Summary

The government is seeking to gather evidence to inform our review of parking charges and debt recovery fees in the private parking industry.

This consultation closes at
11:59pm on 24 September 2023

Who is this for:

The government is keen to ensure that any further additional evidence which is material to the impact assessment is gathered through this call for evidence, therefore responses from all interested parties are invited and welcomed.

However, this call for evidence is technical in nature and is likely to be of most interest to those involved specifically in the private parking industry who are likely to be best placed to assist the government with relevant evidence.

Bit of a sad read.

The Impact Assessment keeps banging on about debt recovery fees and whether they should be banned.

I thought POFA covered this aspect and indeed these fees have been disallowed numerous times in court.

We could do with some help from you.

Although the Code of Practice has been withdrawn, in several Witness Statements we have emphasised that (a) the withdrawal is temporary and (b) the Code is being challenged by the PPCs on the levels of private parking charges and additional debt collection fees, but not on any other matter.

I've just had a look at the government page and see that they have changed the announcement of a simple withdrawal to: Private Parking Code of Practice is temporarily withdrawn pending review of the levels of private parking charges and additional fees.

Nice to see the government following CAG's example 😉
