  2. Hi, I applied for a provisional driving license in October 2016. To this day (Aug 2017) I am still waiting for it. Today DVLA told me it's still in a queue for a doctor to review but would not tell me how many months or years it would take for that review to happen. DVLA refused to tell me the average or approximate time it takes for a medical review to happen. No info whatsoever...just keep waiting... Is this normal? How long does this normally take? Is there a way I could get a provisional license and my lessons as well as the actual driving license abroad and then use that here? - Sorry, this might be a silly question, but I need options. I desperately need a driving license for work/shopping/doc appointments due to bad back, and it seems it's not possible to do it in the UK due to some internal DVLA backlogs. Thank you for any suggestions x
  3. Hi there. I'm having some issues trying to find the information I need. Here's my situation: I'm finally in a position where I would like to learn how to drive. Unfortunately, my provisional driver's licence is no longer valid since June of 2017. I'm applying for a new licence on the DVLA website but I am running into trouble. I am being asked to provide a passport (which I don't have and have never had). I need to provide 3 years of address history, but until about a year ago, I was homeless, and there's no option for this on the sign up page I was sofa surfing for a long time with no fixed abode, then became homeless after a relationship breakdown for a few months. Before that (I don't even remember the dates or have any documentation), I was living and working in a different city in the UK. I have my mother's address on the provisional card, but I've not lived there for a very long time. I was wondering if anybody knew anything about this? Many thanks for your time, L.
  4. Hello, This is my first time using this forum so be gentle I paid £34 online for my Provisional Licence as I have no current ID that I am able to use. I received an email on 03/02/17 to say that the payment has been successful but in order for the DVLA to complete my application, I have to send them some forms of ID such as Birth Certificate, bank letters etc. My problem is, it has been nearly one month and I have not received the letter/form which they have said I would get to be able to send a passport sized photo of myself and the forms of ID that they have requested. I have been on the GOV website where I initially filled in the Licence form so I didn't have to handwrite the form which I can get from the post office, but I am unable to find an email of any kind that I would be able to email the DVLA and see what has happened to my letter/form which they are suppose to be sending out to me. Could someone please point me in the right direction as I've never had to deal with the DVLA or anything like this before so I'm not certain on what to do, I seem to be going in circles trying to find information. Thank you in advance, Kind regards, Jamie.
  5. Hi, I made a complaint to GoSkippy yesterday as they cancelled mine and my partners joint insurance because we got the date wrong for when his provisional licence started; they gave 7 days notice of cancellation. The mistake was unintentional but GoSkippy refused to let me amend the policy and pay extra instead opting to cancel the policy leaving me having to answer that dreaded question every time I apply for insurance from now on; they of course managed to charge me silly money for the cancellation as they said the mistake was ours and also told me I could reapply for a policy after ours was cancelled!!! I have a cart-load of no claims on another policy but this cancellation will still affect me badly so I want redress as this was an innocent mistake. As an aside, my partner today had a call on my mobile from Eldon asking him about an accident he has never had; he is a learner and has never had an accident and he has never given my number as a contact so what gives? I'm really not happy as what they have done is going to affect me financially for all time. Apart from going to the ombudsman which is next on the list, any advice anyone? I've read online they are terrible at dealing with complaints. Thanx
  6. Hi, I've ordered a provisional license about 2 weeks ago and within the next 3-4 days after ordering it, I've received a letter in order to send back my passport, photo, signature etc. So I've sent it back on Friday and they've received it on Saturday morning (from what the royal mail tracking thingy says) and just wondering if anyone knows how long it would take them to send back my passport since I need it ASAP to get other things done as well. Also, if anyone has also sent their passport for them to verify, did you include an empty envelope for the special 1 day delivery with your address on it, for them to send back your passport? Did they even send back your documents in the envelope you've attached or did they send them back in a completely different one? Thanks
  7. I am a resident of UK. I came to UK from India 2 years ago in April 2012 on work Visa. I work for a car manufacturing company in UK. On 14th Dec 2014 I was driving my company car and caught speeding by a speed camera for exceeding 40MPH speed limit(Recorded Speed:51MPH). The police contacted my company to get the driver details as the car was registered on my company and they got my address from my company and sent me the “Notice of Intended Prosecution” I have my Indian Driving License; I got the International Driving Permit during my last visit to India in March 2014 which is Valid for a year from March 2014 to March 2015. I have a UK provisional license issued on 11th Nov 2014. Hence during the offence I have the UK provisional license and the international driving permit. I read from DVLA website that the Indian Driving license or the International Driving Permit is valid only for 1 year from the initial entry into UK. I have crossed 2 years as a resident in UK so I don’t know whether my International Driving Permit which I have validity till March 2015 is valid to drive in UK after I crossed my 1 year of stay. I drove the car without learners “L” plate (I believe the speed camera would have caught the picture of my car which is an evidence of not having “L” during driving) which I feel as another offense, also I came to know that the UK provisional license will overrule my International Driving Permit or Indian Driving License. In the NIP I was asked to provide my UK driving license details such as driver number and current number of points. I have given to choose from below options Part 1. If eligible I wish to be considered for a driver awareness course at a cost of £110 Part 1a. I wish to be considered for the fixed penalty procedure OR Part 1b. I would like the matter to be dealt with by way of a court hearing. Now I wanted to know the below queries please in filling and sending back the NIP, 1. Whether I can provide my International Driving Permit only and opt for a course if eligible or fixed penalty. I don’t want to give my UK provisional because they will raise another question whether I drove the car with an L plate on it which will be another offense. 2. If I am not giving the UK provisional then, a. I need to know whether they will enquire and find out my date of first entry in UK. b. I need to know whether there are chances that they may find out I have a UK provisional 3. If I give the UK provisional license along with the International Driving Permit (though it is overruled by UK provisional) and claim guilty then are there chances to punish me for speeding offense as well as driving without “L” plate offense. 4. On top of all the above, If I give the UK provisional then I need to know whether the police will contact my company and inform them that I was driving the company car with a provisional license which is an offense and got a speed fine as well. This may affect my job as my company may take action against me since I did something against law. I am bit nervous and worried as I am confused to take a right decision. I kindly request your opinions and suggestions on my above queries please which will be really helpful for me to take a decision and respond to the NIP. Thanks in advance.

  9. Hi. I have applied for first Provisional Driving licence as I wanted to get 125cc scooter, all I wanted was A1 category and than I was about to do CBT. Today I found it in my letter box and it was issued for category A and B (I take it that has happened because I`m over 30 years old?) Does it means that I can drive any bike right now without supervision? Also do I have to do CBT? I have never done one as this is my first licence, I`m about to get 125cc anyway to learn how to drive and that do an upgrade. If anyone could explain this to me please. Thanks
  10. My Brother in law, has just been caught driving on a provisional license. The circumstances behind it are. He owns a car, in which he practices driving with a qualified driver, it is fully taxed, mot'd and insured. He was asked by a disabled man, whom he has known for a long time if he could take him to a local shop to collect a washing machine as his had broken down, this man had held a driving license for a number of years and to his knowledge still held this license, it was only when they were stopped by the police the man told him that he surrendered his license under medical grounds a couple of years before. Obviously when questioned by the police, he explained that he did not have a full license and why he was driving, while sympathetic their hands were tied and they had to impound his car. My question is, is there any point in him trying to plead mitigating circumstances? I (and he) knows that ignorance to the law is no excuse, but he just presumed that because he had seen this gent driving daily since he was a child that he still had a full driving license. In reality all he wants to do is avoid the points on his license so he can continue to learn to drive and get his full license. (6 points for driving without insurance - insurance invalidated due to not having a qualified driver) Many thanks in advance for any advice.
  11. Hi, Just applied for my daughters first licence and the money I paid was not to DVLA but another web site: https://www.drivinglicence.uk.com/index.php So we paid £50 to have the form printed out ! The DVLA have returned her form asking for another £50. I have spoke to my credit card company asking to do a charge back but they don't hold out much luck. Has anyone managed to get their money back from these people? JJ
  12. I was stopped last year for driving without insurance. This was partially my fault, as the insurance company did not send a notice to when the insurance had expired and it was a matter of ONE day. My licence was revoked under the new drivers act and 6 points were given to me. I received my provisional with 6 points on there and have retaken my theory test and am now waiting to take my practical test. Now I did a dumb thing today and drove the vehicle alone. I was also speeding, doing 54mph in a 30mph zone (about 20 other drivers were also pulled over) by traffic police with radar guns. They did not question me on the licence part which I am glad about but they seized the vehicle again for having no insurance. Now here's the tricky part. I am the registered owner of the vehicle, but the insurance that the car had was under a family members name as I have not been driving it. How do I get the seized vehicle out of the impound and what will happen to me? I am due to retake my driving test in June, but I may postpone that until this is all sorted out. I know this is my fault and I acknowledge that and it was a really idiotic thing to do, but any help and input would be greatly appreciated.
