The company i work for used to give staff their wage slips two days before wages were due. the managers now have been contacted and told not to give staff pay slips until pay day even if they are in possession of them before this. does anyone know if this is legal and should we have pay slips beforehand.

My Missus usually gets hers at the end of the month.

A lot depends on the size of the business.

Small companies do their own on site using payroll programmes whilst bigger companies now farm out their wage payroll accounts to payroll agencies.

I wouldnt think its illegal to provide them after the end of the month, and would have thought that if enough employees asked then it would be reversed.

If the pay office is approachable (You have easy access to staff there) then theres no harm in asking them to explain your grievances and ask them for an explanation.

I have asked the reason for this but managers have just been told that even if wage slips are in their possession they cannot distribute them until pay day. i thought this was a bit strange

Ah well they must have their reasons.

As I said I dont think they are breaking any Employment legislation this is obviously more about internal company policies than anything else.

Employment Rights Act 1996

1996 Chapter 18

Section 8

States:

Quote

Right to itemised pay statement

8. - (1) An employee has the right to be given by his employer, at or before the time at which any payment of wages or salary is made to him, a written itemised pay statement.

End Quote

IOT - They can give you your pay slips ANYTIME before payday but are breaking the law if they supply them after payday. Your comapny must be acting on internal policy as it certainly isn't agaist the law to provide them a few days beforehand.

Could Possibly mean handing out a wage slip that may be incorrect a few days before payday, leaves time for the correction to be made.

Hand it out on pay day, company holds the missed wages an extra week.

every little bit helps,

Iv,e worked for some extremely sly tight companys, dont know how big your company is but i have found the little ones are the worst.

I dont se why you could not request teh amount prior to the wage slip, have you tried ringing accounts.
