  1. My daughter usually puts her details through comparethemarket each year just to check. Last year she ended up staying with her existing company, but as a new customer through the website coz it was ££££s cheaper doing it that way. She even told them she was doing this and they still couldn't make her renewal price match the price THEY WERE QUOTING on the comparethemarket website! As you say, you think they would be offering you the best price to stay with them but that's clearly not the case.
  2. as with many things when teaching people to drive, there is often no "official answer" as such, this being one of them. Whilst that may be something some instructors might advise, I certainly for one, wouldn't put it anything like that!
  3. well we have always tried to teach YBJ as best we can renegadeimp, so not sure why you think that is a "taught now" comment, although equally, I'm not sure where you have found this apparent exemption that you can enter for an emergency vehicle? I think you would find if you consulted the emergency services on such a policy, they would be totally evasive of giving a direct answer. You'll get some waffle about "the general public are not expected to contravene any road trafficc sign or speed limit" and "the emergency vehicle driver is highly trained to negotiate traffic" Equally, if you apply this practice (such as refusing to move a few feet over the white line at a traffic light on red) they can be quite forceful at "encouraging" you to do so!!
  4. There are no guarantees of getting your money back through a small claims court I am afraid. If the defendant has assetts that you know about, then you are more likely to be successful, because when he fails to pay you after 28 days you can escalate it to the court officer (bailiffs). If he doesn't have any assetts you can seize, then it's much more of a lottery.
  5. yep I've bought a fair number of new cars and know the dealer is always doing "double maths" so to speak, offsetting one bit against another. As you say, as a customer what you must remain focused on is the "bottom line". i.e. is the deal you are getting and what you're are going pay per month the deal you were after. Again, another big part of the dealer's profit can be his monthly bonuses. I have had one of my dealers telephone me on 30th of the month offering me a "good" deal if I can take a car out of his showroom by 31st of the month. Now I knew, and he was honest enough to tell me anyway, that any loss of profit he was offering me on the new car was dwarfed by the kick-back he would be due for meeting his targets. I got a decent deal on the car, and he got his bonus. Both happy
  6. ... so no actual "loss" on this bit of the deal either as the I presume the dealer only offered the OP what he was offered to move it on (unless he was trying to double profiteer by offering the OP less than he was moving it on for) and the underwriting dealer was probibly more expecting the car NOT to turn up than would.
  7. I really don't see where you're going with this one lamma. Your posts are generally very informative, but on this one you just seem to be on a different planet (well country anyway)
  8. I was under teh impression that the insurer had to notify you prior to the cancellation so he may be able to claim mitigation circumstances.
  9. drink driving is a mandotory 12 month ban. It can be longer and often is ironically if you plead not guilty and have a brief in tow!
  10. So they think they can impose PENALTY charges do they!! Don't worry, they are going nowhere near a court with that sign!
  11. deal was done on the 19th of the month, cancelled on the 20th. I don't think the dealer would be able to claim this one deal screwed his monthly target. Indeed, he wouldn't even know yet that he has missed it. That would mean he has attempted to sell a vehicle that he didn't even own yet. I doubt that would be a viable claim either.

  13. There is no reason to decline mediation as it can do you no harm, but may make you look like a reasonable persontrying to resolve the problem amicably. Taking mediation does not change the court date already set and you are in no way obliged to agree anything offered at mediation. Remember mediation only takes place if both parties agree to it and it sounds like the defendant probably won't anyway. Mediation is usually by a 3-way phone call with the mediator ringing you, then ringing the other party, then ringing you back etc so you are not speaking direct with the defendant at all. You don't have to agree to anything offered in the mediation phone call if it doesn't suit you and none of the details discussed/offered are reported back to the court. they are simply informed that "mediation was unsuccessful". Your court date still stands..
  14. don't think that is the video you intended to link us to sailor sam
  15. no harm in pre-notifying CAB I think as, although you are just sending the formal letter to the dealer, he has already intimated that he will reject your claim.
  16. I remember trying to change a dashboard light on a cavalier once and was fairly convinced when designing the car they had started with this bulb,, then built the rest of the car around it! Still got it done in the end and to be fair , you would expect a dash bulb to be less accessable than a headlight which you would anticipate failing from time to time.

    SORN Late penalty

looks like my para-phrasing from memory was near enough.
  18. I find it astounding that you fail to understand or accept that some slides, given the right conditions, are neither caused by the driver nor able to be stopped by the driver. On a slope or hill, simply making any attempt to move the car may be too much, but until you move the car you don't know! I have seen cars slide sideways at a snails pace and even seen them side backwards when a forward motion up a slope was intended. I am not necessarily saying the OPs bump was such a case, but you total non-acceptance that such slides can take place is somewhat surprising.

    SORN Late penalty

Might have been worth doing a bit of background digging on the SORN rules coz I seem to remember when they were discussing them in parliment that they went to great pains to stipulate that "this legislation is not designed to trap the "innocent" motorist that forgets, but the persistant non-payer" or words to that effect. You could then have included this reference within your petition. Clearly, the SORN rules generate the vast majority of their income from exactly the people they said they wouldn't hit!!
  20. Dangerdoc hasn't been online since June last year so I wouldn't be hopeful for any response before Monday.
  21. ..or should have been typed as "facing WITH the flow of traffic" Either way, you are correct of course helio, the whole point of the rear reflectors is to catch the light from travelling car's headlights so they can see your car!
  22. I have never known the speed safety van (sic) work in tandem with police vehicles. As far as I knew these vans always just zapped you, then you get a FPN next week. Why would they need the offending vehicle to be stopped at the time?
  23. Total bull about court. I have done several as a claimant. Basically you file a claim; the court notifies the defendant and waits for a defence (28 days); court sends you the defence (another 28 days); claimant accepts, declines or part accepts the defence (another 28 days); court notifies defendant of reply and sets a court date (maybe 6 or 8 weeks hence) usually also recommending mediation. Typically this will all take 4 to 6 months.
