Home affairs committee

Q: In November you said you wanted more women in parliament. Does that include the Lords? And why have you not appointed more women peers?

Johnson says there are now more female PPS (parliamentary private secretaries) than men.

He says there has been “spectacular female leadership” in Covid from people like Dido Harding and Kate Bingham.

sigh

Ah well at least it will make Priti Monstrous jealous ...

Spectacular - yes - spectacularly bad ...

More from the home affairs committee where the fire brigade has been called to a particularly spectacular case of Johnson pants on fire

Q: Last year you said there would be no extra paperwork at the Northern Ireland border post Brexit. Why did you say that?

Johnson says things are flowing smoothly at the border, and they are flowing so smoothly that many haulier are using that route rather than the Holyhead-Dublin route.

Should just call him a god-damned liar.

I'm not sure which paper James O'Brien posted earlier on Twitter, ranting about lorries crossing into Switzerland with no problems and saying the Dutch shouldn't confiscate meat sandwiches.

He pointed out that Switzerland is in the single market and  in the Schengen area...

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/british-lorry-drivers-fined-kent-access-permit-brexit-192425396.html

It would appear that Lorry drivers need a permit to drive through Kent to Dover ?

Quote

Hundreds of British lorry drivers have been given £300 fines for not having a permit to enter Kent – a measure brought in due to Brexit.

Police have handed out a total of 407 penalties since the new rules came into effect when the UK stopped being under EU rules on 1 January.

Hauliers travelling from around the UK heading to France have to get a Kent Access Permit before entering the county so they can carry on their way via the Port of Dover or Eurotunnel.

The extra red tape has caused controversy and hold-ups at the border.

But Johnson has constantly said that no extra documentation would be needed to access Ireland, let alone Kent - if they ask - send them to him.

Must be Johnson supporters as they seem to have believed Johnson 'The Liar'

I take it they have never been through US or Australian customs ... let alone when you get some american jobsworth who has a hangover and an unimpeachable sense of American superiority and God given right ...

Some of the EU zone are allowing a lot of leeway - it shouldn't be expected as a right.

That IS what the UK Brexiters claim we all voted for ..

On the Today programme this morning Brandon Lewis, the Northern Ireland secretary, said the shortages of some goods in supermarkets in Northern Ireland was nothing to do with the new post-Brexit customs rules. He said:

"That’s actually something we’ve seen across other parts of the UK as well, nothing to do with leaving the EU, nothing to do with the Northern Irish protocol but actually to do with some of the challenges we saw with Covid at the Port of Dover just before Christmas and the impact that had on supply lines coming through. I have to say supermarket supply lines at the moment are in good fettle."

That puts the kybosh on Johnson 'the Liars' excuse to invoke the NI emergency clause in the Brexit agreement doesn't it?

UK is a Third Country now, EU cannot treat UK any differently to any other, what part of that can't they grasp?

So yesterday, MPs approved legislation to allow the government NOT to reject trade deals with countries that have committed genocide, rejecting a Lords amendment that would have stopped this.

And protection for the NHS in trade deals, which means it's up for grabs.

Oh, and to allow imports of animal and agiculatural products that are of a lower standard than currently permitted in the UK.

I can remember ministers promising not to allow any of these and not that long ago. Still it doesn't matter now, they have a large majority. :classic_sad:

Is HMG deliberately winding up Brussels? They don't want to recognise the EU ambassador as a proper ambassador. I thought we had an ambassador to the EU but maybe that went with Brexit.

thers no point the UK gov doing anything but is there?

Once the UK 's singapore on Thames financial antics and rights and regs bonfire gets more obviously underway, the UK will lose anything they already have that isn't in the EU's benefit.

The EU is seeing very small problems compared to the UK's loss of financial access and 3rd country customs regs.

Scottish independence and Irish reunification; all in the EU; coming down the tracks like the flying Scotsman on a full head of steam

SNP expected to increase their MPs, Johnson starting to get his pheasents revolting (like Patels recent critiques)

... Putin and the extreme right American billionaire club in a two pronged attack has effectively ended the UK without firing a missile.

You couldn't make it up HB, but they need an EU presence, agent or EU based company to facilitate import into the EU some points on Richard North's blog
