (or other vehicles) with anyone under 18 present. The law is changing to protect children and young people from the dangers of secondhand smoke. This is a very silly and unthought out law. A person can smoke in public at the age of 16, so what if a person of 16 or 17 in that car is a smoker and decides to light up. Does it mean the kids can smoke but the driver/parents can't or will they be breaking the law as well. These do-gooders are really thick some times.
  4. The cost of car and motorcycle theory tests will drop from £25 to £23 for tests taken from 1 October 2015. Theory test fees for other types of vehicle will also be reduced at the same time. Book tests at the new price The changes apply to theory tests taken from 1 October 2015. You can now book tests for this date onwards. You'll have to pay the old fee if you choose a test date before 1 October 2015. Find out more about the changes to theory test fees.
  5. Hi, firstly, my partner and I, along with our child have lived in this house since 2011 and in this street since 2006. Last year I applied for his secondary school place and was awarded the school of our choice, the school is 250 metres or so from our front door (one of the reasons that we moved to this street in 2006). Last week I received a letter from the LEA Admissions officer telling me that I had to prove where i lived in October last year, they want 5 pieces of paper, 2 of which are A V5 document , I dont own a car, my partner buy s and insures our cars, also, proof of receipt of CB and or Tax Credit, we receive neither of these. I cannot ring them until Monday, but this sounds very strange, part of the letter states that he is not necessarily doubting where I live or where our son lives, actually, that is precisely what it sounds like to me. Whilst we have nothing to hide and have not made a fraudulent application, I cannot provide them with something that I do not possess, does anyone have any advice please.
  6. Smoking in cars carrying children is set to become illegal in England late next year in the biggest crackdown on lighting up since the ban on smoking in public places in 2007. On Wednesday the government will lay the regulations in parliament needed to pave the way for the new restriction on smoking, which is likely to come into force on 1 October 2015. The measure will criminalise smoking by parents, carers or other adults in a car carrying anyone under 18. Enforcement officers would be able to issue a £50 fixed penalty notice both for smoking in the vehicle and failure to prevent smoking in the vehicle. If the case goes to court, the maximum fine will soar to £800 for someone caught smoking in a car carrying a child and £10,000 for a driver who fails to prevent someone else smoking. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2827571/Ban-smoking-cars-passed-law-weeks-come-force-October-2015.html

  9. Version 5 of the BPA Approved Operator Scheme Code of Practice has now been published. Among smaller changes and tweaks, this removes the requirement for 'charges' to reflect a Genuine Pre-Estimate of Loss (I think you'd still win with this as a basis for defence in court) and replaces it with the words "Commercially Justified". Which is a giant can of worms if you ask me. http://www.britishparking.co.uk/write/Documents/AOS_Code_of_Practice_October_2014_update_V5.pdf
  10. Hello, I just received my information back from the Royal Bank of Scotland today from a SAR I sent them end of June 2014. One of the requests I made was for my RBoS MasterCard Credit Cards. I received all of my credit card statements from 2004 but they only go as far back as October 2001. I had my credit card from the mid 1990's So I contacted the SAR Team at RBoS Cards Customer Services at Southend-On-Sea (0845 835 5470) I told them I only received my credit card statements but they only went as far back as October 2001. I was also told that they changed their system during that month and year and that was the reason why they only went back that far. They also said it was their Policy that they now no longer hold customer statements from before that time. I asked to see this Policy as I was not satisfied that they had looked further back, but I was told that they would not send me a copy of this policy. I also enquired about microfiche and any other system where they would hold older records but again I was told that ALL old records were put onto the new system or as much of it as can be... Of course I was not happy with their explanantion and I have no intention of being fobbed off that they no longer have a database that does not go further back from Oct 2001. I simply do not believe them that their records of credit card accounts and their statements now all start on October 2001 What can I do now, as I simply believe that I have been fobbed off? I still believe that they have my old pre October 2001 credit card statements. As they have not sent me any information to me showing me how and why my old records have been deleted or destroyed. I would be very appreciative if anyone can give me some guidance on this as I can see on the statements that I do have I was being smashed for "card protection plan" payments ranging from £17 to £27 plus, per month up to 2004! Thank you Wulfen40
  11. Halifax bank issued me with court papers and I was due to be in court on 1st October. I got the dates wrong and thought the hearing was for the 2nd October. At the hearing the judge granted full possession of my house on the 29th October. I renegoited my mortgage loan in July 2012 and extended the term to 18 years. In May, June and July I shortpaid my mortage payments due to unemployment. I have since paid the contractual monthly payments for the extended term loan. My monthly payment is £194 and I paid £ 634 in September to catch up. I really don't know what to do now to get this back into court. Any assistance would be greatful.
  12. Hi am after some help, my house is due for repossession on the 21st october by NRAM. I have arrears of just over £3400 and have been to court twice before but in September I lost my job which meant I didnt have the money to make my payment on time. I phoned NRAM who said this would be ok as long as I made the payment. I did make the payment but it was late and since then they have said ive broken the court order so they are going for possession of the house. I now have a date which is the 21st. I am now back in work. Since I last went to court I have made all payments on time just this one was late. Can some one help with my statement for court. Thanks
  13. http://www.housing.org.uk/policy/welfare-reform/universal-credit/direct-payments-to-tenants At present the claimant came opt for the HB to be paid direct to the Landlord. With the changes in October 2013 this will no longer be an option as HB will be paid direct to the claimant. It is then the claimants responsibility to pay the landlord the rent due. Rent is a priority payment
  14. I am on ESA and hope to start work sometime in the medium term. I was told there is Return to Work Credits and In Work Tax Credits but now I've seen that these are being stopped if on 1st October. It says "in readiness for Universal Credit". But the Universal Credit is only being started in October for new claimants. So what will happen to me if I go back to work after 1st October? I won't get Return to Work Credits or In Work Tax Credits because they've stopped. But I won't get any replacement help because I'm not a new claimant so won't get Universal Credit? Confused.

  16. Will at any point PPC's be able to demand the details of the driver from the registered keeper under the proposed changes regarding parking and private land. I know it was only a proposal a few months ago, but is anything going to change in favour of PPC's or clampers?
  17. Why we’re marching Austerity isn’t working Our country faces long-term economic problems. But our political leaders have failed to face up to them. For the next five years or more, unless policies change the economy will not grow, incomes will not rise, and there will be almost no new jobs. If the government keeps on with big spending cuts and austerity we face a lost decade. Even on their own terms government policies are failing. To close the deficit we need a healthy growing economy that generates tax income. But austerity has led to a vicious circle of decline. Instead of just letting the banks go back to business and bonuses as usual, we need policies that promote new and old industries. This new approach would create jobs, especially for young people. It would encourage companies to raise average pay, penalise big bonuses and invest in training and new industries. It would crack down on tax evasion by big companies and the super-rich. It would tackle the growing inequality between the super-rich and everyone else. Rather than deep, rapid spending cuts, we need to reverse our decline and build an economy that works for ordinary families. We need a future that works.
