Hi Jenny,

You can indeed do it easily yourself and the claims companies will only do what you can do ie write the letters and then refer it to the FOS. Have a look around this site first and read other peoples experiences. You can get letters from the templates on this site. Write the first letter saying that you feel that you have been missold ppi and for what reason. You will almost definitely get a response that you arent getting anything. Once you have the companies final response you can take it to the Financial Ombudsman service you can download a form from their website and they will decide whether it has been missold. Currently I think around 90% of cases are upheld by the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman do take a long time to deal with complaints because they are inundated with them but you will get satisfaction once you start to see results.

So get reading and go for it. Good luck.

Hello, Please excuse my ignorance on these matters... I need all your expert help and opinions. I have been approached by two different companies wanting to 'help' me to reclaim a PPI and other charges relating to credit cards no longer used. Both companies required payments upfront. A posting on this forum suggests I can do it myself - can anyone help me in the right direction? I've been really ill and off work for months and when these companies ring it seems a good idea to let someone else do the work :? as I'm so shattered with it all. Many thanks for your time..........

you need to start your own thread p'haps one for each card companies name if there are a few.

general help can be gained from the homepage under FAQ.

Hi Jenny. My case is proof that it's quite easy to claim back. Use the templates and read around the issues on here. Money Saving Expert is really good too.

You don't need to pay any company to do your work unless you want them to and are happy to pay a fee like you say. For me, I claimed £800 back and one letter and one phone did it, as they'd not 'sold' the policy properly (which is the case for many PPI's sold until recently.

Tip for you ---- If you've been mis-sold PPI, word the letter correctly, using one of the CAG or MSE templates, the banks / finance companies know they're bang to rights. If they don't settle with you, the ombudsman can impose compensation on them.

Think £££'s ;) Good luck. The experts on here are very good as well!

Please do not PM me for advice as it may be sometime before I can respond.

Keep at them. Do not give way and do not accept all they tell you, they will delay and stall for as long as they can to prevent repaying you your mis-sold PPI.

today i rec'd a PPI offer from the All & Leic for around £1400 but they want to offset it against my outstanding debt with them. Can they do this considering the insurance policy is with an insurance company rather than the A & L? Im gonna reject it anyway because the PPI signature was forged and the A & L know it so it's more a criminal offence rather than a civil breach of the CCA 1974 ie fraud and misrepresentation

yes they can off set but only ARREARS.

pers if you are happy this offer is correct [regardless of the outstanding issue you have & that typically A&L don't often get it wrong ] i'd accept it. then chase the other issue, they are still putting you back to where you were should the PPI not have been taken

as you have an outstanding issue with the fraud etc...i think these posts are better suited to be on your org thread, then post back on successes when you actually get the money.

* * * BATTLE WON * * *

Logged onto my account I noticed a credit to my account of £1,485 from 1 Church Hill Place and an entry beside it We are sorry

Working out the figures indicate that its settlement of my Barclay Loan PPI complaint (about £30 more than I actually calculated).

Took about a year & involvement of the FOS to resolve, during which time the bank 'changed' the complaint reference number three times & kept telling me that it was still under investigation even after the FOS told 'um to pay up.

Thanks for all the support, special thanks to PF for his help and the link he gave me (using that in my final letter seems to have had the desired effect in getting them to cough up).

I won my PPI case for a full refund from the Alliance & Leicester but rejected the offer of £1400 as the policy was triggered by a forged signature. Sent evidence again back to A & L and the FOS.

will update when news available

fingers crossed the alleged fraud taints the whole agreement and looking for the contract to be set-aside

I have been absent due to family health issues. Well done to all the successes. Nice to see some positive results coming in. I will try and catch up on the PPI forum but it will take some time. Keep up with the fight.
