  1. Thank you both - I now feel happy to forget the 'pass' rate'. Not block booking lessons is a good point - we will take it week by week.
  2. Thanks for replying - sorry that I wasn't very clear in my post. I think that I was just surprised that he couldn't/wouldn't give me any indication of how successful he is at teaching. My initial conclusion was that he was not a very competent instructor and I wondered if anyone here could have shed light on whether expecting details of pass rates was unreasonable. Anyway - my daughter was happy with her first lesson and the next session has been booked. It seems that he is a new instructor with just 5 months experience. That hasn't ruled him out for future lessons though I will play it by ear.
  3. Having purchased 4 hours tuition for my daughter from Groupon, her instructor arrived today for her first, 2 hour lesson. I discussed future hourly rates with him etc and asked what his pass rate was. I was surprised to hear that he doesn't have one... he said that he only puts pupils in for a test 'when they are test-ready' but that 'some fail because of silly mistakes' Some fail the 2nd time too. For that reason he doesn't keep pass rate reco.rds. (having failed twice myself for silly mistakes I can appreciate that that does happen) He seemed pleasant enough, seemed to have good record keeping booklets for daughter and himself but again shrugged his shoulders over the pass rate query. I have just realised that I didn't ask how long he has been an instructor - maybe he is new at it. Other than by personal reference this is the only way that I felt I could gauge his competence, of course I suppose he could just have lied and said his pass rate was first class!. Any comments or suggestions please. Thank you
  4. I would also take screen shots of all of the listing on ebay - if it hasn't already been taken down. Your husband should be shown as the buyer on there unless the deal was concluded outside of ebay
