Hello all.

I want to make a claim in small claims court but believe I have been given a false name for the person I wish to claim against.

He sold me a car and lied on the advert. He has since claimed it was a private so sold as seen but I have evidence that would likely indicate that he is selling cars for profit. (multiple adverts for selling cars, pictures of property with multiple vehicles advertised etc).

How can I find out the name of the person to make the claim against? If I use the fake name he will obviously ignore it. I do have the license plate of his car so is it possible to find out any info from that?

Any help appreciated!

Surely his name will be the previous keeper on the V5 when you get it back from DVLA with your details on it.

Where was the car advertised, can you let us have the registration price paid and why you think you’ve been lied to.

where are they advertised? you may be able to get the details form the magazine or site as long as you make it clear that it is a trader details you are after. they dont like being tricked either so may well do somehting behind the scenes.

next question is where did you collect it from? Same place as in the ads? If so then a quick electoral roll check.

You can request keeper detaisl from the DVLA. They will charge you and want to know why you require them.
