Has anyone received a letter from Barclays yet?

I know im going over old ground, but I sent 5 emails to advent requesting my exam codeand then decided I would call them today (11 feb 2010) and went to there website only to find the notice.

I didn't even get an email telling me what had happened.

I have took all the advise off here (thanks). But was wondering if anyone has received any news from the bank, I have been told the same as everyone else 'there is a letter....blah blah blah', as some people have been on the ball with this from day one.

I also suspect there is people out there that are unaware of the situation, as I only contacted my mentor when I wanted to sit an exam.

I was on an interest free loan which I have been paying for a year. (5.5k)

Many have had letters from BPF saying that Advent are gone and that they are trying to make arrangements with an alternative provider and that you should continue paying as normal in the meantime.

If you think about the scale of the problem (1000's of accounts) this could

take some time - if it ever happens and in the meantime you're still paying.

What most are doing or have already done is to insist the BPF 'freeze' the account until such time as they can honour their obligation.

Example letter you can adapt here:

Dear Sir/Madam

Than you for you letter of the ***********concerning the above.

From this I note, you recognise your responsibilities under Sec 75, Consumer Credit Act 1974, in that you are trying to source an alternative training provider. It is very obvious however, that this may well be a protracted process due to the sheer number of customers and accounts involved.

You say in the meantime that my account will continue as normal. This situation is clearly NOT normal. In effect you are saying: that I should continue to pay for a service which is not being provided and which might, (or might not), be provided at some indeterminate point in the future.

Therefore I insist that:

You ‘freeze’ this account, (including interest) until such time as you can in fact source an alternative provider, that is capable in all respects of fulfilling the contract that has been breached.

You confirm in writing that you have taken the above action and that it will not result in adverse data being entered on my credit file.

Please give this matter your urgent attention.

Yours faithfully

I used this on behalf of a relative and they confirmed in writing - the account on hold, the DD is cancelled and that it will not affect your credit rating.

David

Afternoon all,

Has anyone had any dealings with RBS over this? That's who I've got my CDL with but nearly everyone on here seems to have theirs through Barclays. Just wondered if anyone had any tips on where to go from here really as I've spoken to RBS & they said the problem is with Advent & not them, so as far as they're concerned I have to start paying back the loan soon. Any ideas??

You have forgotten who is in charge James. They have no interest in anything the ordinary man in the street suffers. They might pay lip service to it but that's as far as it will go.

I have signed though.

That explains it then...so just to check... Everyone should sign the petition detailed below to try and get our money back from Advent / Barclays Partner Finance etc. Please place this link elsewhere and send it to your friends, we need everyone to sign it to make sure its recognised! As I stand I have had no letter from Barclays or anything! I had to ring them and send letters to

them to be told anything and personally I don't think that's good enough!

ok ive signed petition. Lets hope it works . gotta get these [problem] suckers with all this money we've paid we'll all have to go on the dole and then we can sit on our arses and let the lazy government pay us for a change. Why are we getting slammed when we have all tried to get on in life!!!!!

Cause this whole thing doesnt make you wanna try and learn new skills to help this country get back on its feet again. I havent come into this world to pay greedy fat bankers and [problem] computer companies money for nothing !!!

I agree Milly after the government spends years telling us to get more skills and this firm promises you the world and just do not deliver. I believe the majority of Advents customers are victims. In the bigger picture when Barclays pulled the plug they knowingly or unknowingly stuffed advent anyhow, and now they want us to carry on paying? I for one do not feel morally obliged to pay them anything.

Its a shame life is not based on morals eh?

I've called barclay's and they told me they sent out correspondences to everyone and if we wanted a particular provider we have to send them the request in writing for them to consider. But they also stated to me when I asked, 'what if you can't find a alternative provider' I was told that each person would be looked into individually so I would assume it meant, how much service we had gotten will deduct from what they will pay out. Its just a assumption though, but I feel it may be the case :S

I also signed that petition btw
