Seeing my Dad have his 3rd heart attack. He's in a serious condition but stable.

My mum called very early this morning to say he was ill and I got there just as the paramedics arrived. At the hospital they had to work on him for a while and shocked his heart back into somewhere near normal after the other methods failed.

Not long got home as he's resting now but they are still trying to control his temp. and b.p.

Fingers crossed.

Having to miss seeing my grandaughter on her 2nd birthday :(

Aw Tills, that's really disappointing.. She'll just have to have two 2nd birthdays, like the Queen, so you can celebrate it 'officially' and break out the Voddy and Champoo, :)

I agree with Spammy. Positive thoughts coming from here too. It's not nice when parents have a health scare. My parents lives in the states and my Mum had a stroke in May (on my Dad's 60th birthday no less, talk about attention seeking). She is fine and should make full recover eventually, but it is scary and reminds you to be gratefull for the time you have. Even when they are winding you up

Seriously though, hope everything goes ok. :)

I have just opened the front door to go and put some rubbish in the bin and a cat has just legged it upstairs and is now cowering under my bed. It won't come out and I don't know whos cat it is. My dog used to be scared, it was a blessing when he went deaf. Next doors Yorkie has tranqs from the vet.

My cats aren't bothered, they sit in the window and watch them.

Every year they talk about banning them and we sign petitions but nothing ever happens.

Thanks for all the messages of support. It may just be a few words but it does mean a lot to me knowing that people have taken up their time to reply and be so kind despite their own troubles.

They released my Dad from hospital this evening. That may seem like good news but unfortunately it's not. A scan on his heart has shown that there is nothing that can be done for him and he is very ill.

He's walking and talking but tired, very pale and scared. To think on Wednesday he was 18 ft up a ladder and cleaning out the gutter on his house but the silly idiot ignored all the warning signs and put it down to pulling a muscle and overdoing things. My Mom doesn't understand why they have let him out when he is clearly so ill and seems to think it's a sign he'll improve.

My dad had a pacemaker fitted this year (74 years of age). He has had 8 heart attacks and a cardiac arrest since 1981. What happened this time was he was fainting and feeling dizzy. He put it down to something trivial as well, and it was 2 weeks later that I forced him to go to the GP.

The GP took one look at him and phoned for an ambulance to take him to A&E. I gets a phone call asking me to get there as quick as possible as they didn't think he was going to make it. His blood pressure was something like 80 over 35. They couldn't believe that he actually managed to actually walk to the doctors.

They kept him in for 2 weeks before using a camera down his throat to look at the back of his heart. They then decided to fit a pacemaker. They transferred him to the heart hospital in our city (Broadgreen) that night and fitted the pacemaker the next morning. I couldn't believe it but they let him out 24 hours later. He looked a million dollars. I was surprised that they decided to do something for him like that at his age, because I believe that some doctors would say that there is nothing they can do.

I may be wrong but it is in my belief that it depends on where you are getting treated and which doctors you see that decide your fate. I think if my dad was elsewhere, they may not have done anything. Especially with his past health record. Anyway, he is now able to go about his everyday tasks (although he does get slightly tired). He even goes out for a drink with me once or twice a week, and I no longer have to carry him home:razz:.

A big thank you from me to all staff, doctors and surgeons at Aintree Hospitals and Broadgreen Liverpool.

My sympathy to anyone suffering from heart problems and those trying to cope with it.

Ricky Tomlinson started a campaign about 2/3 years ago to highlight the symptons as so many people do not recognise them. I haven't heard anything about him for a while so don't know if its ongoing, but it is something that does need drumming into people (especially men who don't like to bother the doctor).

I speak from experience as I lost my younger brother (age 41) due to a heart attack. From what we could piece together afterwards, he'd had a "warning" but didn't recognise the symptons and assumed it was something to do with his migraines. He probably didn't tell mum as he thought she overreacted to illness. It was a terrible shock and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

My own brother who is 47(next week hehehe) suffered with migraines for years, then and Christmas last year he saw his doctor due to being a bit wheezy, doc took one look at him and put him in to hospital where it turns out he had a faulty Aortic heart valve, that was so badly damaged he couldnt believe my bro had been playing squash the week before. He was operated on with 4 weeks, but he had to go private, as there was a 6 month NHS waiting list up here at the time!!!!!

Then there is the own problem with my son(he is home for the weekend but goes back on Monday), and the closing of the Specialist Dermatology ward for no reason. It is actually a part-time ward that closes at the weekend, so any vital treatments are interupted.

Ive just emailed the head of NHS here in Grampian asking what the problem with the Ward is, so hopefully I will get somewhere. I also have a friend who works for Richard Lochead MSP, who was given a copy of the email, and that email has made its way round the SNP pary conference in Inverness;)

It is very sad the NHS can't keep up. And so is the fact that we have to go private when we've all paid into the NHS for years. I was lucky enough to have BUPA with my job for a small op I had but when my mum was in hospital I was there every day for as long as they'd let me stay. I just didn't trust anyone else to look after her properly. I realise the majority of nurses are great but there's always the chance you'll get the odd one that isn't.

Heard today that my niece has just bought a £1,000 TV from Brighthouse ... despite already having a 40" inch TV less than a year old. They had their car snatched back last week because they couldn't keep up the payments as well.

Just don't understand how some people think....

I think you are right that it's a postcode lottery. The hospital my dad was treated at is almost bottom of the league table and so poor that the maternity unit will have to close because of their failures.

I wish I could say he was improving but he looked worse today. Still managed a smile and a joke though but can barely walk. Like it or not he's going for a ride tomorrow and a thorough examination as I'm not about to give up on him yet when he has so much left to give.

Thank you all so much for your words of wisdom and kindness. And convincing me that there are other options to explore regardless.

I found my FIL collapsed earlier this year and thought we had lost him . He was taken to the local NHS hospital and they proceeded to fit a pacemaker and discharge him after a few days .

He is 85 and has recovered well . Still enjoying a daily bet and a daily whisky or three.

Insist that the doctors consider all options for your Dad. Wishing your family well .
