Passengers are entitled to up to £470 in compensation if a flight arrives at their destination more than three hours late.

The exception is if the delay is caused by a so-called ‘extraordinary circumstance’ such as bad weather, industrial action or a bird hitting a plane.

Airlines have been accused of repeatedly exploiting this rule to wriggle out of paying legitimate claims.

The classic "extraordinary circumstances" rofl.

This is gonna be a big blow for these airlines and a great win for customers knowing that if there are delays they have a good chance of compensation and be less of an uphill battle.

  • 3 weeks later...

took me 5 years to get my comp back for a 7 hour flight delay from ibiza,In the end i was put on to a firm in holland who did most of the work for me.I had all the paper work and mostly my flight boarding card.it was tomas cook i took to court.well they did.if your delay is from outside uk you need proof from the company that runs that countries airports, you need to write to them.there is a site on line that goes back years and can tell you how long the delay was.I was happy with what i got even after % was taken out.
