Hi - new to the site so hello to you all!

7 days ago today, I sent my first letter to Halifax, requesting the return of £1131 from charges applied over the last six years. They acknowledged the letter but nothing since....

Hoping for a quick resolution but suspect to go all the way to setting a court date...

Will let you know how I progress!

Hello!

After my LBA letter reached its deadline, yesterday, I raised a claim via MCOL. This morning, Halifax called me and said they wished to resolve the matter. they offered me £800, of a claimed amount of £1131. I politely refused. He asked me what I would accept, to which I replied "the full amount owed". This he agreed to, even adding £60 in charges I had overlooked to the total! I have now withdrawn the claim and had confirmation that they will refund my fee!

I will let you know when it is all paid into my account - can't quite believe it! Many thanks for all the help from this site...I will donate when the money comes through!

I received a letter from Halifax yesterday, detailing just why the charges are acceptable and how I had signed to agree to the terms and conditions and so on...this led to their "goodwill gesture" of returning £1191 (£60 more than claimed). I had to sign a form stating this is the only claim I will make against these charges.

Interestingly, i had asked for a breakdown of the costs involved to them that allow them to justify such high charges. They replied that they have no obligation to release that information as it is commercially sensitive. Has this ever been disputed through the Data Protection Act? Thought I might take it on myself, if not...

  • 3 months later...

Hi just issued my claim on MCOL against Halifax after being refused via the standard letters (again stating that it was in Terms and Conditions) I'm Claiming £4995 plus court costs. I hope that they default or settle but if they defend what is the best way to enhance my case?

Is requesting via freedom of information Act a breakdown of the bank charges a way forward? How can I get old copies of Terms and Conditions?

Any help would be useful.

Thanks in advance
