  1. My good friend has been chased by numerous DCA's over the last 5 years for 2 credit card debts. One for £1,000 and the other for nearly £4,000. Due to the inefficiencies and disorganised nature of the DCA's we've managed to keep them all at bay and they've now all been quiet for the last 3 months. My friend is now wanting to move house but we're worried the DCA's could issue county court proceedings to her current address and she won't know about it until it's too late. Should we notify DCA's she's moving or just keep quiet? We're very conscious the debts will become SB in approximately 6 months so don't want to miss any correspondence this late in the game,
  2. Hi This is my first time of posting so please bear with me. My daughter, who lives in Cornwall, recently moved house. She is with EE for both her phone and broadband so rang them, giving enough notice, to say that she would be moving on the 28th March. No problem said EE. EE then contacted her to say that her new address didn't exist! As it is the presbytery of a church she found out that the Post Office had it listed under the church but said that they would separate the two. She contacted EE to tell the this and they came back to her to say that it would need a new line put in but that BT couldn't get there until 17th April. When she moved in, she found that the existing line was still active so contacted EE to tell them. They said BT didn't have an active line showing so she offered them the number but they said " it doesn't work like that" On 17th April the BT engineer didn't arrive. When my son-in law phoned BT they said that the engineer had been unable to find the house and that nobody had answered the phone. This might have been because EE ( in spite of having my daughter's mobile no had given BT the landline number which was still connected at her previous address!!! Another visit couldn't be booked until 20th May. I have had my daughter on the phone almost in tears. Yes BT have been and fitted a new line but when she contacted EE today and asked why they still had no broadband, their answer was basically "What broadband it wasn't ordered " She now has to wait until 19th June before her broadband goes live!! When she said that she was paying for a service that she wasn't getting, the person from EE said that she has been compensated. They gave her a £30 reduction on her bill but as she has been without a phone for 8 weeks and will be without broadband for 12 weeks (providing that EE actually get it live on the 19th June) this doesn't cover it. She has also been told that she now has to wait until the broadband goes live before she can apply to get her original number back. (She was told by EE that she would be able to take her number with her) Sorry to have gone on for so long but I can't believe EE's attitude and the fact that they have made the stress of moving even worse!!
  3. Hi My husband is step dad to my eldest boy and his biological dad has parental responsibility. We meaning my eldest son and my 6month old son and husband all live in Southport UK and my eldest sons dad lives in Bootle Liverpool but we as a family are looking at moving to Cumbernauld Scotland. Can my sons dad stop us if he has parental responsibility. Especially if we are saying we will bring him to him during school holidays and pick him up during school holidays this meaning he has no travel cost at all and would see him for 52 days during any of the scottish school holidays which is the equivalant of what he has him now he has him every saturday now. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!
  4. hi On 8th August i received a letter from the council re: waste disposed of contrary to enviromental protect act 1990 and clean neighbourhood and enviroment act 2005 It says on 31st july enforcement officers witnessed the driver throw a cigarette butt out of the DRIVERS window and drive away ... etc etc if you wish the council to consider any representations, ie you were not the driver on the date and time mentioned, before making your decision please can you ring me to arrange a mutually convenient time for you to visit the council offices within the next 7 days. On the 8th i rang the given name and number and left a message with my name and number and asked to be called back....nothing....I rang again on the 11th and left the same message......nothing Today i received a FPN for £50 the attached letter states that a female driver was witnessed throwing a cigarette butt out of the drivers window... to conclude this matter you have limited options, pay now or go to court. on the fpn it says issued via post and printed below says the officer who has issued this notice has or will be making additional notes, you are encouraged to read and indicate the accuracy of these notes. Can anyone tell me how i get to see these notes, if no response from my calls. The offence is clearly not accurate as 1. my drivers window does not open, the motor has gone and been removed and so has the internal gubbins because we tried to make a manual window opener ? but failed so the window has been glued permanantly shut. 2. we dont smoke in the car because the window does not open. I am at a loss how they say i threw a butt from the window, i categorically did not. Should i pay this or go to court are the only options, but why should i pay for something i did not do. any advice please

  7. I need some advice on a potential new living situation. My best friends boyfriend is due to be deployed to Afghanistan in the next couple of weeks and we've discussed her moving in with me for the period he's away (6-9 months). We've lived together before, and get on great, its more about me supporting her through a rough patch this year. I'm not asking her to pay anything towards the house, not the mortgage, bills or anything. Literally just her food, and I will monitor the bills, so if they go up, i might ask for a small amount in a few months time. My question is, do i have to notify anyone? My initial reaction would be the council for tax purposes, but she's not actually going to be classed as living there. All her post will still be directed to her parents, and her home address will still be listed as such. She already stays with me quite a lot, so just kind of making it a 6-9 month long sleepover almost. I want to do everything by the book, so if I have to notify anyone, i will. Any advice? Thanks.
  8. Help I purchased an electric recliner about 4 and a half years ago. About 6months ago I gave it to my mother as I had purchased another one. We moved it ourself from my house to my mothers. About 4 months ago it stopped working. I contacted the retailer and they informed me that since it was no longer in the house to which it was delivered they did not have to cover the guarantee. This was because it was possible that we damaged it in transit. Is this correct?
  9. If I decide to move to another part of the UK, will I still be able to claim Housing Benefit or will I have to explain why I have left my original town? I will be privately renting. Thanks for any advice.
  10. Hey all. The move from Rugby to York is happening and we should be moved within the month. Finding a job here is unlikely and York has so much to offer, so much more job opportunity etc I do have a worry. I did read that once signed to a specific Work Programme provider - it can not be changed. Here I'm with Sarina Russo and there is no Sarina Russo in York. According to this link, the only WP providers in York (north east) are Avanta and Ingeus. So, please dont tell me I will be MADE to commute a 6 hour round journey from York to Rugby because I wouldn't be allowed to change WP providers (or is the information I read about a no-change of providers incorrect?). Many thanks!
  11. Hi there an thank you for your help. I have been living in the UK for 4 years, I have a overseas passport. I am returning home (sunny southern hemisphere) in 3 weeks. I owe -£1650 overdraft to Loyds, on the same account I've gone into "unauthorised overdraft" by £421. I have lost my job, and the situation has got really bad hense I need to leave the UK. I dont see my situation improving for another year or so. I friend told me the "unauthorised overdraft" could be a criminal offense, I've been in "unauthorised overdraft" for almost a week now and I fear not paying it or not contacting the bank could be considered fraud or something. I have an account with a another bank that is about £600 in credit. Which is all the money I have. I have NO UK assets, `NO family in the UK and I have no plans to return. My last registered address was a shared flat, moved out about a month ago... My options are. a) pay the unautherised amount before I leave? (as to not incur even more charges) b) contact the bank to arrange a payment plan? c) Or just leave without contacting, enjoy my new life sunning under palm trees and swimming on the beach? My main concurn is the "unauthorsied overdraft" as I know its racking up charges, and aparently because I'm aware and have not contacted the bank I could be prosecuted for fraud??? I'm not proud of this situation, I've been on a very low income for the past few years, had cheap credit then I have lost my job. Extreem living costs, credit at the click of a button.. Leaving the UK in 3 weeks... Please advise, thank you.
  12. Hi We have got to move back to the UK in the next month or so, and I am wondering if anyone has had any experience of being chased for outstanding mobile contracts and for other stuff like Foxtel and Broadband Also I have a leased car via salary sacrificing and I am also going to have to break this lease, as anybody had experience of breaking a car lease? Never planning on living in Oz again (maybe return for an holiday at some point in the distant future) and I am well aware of that UK debts can't be chased in Oz. But it appears that going the other way there may will be a risk or at least it has never been proved one way or the other. I've got credit cards but intend to keep these going if possible as my job entails foreign travel and they are always handy to have TIA
  13. Hello I would be extremely grateful for any help or advice for the request below. My niece wants to move in with her mother who has a two bedroom flat. The flat is no longer council but owned by a housing company. Can anyone please tell me what my niece will be liable to pay when she becomes a tenant? When i say bills i don't mean, water, gas, electricity. Will payments have to be paid to the housing company? I forgot to mention my niece is in full time employment. Mods, sorry if posted in wrong forum. Thanks for help. Dan
  14. With all the testing involved with ATOS and now these PIPS run by the same company , I've been wondering if its worth while staying in the UK at all given the quality of life and what the alternatives are , is it actually still possible to move abroad on and still receive DLA ( I am interested in moving to Holland ) or has ATOS's take over of that too made it impossible ? And how does ATOS actually enforce their testing if your living there , as opposed here ? thanks, mike
  15. Hi Everyone! Im about to move to Australia on a temp 489 visa ,I owe around £40000 on c cards. Can anyone tell me if this will affect me applying for a permanent visa ? and also does anyone know what can happen if I do not pay the money back? cheers:|
  16. Hi, I was on Incapacity Benefit and moved to Contributory ESA for a year. I'm now moving to Income Related ESA but because I've gotten some money this year I will be a bit over the £6,000 savings rate to get the full amount. When I moved to Contributory ESA the amount I got was protected and I got the same as I had on Incapacity Benefit. Will I continue to get this rate on Income Related ESA even though I have some savings? By the way, even though I got about £20 more than i would normally on ESA because I was on this protected rate. All that actually happened is that they took that £20 off my Housing benefit because I was "getting too much". Thanks.
  17. Sorry if I have posted my concern at wrong place. I slipped in my bathtub and it got a crack. Couple of months ago landlord has to reseal the bathtub and his contractor sealed this crack as well. Now we are moving out after 2 years and 4 months, but the estate's agent saying that landlord has to replace it with new one and we have to pay for it. My questions are-: Do I have to really pay for it? If yes then... Do I have to pay full amount of a new shower bathtub and costs for fittings? Or Do I have to share? If I have to share what is the legal percentage of the cost should I pay? Thank You
  18. Hi All I am new to this website, but found some useful information and thought I would post my dilemma and hopefully get some advice. I am moving to the USA in 3 weeks time with my long term partner as his job has been relocated over there (for 3 years). I will be moving over on a visitor visa, therefore I won't be working (although I intend to look for work once I get there). My issue is this, I have debt of about £10,000 here in the UK that I have been paying off (I have never defaulted or had to freeze payments) for many years, but obviously I am about to be unemployed, with no idea when I will be working again and don't know what to do about paying my debts. Has anyone got any advice? Is it worth me simply picking up the phone and explaining my situation to my creditors? Unfortunately my partner cannot afford to pay to look after me and my debts!
  19. I was wondeing if someone could help. I moved to the Netherlands just over a year ago. I am disabled and so is my husband. My husbands support was cut ten per cent so we have been below minimum wage. Because of this and a language barrier, I would like to move back to the UK. Only I don't have an income or a home to go to. Would I be able to receive support? and how would that work bringing my husband?

  21. I had been on I.B / D.L.A for about 7 years. In july 2012 I filled out the required form and sent it off. In March of 2013 I received a telephone call from the Local job centre asking me to come in for interview. I asked why and she stated that I had been found on examination to be placed into Work Related Activities Group. I said but Ive not had any examination. In some confusion i agreed to come into the Job centre. In the job centre I asked when this examination had taken place. No answer. I then asked when I been informed. No answer. They then told me I could appeal against the decision on the grounds that I had not been told of the decision ( of the examination I had never had). I then checked with my G.P and the three consultants I am under that no requests for information concerning my medical conditions had been received from ATOS. Nothing had been requested. I took legal advice and appealed using exactly the same information that I had used in the form sent to them in July 2012. (I keep copies of all correspondence.) One week later I received a letter stating that they had received my letter of appeal. Six days later I received a letter stating that I had been moved into the support group. Am I the only person to go through the whole process and win without being examined by anybody.
  22. Hi I live in a Housing Association flat with m partner and two kids. I have recently lost my job and are now getting all the benefit. Our relation is not at hits best and I am thinking moving out but because i dont have a job what are my option? Thanks
  23. Finally got the dreaded letter saying I have to move from IB (as part of my Income Support) to ESA and all that entails. They say they're going to ring me in the next fortnight- anyone know why? I'm awful with phones, totally terrified they'll (easily) tie me in knots. Then they say I get the ESA50 form. Then the medical. I've spent the weekend trying to read on here about what to expect, but that just seems to mean chaos. I had a medical followed by a successful appeal in 2001 but it was six months of hell. I was on about £25 income support each week to survive on for over six months and it broke me mentally and physically. I am terrified of ending up there again. I'm also on DLA now - high rate care/low rate mobility. Iif they award me no points in the ESA medical, will they take the DLA away as well? I'm sure I've heard of them doing that to someone. I'm seeing my CPN to help me tomorrow because I'm already freaking out.I just don't want to end up as broken as the last medical fiasco left me. Ant help appreciated.
  24. Yes i know, sounds daft but my BT bill was going from a low initial cost through to nearly 70 quid a month due to the broadband charges for going over the 40gb allowance. with 2 kids doing homework, gaming, my wife and i working from home, 40gb was disappearing too quickly. Talk Talk offered to match our phone service and supply unlimited Broadband for £22 per month. I will have some of that i thought. so, here are the catalogue of errors....... 1 - got MAC code from BT, gave it to Talk Talk. Cant place the order without it. this was on 23rd May 2013 2 - had pack in the post, informing me of my contract details and go live date of 7th June 3 - monday 3rd june services from BT stopped. no outgoing calls or BB, but incoming calls only 4 - phone goes live on 7th june, but alas no internet or hub from talk talk. 5 - call Talk Talk who tell me that the MAC code was invalid. Could they not have told me this earlier? 6 - get BT to reissue the MAC code, same as before as its valid until june 22nd 7 - give to talk talk, turns out they had inputted it incorrectly. Assured all would be back on for 14th june 8 - 14th june, no internet. told that the order had been cancelled due to incorrect MAC code, and would have to place a new order. 9 - place new order, service wont go live until 26th june - including phone???? 10 - get email from BT, telling me about cancelling my services with them..... thought i already had?? 11 - ten minutes later get another email thanking me for my Broadband order, which will cost me £22 per month plus VAT for broadband only 12 - ring BT ask who placed the order, told that i did??? what? at 1am when the email came through?? 13 - challenged the order with BT, told i was correct, and infact i have never left BT as Talk Talk havent taken over the line yet? 14 - rung Talk Talk, gave the manager there a mouthful, his boss is ringing me tomorrow. what should i say? i really want the cheap deal, need the unlimited broadban but the customer service is a joke. left hand doesnt know what the right is doing. What do i do about BT? one minute they have cancelled service, then they placed an order in my name? am i liable for that contract? is this a [problem] to get me to fork out cancellation charges during a contract? any ideas people? i have missed some deadlines due to having no internet so i am down about £150 fees this month, should i ask talk talk to reimburse this? advice welcomed!
  25. Document Source: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/consultation-on-the-pip-assessment-moving-around-activity Consultation on the PIP assessment Moving around activity This Consultation closes on: 5th August 2013 From April 2013 Disability Living Allowance (DLA) began to be replaced for new claimants with a new benefit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP). Like DLA, PIP is intended to provide a contribution to the extra costs faced by people with disabilities and long-term health conditions. Whether individuals receive the benefit, and how much they receive, will be determined by an assessment of their needs. The PIP assessment has been designed to ensure that support is targeted at those individuals who face the greatest barriers to independent living. The criteria used in the assessment were developed in liaison with a group of independent experts in health, disability and social care and with extensive engagement with disabled people and their organisations. We have already carried out 2 consultations on the first two drafts of the assessment criteria, in 2011 and 2012. We have received feedback from some disabled people and their organisations saying that they are unhappy with the changes that have been made to the assessment criteria for the Moving around activity as a result of a previous consultation and want a further opportunity to have their views considered. We have therefore decided to carry out an additional consultation, seeking further views on the Moving around activity.
