There clearly are people who do worry too much about everything...

And looking at the shambles that is now our welfare system have every good reason to imo.

This government is basically out to get certain sections of society and people shouldn't forget that wether they're currently effected or not. At the moment they seem successfully playing sections against each other with this 'scrounger'/striver' rubbish. But soon they will effect everyone, so one day the 'knock' will be for you.

I would guess that there are a LOT of people just like my mum who still struggle to use a transistor radio :-)

So htf are these people expected to use computers lol

Its a joke, I will just tell em I cant use a computer. Get sent on a course and I fail. Sent on another one, fail again.

So your right mate, how many courses would they send me or my mum on before they just gave up?

Some people cant drive, some cant use computers so to sanction them would be immoral.

They would just turn round one day and say... 'you're not trying hard enough - sanctioned!'

well from next year (January) UJM Is going to be mandatory as Jobseekers will have to sign up, if they don't then they could loose they benefits!!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/9757895/Jobless-to-be-remotely-monitored-by-Government.html#

...so, reading that, it will be mandatory to allow them access to your account? - or how else could they ...' see whether they are turning down viable opportunities.'

I signed to UJM about a month ago (it didn't work first 3 weeks) because I really do want a job and you have to click 'Apply' just to get the contact info for some jobs, but I've told the DWP they're not having access. I'll happily keep filling in the 'looking for work' booklet.

UJM will fail along with every other stupid idea IDS has come up with, everyone hates IDS and i doubt anyone will have any sympathy for him when his cosy little world falls apart around him :)

Agreed. I thought David Blunkett & James Purnell were sadists happy to stick in the boot, but dismal duncan is happy to dish out pain whilst living the life of riley.

At the local Jobcentre they have installed three PC's that can only connect to UJM. In order to use them you have to make a request at the reception and wait till you have the authorization. They are most likely bugged and spywared.

I have only seen a chav asking to use it, once he logged in he shouted he couldn't connect to Facebook and was escorted out.

Interesting reading that article.

I was in 5 days ago and told it wasn't mandatory to sign up to it and then told it would take some time before it goes live.

See what happens in the next few weeks with the media and if it has any more technical problems.

  • 3 weeks later...

I work with customers and staff at jobcentres in Merseyside, and I train staff on how to use the online Universal Jobmatch site. If anyone here would like some advice or has any questions around UJ, feel free to ask me if you don't feel like asking an adviser, an ill be able to help you anyway possible. I am not in charge of the site and not responsible for anything done to the site, I am aware of the problems with the site and I can bring up these problems with the people who are in charge of the site, so please don't complain to me lol I can help you around using the site, if you want to know anything!

Thank you...

I hope they do to, I spent all day today in the JCP helping staff and customers with UJ. So hopefully they ask me anything they don't feel like asking advisers in the JC.

I use the site myself testing for problems and such yet I can use the site no problem, yes bugs are there but nothing so bad they cannot use the site, and there is a lot misconceptions about the site and I will able to answer them here.

First of all, thanks for offering your help.

When somebody is asked to create a UJ account, do we have to tick the box where JC+ staff can login to your account and track your usage? There's also rumors going around that JC staff don't need your permission (tick the box) as they can access the UJ account via a single email that we provide. Would you know anything about this?

You are welcome.

You do not have to tick the box to give DWP access. If you do not tick the box, the DWP have no way to view your account.

But why would you not tick the box? Makes it easier for you to show an adviser what you have been doing to look for work, they can only view the account when you are present, they cannot change any of your details and can only see information that you provide. The information on the site is information they have already about you, like your address and email.

There is no disadvantage in giving the DWP access.

Is there not?

When I log into my account I see a lot of 'recommended' vacancies (based on my CV and it's title I assume). If DWP had access to my account and saw I hadn't applied for these 'recommended' vacancies I expect I would be sanctioned.

What I really don't like about UJM is the fact you have to click the 'Apply' button for some vacancies because the contact details are not in the job description. Doing this just fires off your CV and there is no option to add a letter of application when it specifically asks for one.(unless I've missed it.. and god knows I've looked)

My thoughts exactly. I don't want to give the DWP any opportunities to hang me despite my best endevours in finding work.
