If you went through a broker, then the total price is made up of the insurance policy fee plus a %age for the broker. If you cancel then the total brokerage fee is payable PLUS a %age of the insurance policy which will be far greater than simply calculating the weeks cost pro rata. So lets say for example the policy cost £400 and the broker got another £100 on top. your total price was £500 which is the price you were quoted and accepted. Now you want to cancel after 5 weeks, but the insurance company can charge say for 3 months (as this is their minimum cover period). You therefore owe them £400/4 = £100 plus you have to pay the full £100 broker fee and maybe on top of that you are charged £35 cancellation fee. So your total charge for the 5 weeks cover would be £235! which to you appears to be nearly 50% of the total yearly cover. I would look again at trying to pay the uplift for the new car and move the policy next year when you are due to renew.

New Congestion Charge Consultation
crem replied to adamr0we's topic in Local Authority Parking and Traffic Offences
You could think of it as a loss if it isn't generating the expected income. Perhaps a better phrase would be "a shortfall against anticipated revenue". -
What part of the V5 did you give to the dealer? You should have given them most of the document and only retained the yellow (transferring to motor trade section 9). This should have been signed by you both and YOU have the responsibility of sending it to the DVLA.

There is nothing particularly unusual about your situation, so in essence is not a problem for the insurance company. I used to run and insurer several driving school cars which had me as the RK and policy held at my address, but for each car I also had to declare the main driver (the instructor) and the location the car was NORMALLY parked. My quote was based on the actual parking location risk factor rather then my house. Declare the facts to your insurance company as you have stared here and the quote will be based on those correct details. You would like to think the quote would be lower as the car is in secure navy protection, but remembering we are talking insurance companies here, it'll proberly go up coz they'll build in the hyperthetical possibility that the navy yard has a 1 in a zillion chance of being nuked if we go to war with aliens!!!

Young women warned over December car insurance rise
crem replied to Conniff's topic in General Motoring Issues
The gender change is an EU ruling, not a UK government one I don't think you can blaim them for this one Conniff. You are of course corret about the continuous insurance fiasco -
I have never heard of this offence being referred to as an "absolute" and in my opinion to use such a reference is "absolutely" wrong. The fact that you state you have worked for the darkside is unsurprising as councils frequently seem to think a YBJ offence is absolute which is why they are wrong so often.

summons for driving uninsured, at court TOMORROW
crem replied to sorrylittlelot's topic in Speeding and Motoring Offences
"6" is the magic number. i.e. if any new points make the total on your licence 6 or over, the new drivers act is automatically invoked. It is possible, therefore, to have more than 6 on your licence and not to be revoked if the points were present prior to taking your driving test. However, should you receive a single extra point in the 2 years following your test, your licence will immediately be revoked and you will have to pass your tests again.- 43 replies

I am being forced to buy a used car !
crem replied to minus-millions's topic in General Motoring Issues
Possibly not, but should they choose to have a "quiet word" with the seller at this point, it may help expediate the refund -

I can't picture this scenario in my head so am struggling to understand the who/why/how/where and when that led to you getting stuck in the box -
Box Junction in London
crem replied to MaisyMouse's topic in Local Authority Parking and Traffic Offences
If your exit was clear, why had you stopped in the box? This generally only occurs when waiting to execute a right hand turn at a YBJ light system, and although your exit is clear you are prevented from reaching it by oncoming traffic. Was this the case for you? -
Those STICKY (hard to remove) window stickers
crem replied to Rab's topic in Private Land Parking Enforcement
It is an offence to place stickers of any kind on the windscreen as this makes the car undrivable in a safe manner. If they place stickers on the window, it should be on the driver's or passenger's side window as these can easily be wound down to allow the car to drive safely. -
Private parking fine + Car Hire company Admin Fees
crem replied to Zoukan's topic in Private Land Parking Enforcement
Yes, as you had no need, or agreement, for them to take any action on your behalf regarding spureous invoices, then any such action is at their own valition and cost. Demand a refund of the admin.- 5 replies

Private parking fine + Car Hire company Admin Fees
crem replied to Zoukan's topic in Private Land Parking Enforcement
1 It is not a FINE and never was! 2 The hire company have no right or agreement to process INVOICES on your behalf (which is what it really is) 3 As they should never have paid or processed the INVOICE, it follows they cannot charge an ADMIN fee. 4 DEMAND a refund FROM THE CAR HIRE Co of the entire amount paid and charged to your card or proceed with a county court claim using MCOL- 5 replies

The general consensus on the forum tends to be that extended warranties aren't worth the paper they are printed on.

Yes, you can still swap insurers. No, you can't avoid telling the new insurer of the bump. (which means they will change the quote anyway)

Car towed - Wandsworth council. help please!
crem replied to cjsc's topic in Local Authority Parking and Traffic Offences
I believe there is some possible errors made by the council regarding making you pay for the PCN as well and not giving you the oportunity to challenge it (whether you think it's valid or not). Other more experienced CAGgers know more about this than me but I'm not sure any of them ar posting currently since the forum was changed to NMAG which is a shame for all of us -
Remember the MOT should have been "pre-booked" before you set off. So please make sure you confirm with the garage that they were expecting you and had your bike in their records as expected in case anyone checks.

How would you expect him to calculate his pass rate? Should it be how many pass first time (I would quote 40% using my figures) Should it be how many of his pupils who go to test eventually pass, with multiple tests. (I would quote 80% using my figures). Should it include pupils that never actually reach test standard but give up learning to drive (even I can't give a figure for mine and I use an extensive computer spreadsheet to store my lessons/pupils). If he is ot using a computerised system, trying to calculate this type of information by hand would be difficult and time consuming. My point being, like many statistic based information, depending how you look at the figures, they can indicate answers that are poles apart. As liverbird has said though, the really important consideration is how well your daughter gets on with the instructor, providing of course that he is delivering sound learning.

It would be helpful if you could give us some of the key financial figures to help us work the maths out with you, but based on the few figures you give here is a guestimate: If you have paid 4,950 in 18 months thats about 275 per month 48 months at 275 is 13,200 was there any deposit paid? If not, total payable is 13,200 and therefore the VT figure is 6,600 minus amount paid (4,950) leaves 1,650 to pay to VT. Any value the finance co. get after you hand it back is irrelavent to the figures and IS NOT deductable from your VT figure. The "real" figures from your HP agreement will help get a more accurate figure for you.

I don't think it is worrying at all that members are expressing a concern that the advise that they freely give on this site may be being used to promote a financially driven (profit making?) associate site.
-
but what no one from the site team seems to have touched on at all, is what is CAG supposed to be benefitting from with this link up? Have CAG received funds? (been bought out?) or what? If there is no financial or reputational benefit to CAG, then the association seems pointless.

and how do you think they would manage to fill their coffers with ill-gotten fines if they made it that easy for the motorist CCMRob??
