More tremors at Cuadrilla’s shale gas site after fracking finishes for the day

The British Geological Survey has reported a 0.5 magnitude earth tremor this afternoon near Cuadrilla’s fracking site on the edge of Blackpool. There was also a 0.4M tremor and two micro-seismic events.

 

Although too small to notice on the ground, the 0.5M event is the largest so far recorded in a series at the site since fracking began earlier this month.

 

Cuadrilla said the 0.5M tremor did not count as a red seismic event under the government’s traffic light system for monitoring seismicity. This would have required the company to

stop fracking,carry out checks on the well and inform the regulators.

I will tell you what i was upto.As mad as it i just cannot understand a industry that is making nothing.

And do not care what people think of me.

So the reason i was looking into the companies whether Australian,American,Chinese or wherever was i was trying to check the bosses out.

See if any had connections to the Sub Prime ,Investment organisations, Banks,Companies etc and had moved on to create another mess.Another racket.

But i have not got the energy or time.

Fracking in the US is doing reasonably well financially but not as well as expected - especially due to Irans oil exports starting up again driving down the cost per barrel of oil - which also impacts the gas fracking market.

Another earthquake has hit Blackpool near the Preston New Road fracking site - and it's the biggest one so far. Cuadrilla has stopped all fracking operations for 18 hours due to the 'red event' quake, which happened at around 11.30am.

First red-level tremor at Cuadrilla’s fracking site

A 0.8 magnitude earth tremor was recorded today near Cuadrilla’s fracking site at Preston New Road on the edge of Blackpool.

 

The event, at 12.30pm (bst), happened while fracking was taking place, the company has confirmed.

 

It qualifies as the first red event near the site under the government’s traffic light system regulations for induced seismicity.

Looking at the Earthquake chart makes me feel sick.

This company is desperate,desperate for money and desperate companies lie and cheat.

I missed your post on the last page we both must have posted about the same time and then the page turned so did not see it till now.

Yes Jeremy Corbyn has made it quite clear that fracking will be finished if in power.

Last time i looked the video he made the other day had over 250,000 views or more.

I have said before i am not bothered what political party someone supports but when something is not right it is usually clear to see.

Talking to a Conservative the other day at the Rally he told me in his area which is Conservative but under threat that Conservatives had been seen wearing Conservatives against Fracking printed on their shirts.

This policy must be costing them thousands of supporters.

MPS are not daft and many Conservative MPS must know and must be talking about Fracking and the hell for many.

The other day in my town there was a power cut.Fear spread to some and wondered if this had been caused by the Frackers.

People are on edge.

From a company who i think back on April the first 2011 caused Earthquakes and were shut down but allowed to frack the area again.

FRACKING TRUCKS: SAND IN, WASTE OUT – WHERE WILL IT BE DUMPED?

Each stage uses 200,000 gallons of fracking fluid containing 75 tons of sand (plus chemicals). I dont think anyone with an ounce of honesty in them can now deny that fracking causes quakes, and they are certainly not limited to less than 0.5.

 

I also dont think anyone with an ounce of honesty in them could deny that even with just these levels of tremors, generated in very brief very careful TEST circumstances, which circumstances would NOT be the case in industrialised fracking across an estimated 5000 - 6000 wells,

- would be catastrophic.

Largest tremor so far stops Cuadrilla’s fracking again

I know when many links come on many of us just flick through the headlines but this deserves a read for sure.

There may be trouble ahead Professor David Smythe.Some quotes from it.

These could be future conduits for contamination from fracked shale. One of these, the Wakepark Fault (green on the seismic section), runs in a NE-SW direction nearly through the Wakepark artificial lake, 1300 m north of the horizontal well. According to all the information Cuadrilla has seen fit to publish, this fault does not exist, even though it was originally mapped at depth independently by Eukan Energy and by British Gas some thirty years ago.

 

Cuadrilla belatedly asked the Oil and Gas Authority to withhold release of the 3D survey, which should have become publicly available on 1 January this year, and which I had pre-ordered over a year ago. It took several FOIs and a letter threatening legal action from my brilliant lawyer Kate Harrison, of Harrison Grant Solicitors, London, to get the OGA finally to authorise release of this survey some 10 months late – but even now I have not actually received it. In my view the government is doing everything in its power to delay the due release of data that might be used to argue against Cuadrilla. That is not sound regulation; it is giving the cowboys free rein.

 

After a Earthquake it only seems to take 5 minutes before Cuadrilla say everything is fine,no damage to the well casing etc.

I think it was Professor David Smythe who said but i cannot find it now but will hunt for it that it could take a day or so using specialist equipment to check thoroughly.

We know what happened at the other site that was closed down.Do you trust them.

As i say i will hunt for the info,you read so much.Best not say to much at the moment.

It is not the damage to buildings it is the damage to the well that matters with this level of induced seismicity. It is not so much about geologists and geology here though – it is about engineering and well integrity. Vertical migration (not horizontal – geological) is the immediate threat here. Engineering. You shake the cement and it will degrade and crack the more you do it. The annulus changes. The casing can ovalise (deform). The formation can develop effective washouts. You CANNOT check for this in a fully constructed well that you are fracking. I see this a lot – Cuad have checked the well integrity – just how please have they done that then? A log (e.g a USIT) is needed and time. The costs are prohibitive. I have not seen a delay long enough for wireline or indeed a tool string going down. They should be delaying to 5x the time constant. I strongly suspect Cuad are relying on the AP at the surface only to verify integrity. This is nonsense.

 

 

Minister updates fracking “myth buster” on earthquakes.

The energy minister, Claire Perry, has revised her “myth buster” about shale gas and fracking, apparently to take account a series of earthquakes near Cuadrilla’s site in Lancashire.

 

The document, distributed to MPs and constituents, originally included this from “Myth#7:

 

“The risk of an earthquake from shale gas extraction is very low.”

 

But an updated version now says:

 

“Seismic events below magnitude 2.0 on the Richter scale are usually not felt”.

Unite calls for fracking to be halted as further tremors strike Lancashire

Unite the union is calling for an immediate halt to fracking in Lancashire after it was revealed that there had been at least 19 tremors at the Quadrilla site since fracking restarted at the site a fortnight ago.

 

The latest and most severe tremor occurred on Monday (29 October) measuring 1.0 on the Richter scale. It was so severe it was classified as a ‘red event’ resulting in fracking being temporarily suspended.

 

The fresh concerns about fracking safety come at a time when the government is considering its response to a consultation on fracking, which could result in local councillors being excluded from deciding whether fracking can go ahead in their local area.

Government urged to suspend Lancashire fracking over earthquakes

Councillors and campaigners in Lancashire are calling on the government to halt fracking at Cuadrilla’s shale gas near Blackpool following a series of earth tremors of increasing strength.

 

Azhar Ali lccThe 30-strong Labour group on the county council, is writing to the Local Government Secretary, James Brokenshire, today to call for a suspension.

 

The group’s leader, Cllr Azhar Ali, told DrillOrDrop:

 

“We are asking him to intervene and stop fracking until there has been an independent inquiry into the earthquakes. We cannot wait for a major incident to take place.”

It is really interesting to hear Francis Egan repeatedly whinging about the seismic traffic light system that Cuadrilla is having to work to at PNR.

A fracking firm caught up in a growing public outcry over earthquakes has made a staggering demand, as reported in the Times. It says that the rules around how strong earthquakes near fracking sites are allowed to be should be relaxed even more. Campaigners have obviously hit back.

Why is this.Well Cuadrilla agreed to the traffic light system for quakes,one of the reasons they were allowed to proceed after causing Earthquakes back in 2011.

But now it seems like they cannot work with this because they are tremor producers bar none.

They want to increase the risk to the earth,towns,people by increasing the magnitude before stopping much higher.

It surely looks like they are doomed and perhaps the investors have now seen this.

Any minister who tries to increase the limit for the Frackers might as well collect their P45.They will lose the support of most MPS and their constituents.

 

Yesterday in Parliament at the Fracking Debate many Conservative MPS stood up and said hey had had enough of this farce.

Cuadrilla accepted tough controls on fracking earth tremors six years ago

The fracking company that warned today it was “about to choke” from regulations on earth tremors worked with government officials six years ago to develop rules that were stricter than those used in other countries.

 

Francis Egan, chief executive of Cuadrilla, complained in the Financial Times that the UK shale gas industry could be “strangled before birth”. In an interview with The Times, he said “we are not getting effective fractures” and that unrepresentative results could “turn off investors”.

Today Mr Egan finally put his cards on the table. It is clear that he has not been lucky in the hand he got dealt, and neither has he played it with any great skill.

This statement by someone keep haunting me so best to pop it down somewhere.

Not a blink of the eye or any remorse as they rip away the lungs of the earth which will make some parts of the world uninhabitable within a short time.

It looks like the weakness has been found in Cuadrilla plan to Frack away.

Lets see what the Government do as the pressure builds from their chums.

The pressure to increase the Earthquake limit.

 

I would think Careers or possible future careers in politics comes before giving in to the Frackers demands.

We will see as today the investors seem to be ditching their investments.

I read on the news this morning that Quadrilla want to increase their seismic limits from 0.5 to 2.0 before work stops. Erm, sorry quadrilla, you agreed to these limits when you got permission and now that these quakes are having an effect on your activities, you want to move the goalposts.

 

 

Even tremors that cannot be felt must be causing some damage below ground and my opinion is that if more quakes occur, the cumulative affect will be a large quake doing damage above ground. Then there is the well casings. If quadrilla fitted the casings with an expectation of minor quakes not affecting them, what would happen if the higher limits were imposed. I bet the casings would deform at the very least but what if the fracture? How will quadrilla deal with it? Answer; they won't be able to do so unless they withdraw all the drill tubes and inspect the entire length of the casings with remote cameras. They won't want that to happen as it will affect their bottom line.

 

 

The government minister(s) involved with the approval must be in hiding at the moment.

Alarmingly, the UK Tories seems to be presenting fracking as an profitable exportable product that they are utterly committed too despite any UK industry being decidedly small fish compared to US and Canadian fracking business and that approach needing 1000's of wells in the UK.

Residents welcome government refusal to relax fracking seismicity rules

The government’s rejection of Cuadrilla’s call for a relaxation of rules on earthquakes caused by fracking has been welcomed tonight by campaigners in Lancashire.

 

The Preston New Road Action, which has opposed Cuadrilla’s operations near Blackpool, said increases in the trigger levels of the traffic light system would be “an entirely unacceptable concession to the industry”.

 

The company asked the government last week to raise the level of seismic activity at which fracking must stop. This followed a series of small earth tremors near the Preston New Road, some of which passed the red-light threshold.
