Exactly, undue care and attention doesn't sound unreasonable..

I dread to think how the children of today are going to be taught real social interaction - most parents now always seem to have their phone in their hand either texting, instant messaging, facebooking, tweeting or playing games!

I can remember, and we managed just fine

 

We went glamping the year before last and took no mobile phones or internet devices and it was bliss!!

I am too young to properly remember life before mobiles. We did used to go out and have to take 2 10ps for the phone box though.

We tried an experiment at work one night. We all turned off our mobiles to see who would last the longest. The youngster failed after one hour needing to check on Facebook. He is constantly on his phone even at 4 in the morning. I have used the horn on a youth who stepped out in front of the car while on his Ipod with ear phones in. He didn't even hear that and carried on walking. There was a young girl recently killed on a railway crossing because she didn't look and could not hear the train coming.

The company I remember first was one to one back in 1990 and a phone could cost between £200 and £300. It was very much a luxury back then. You can't be much past 21 then Nysti!

 

Before that were the brick type and you would need muscle to carry it around.

 

They also said texting would never take off.

I'm 24. I remember being about 12 and having my first mobile. It was a brick compared to what we have now. But I also remember the phone screens not being so big and just being able to call and text on them. I still have one of those which I sometimes use.

I like texting but with most things there is a time and a place and texting while crossing the road is not clever but how do you educate people ?

I think the only thing that humans being need educating in, is common sense - but I honestly think common sense is a thing of the past

 

As someone said, railings had to be put up so people wouldn't fall in the water! This is why there are so many restrictions, or activities are now a thing of the past, because the state has to babysit the population from their own lack of common sense! It's ridiculous!

 

For example, a drunken person walks alongside a river, slips and falls in, they get hypothermia, almost die, and sue the local council for not having adequate fencing! When the reality should be...DO NOT WALK NEXT TO A RIVER WHEN AS DRUNK AS A SKUNK

 

Common sense is all it takes!
