To hear of someone carrying out some selfless task to benefit somebody else, rather than themselves.

To hear the wonderment in a young child's voice and to see their excitement at Christmas-time.....You know that all the preparation was worth-while.

After being put out to grass at the age of sixty, because of ill-health, being given full-time employment by one of the company's main competitors.

If this has been useful to you, please click on the scales at bottom left of post. Thanks.

I'm a simple person so in no particular order.

Opening a door for somebody, and having them utter the rarest of all words "Thank you"

Spending time with my wife

Spending quality time with family

Spending time with friends

Getting one over on ANY Financial Institution

Photography, and taking photos of far flung places

Visiting far flung places

Eating food from far flung places - Chinese and Thai for instance :D

Listening to good music

Driving in sunshine

Being appreciated

Getting a hug from my 6" 19year old son

Getting a goofy toothy grin from my Lab (her version of smiling!)

The birdsong I can hear in the garden

The lighter evenings (I get sooo depressed in the winter)

Spotting yet another mistake by the DCAs:D

Husband slowly realising that I do know what I'm talking about when he gets his charges refunded!

The Bear Garden

Just being alive:p

Remembering seeing my brother for the first time when he was less than 20 minutes old (and boy did he have a good pair of lungs!).

Seeing the look on people's faces when you have helped them out - little else that is more rewarding for me.

Thinking about skydiving. Not that I ever get to do it! Belgian chocolates. Indian food. Being lecherous after a few bevvies. :) :) :) Playing football. Cross country running. Haven't done much of that for a while! Happiness cheers me up, am I being an oxymoron? A good kip. Waking up on the days when you don't have much to do. Music that suits my mood. Travelling. Thinking about the nice German Shepherd i'm getting in the next few months. Not having any debt! Not bearing grudges. Being at peace with myself. Having dignity and self-respect. Not caring what others think about me. Not having regrets.

This list is by no means exhaustive, but i'll leave it at that. Wait I forgot one! Feeding trolls till they're stuffed and can't go on more. You have to strip off and climb in the pit with them, but they are usually easy pickings. I know I shouldn't!

What sort of world do you want your kids to grow up in?

A very dear friend has just lent us a substantial amount (interest free) to get the VAT man off our backs - a very true friend who I couldn't speak to, because I was in tears of gratitude and had to leave it to OH to deal with. I said that I hope that someday in the future, I could also help someone the way she has.
