my job searching seems slow this week, covering everything on my agreement but so far only found 3 jobs to apply for this week

 

does not sound good with the jobs down where u live.

 

i just applied for customer service representative at a place i know where i wont get a job but it just adds to my ujm jobs the job centre wont complain

 

i have applied for think 6 jobs this week so far a get 2 everyday.

 

been told customer service representative jobs are like self employed but what a load of bull crap ha as it would tell me straight away on the info if the job was self employed or not.

 

plus am not sure this job "part time" would be a self employed one.

 

there a retail job it came on to the job centre site on the 18 and everyday it date has changed now its on 21st it was put on something not right about that i wont be putting my cv forward for that one.

So the "employer" sets the work hours and shifts - That alone would indicate that it is not s/e and therefore subject to NMW and the rest of the legislation that goes with it.

 

Also betting that you'd be expected to wear a uniform and project the company image - That would certainly make you an employee.

ye so it is not a self employed job and is fine ,

 

they usually tell u on the job page if it is self employed or not.

Well, a lot of your retail skills are also very applicable to bar work. You need to make sure the employee can see this straight away.

 

Able to get on well with people

Cash handling

Stocking shelves

Working to set hours

Flexible attitude, etc

 

Emphasise the 'getting on well with customers' bit as I think that's half the battle with bar staff. Doesn't matter how skilled you are, if you annoy the customers you won't last long in the job. Put something like 'I have extensive retail experience skills which would be directly transferable to bar work; the ability to get on well with customers, handle cash accurately, maintain stock levels and I have a flexible attitude' Advertise yourself!

 

Might pay to say you have a good sense of humour too, as nobody wants miserable people serving them. I worked in a bar for a few weeks once many years ago and I'd say that being able to get on with the customers is by far the most important thing.

does that mean just serving food and drinks? or is it helping with the cooking etc?

It means cleaning up brats mess for sh*t pay and being treated like a piece of cr*p on the bottom of your shoe

have people seen much jobs up with "junior advertiser"

 

it says This is an ideal job for someone who has just left school and looking for a first job. does this mean first job after school or it 2 different questions like for someone who has left school or someone looking for a first time job

 

i wanna apply for it as the duties are

 

We are currently looking for 2 young people to help us advertise on the Internet.

 

Duties include;

 

Posting adverts on Facebook

 

Posting adverts on Gumtree

 

Listing beds on eBay

 

Communicating with people by answering any questions they may have and taking orders on Facebook.

 

 

if this is just for people who have left school i dont see how that helps people who are on signing on if i cant apply for it as its just for people who have just left school

So many things wrong with this "advert" - You can not discriminate against someone based on their age. A couple of links:

All cheerful words in the ad but you'll be expected to work your a*** off and live, breathe, eat, dream 'the company'. This job would be my worst nightmare - even the JC know I don't do customer service as I haven't the patience with people.

 

I only did it once as a stopgap and left after 6 weeks as I couldn't stand the ass-kissing people, plus being virtually chained to the desk to take calls wearing a little headset wasn't pleasant either. I actually got on well with the customers as I'm a jokey kind of guy but even this caused friction with my workmates as their customers started asking to speak to me instead of them, as I was the 'only cheerful one'. I left when they tried to get me to do pro-active sales, which I explained at interview I did not do and would not do. I don't mind taking existing orders but not pestering people to buy things.

 

If this is the kind of job you fancy then go for it - but you really have to love sales and pressure and competition to stay in it. I'm all for a quiet life

All those type of jobs where you're likely to be dealing with annoyed customers are extremely mentally fatiguing. Even if you're a 'people person' you end up at the end of a shift feeling utterly wrung-out.

IMO avoid as they're a lot of hard work for little money.

ye this is what i was thinking how can u put a job like that up and say basically only for school leavers what about people like me who have been unemployed for a few years cause jobs like this is gonna give me confidence so what they are basically saying is a school leaver is gonna be more useful than someone who is signing on?

 

ye a need to find someone with a printer to print cv of to send to them but if i remember next week when i sign on that to say to them about this vacancy.

I got "offered" a 'job' as an Ebay lister a while back - They send you the info to post listings on Ebay, when a mark purchases the item, you take their money and forward the delivery details on to the company. After taking out your commission, you send the remaining funds via Western Union to another agent.....

 

Of course, the company never sends the goods out, the buyer lodges a Paypal dispute, you lose all your money and risk a prosecution for fraud.

 

I included it in my job search diary, and said I was waiting for an interview...

why do the job centre let different companies put up the same job and change the names as if its a new job?

 

i applied for o2 the other day there and for the past 4-5 days its come up retail advisor retail etc from different companies when it was only put up with o2 i dont see how hard it is to stop them they try hide the job and in till u click on the link it goes straight to o2 why surely its not hard to see that they are having the same job from start of the week keep coming up everyday

I'd assume it involves everything; sweeping the floors, wiping the tables, doing anything in the kitchen - including cooking - washing up, taking out the rubbish, cash handling, customer service, thinking up ideas to improve things (for which you'll get no credit)..and anything else they can think of for you to do.

 

The days of 'one job, one job title' ended in the early 80's. Expect to do loads of things now as 'part of the job'.

 

I mainly apply for jobs with the simple title of 'Administrator' - which to me suggests general office work, nothing specialised but the job requirements usually want credit control, accounts, purchasing, legal experience, etc - a whole different ball game, for which they'd need to pay me much higher wages than an 'administrator' would get. The way of the world these days though.

got a call from a company when i sent some cvs out but was only been offered 8hour contract but could be a bit of overtime have many people had these jobs? or would u take it?

 

plus if i only got 8hours its not gonna be good as its gonna cost me probz about £20 a week from a mega rider a 1 week pass and after paying my digs i will be skint and it would to me be a waste for all the traveling.

 

al keep quiet not tell the job centre or that as if i mention it i would be f*cked lol and am sure the company wont inform the job centre as they dont am signing on or at college etc

Administrator is a combination of receptionist, clerk and typist which saves 2 wages and destroys 2 jobs at leadt

4 weeks away from it is ok, you can enjoy the start of summer

 

 

for your other activities how about

 

 

create a couple of covering letters, tailored to the type of work you are wanting

register with some more on line job sites/agencies

any free local papers in your area you don't normally get that friends/family do
