British Gas is to offer free electricity for eight hours at weekends to two million customers who have smart meters installed.

 

Customers will be able to choose to use the free power either on Saturday or Sunday, between 9am and 5pm.

 

 

 

But....

 

Most of British Gas's 11 million customers will not be eligible immediately, as only 2.4 million of these currently have smart meters.

 

and

 

British Gas said consumers should see savings of about £60 a year.

 

But experts said it will not necessarily be the cheapest deal on the market, and advised people to shop around with other suppliers.

I have just spoke to an adviser on another mater and asked about it

They have only just been briefed on it the rate wold be higher than normal, so would be beneficial,

if you have alot of washing to do and use a tumble dryer.

So could save on a Saturday or a Sunday

The actual tariff applied which is offered over different fixed periods is actually dearer than just staying as you are and paying for what you use weekly.

 

Pointless.

I see British Gas is offering free electricity, to families who

have smart meters installed, it will be free either on a

Saturday or Sunday.

 

From what I have heard these meters could cut the power

off to household appliances, such as fridges and freezers,

they say it’s for people to manage their electricity demand.

 

If I turn off my freezer for 2 hours then the temperature

inside is going to increase, this means the freezer will have

to work extra to bring the temperature back down to what

it was, how does that save electricity?.

 

BG says the average annual savings will be about £60 pa.

 

They also say that customers will not have to pay to have a

smart meter fitted, instead the cost which is estimated to

be £200 will be added to customers’ bills, who the hell do they

think pays the bill.?

 

It will take three and a half years to get your money back.

(don’t you just love it) most likely need a new meter by that time.

Hi Buckthorn

 

I know they are smart meters,

But they are not that smart, to be able to turn off individual appliances,

 

Also the installation for the meter and cast of the meter is free,

no tariff change.

As Andy has said If you go on to this plan the Tariff will be higher,

so unless you use an awful, lot of electric between the hours.

It would be pointless.
