What confuses me is that, how did BG get your date of birth ?? I have never given my date of birth to a utility company. They get my name and address and thats it.

However I have been chased for a bank debt that I have never banked with and scarily they did have my DOB but had the wrong maiden name. I think what a lot of these tracing agents do is phish for names and addresses then make it up as they go along. I would write in a formal complaint to BG and demand compensation, This company is a leech and gets it wrong all the time believe me I have had years of fighting them for their cock ups.

Energy ombudsman was my first thought also, there is also BBC Watchdog!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/gotastory/

We all know how quickly BG backs down and admits they are a company to avoid after they get any bad press... I used them during the phantom Lowlifes 3G phone debt saga, sure enough once aired on TV they scurried back under their rock with their tale between their legs...

Is it Chris Huhne that is the MP for energy? An email to him or whoever it is to raise the subject might be another avenue?

Who ever heard of someone getting a job at the Jobcentre? The unemployed are sent there as penance for their sins, not to help them find work!

  • 2 weeks later...

update re this saga:email from CEO office basically saying that BG contacted the land registry and surprise surprise their was someone of my name/dob living at the address in salford but they can see now that it not me!!sorry for any distress and we admitt our communication was flawed, they have told me they will take the dob of the person they are chasing off their files so that it doesnt come back to me.

They sent me flowers and an apology, all good, but I still have questions!!!

1.Why didnt they do the land registry investigation first!!this would have saved me from all the unbelievable anxiety this has caused me and time spent writing letters etc.

2.How do I know that this is an end to it?presumably BG still want their money and willl hand it back to SRJ or some other ****,so whats to stop me being persued again and we are back to square one?

Should I leave sleeping dogs to lie now or should I submitt a further complaint?should I also complain to SRJ as they have never ever acknowledged my original letter of dispute and went onto the harrassing phone calls and letter of intended litigation?

Can I go anywhere else or further with this??

British gas have form for this type of harassment of completely paid up customers, even forcing their way into people's homes and installing pre payment meters. I would mention to the company that you are going to discuss it with BBC watchdog. I remember the last 2 times they were on for this. You'ld have thought they would have stopped this behaviour by now.

Whilst the flowers were, I'm sure an unexpected welcome, and gratefully received, I would be inclined to take this further as you rightly surmise, what happens if? And why didn't they do comprehensive checks before they begin throwing wild accusations around to innocent people, blackening their name and putting in motion a chain of events designed to intimidate and threaten people.

BBC Watchdog, AND your local MP.

If you have proof of them pursuing you still after placing the accout in dispute by saying they'd got the wrong person, I'd be inclined to send them a Letter Before Action saying you will be taking them to court for the distress and worry caused and will commence action without further warning after a period of 21 days has passed unless they want to offer to settle out of court.

I 100% agree with this.

sorry forgot to say that at the start of all this i did send a letter(the proove it)letter to SRJ sent it recorded delivery etc guess what?no reponse from them they then started hounding me with phone calls and I got the "intended notice of litigation letter"from SRJ just before xmas,I then got in touch with BG who called it back in house but sent several emails saying"all the evidence we have suggest that you opened this account in salford",this was despite me sending reams of ID to BG.They did say however that they would put any debt collection on hold whilst they investigated!

Since recieving the email fromBG CEO where they told me that they had realised that theyd made a mistake,I have subsequently asked for something in writing on headed paper and for all my ID back,I havent even had an acknowledgement of that email!!

Can I get any where with this?whats the next step I should take?

Dear BG,

Your chosen third party debt collectors have contacted me regarding an outstanding bill at an address I have never lived at.

I strongly advise that you inform your deluded collection agency that if they fail to stop harassing me regarding an unknown debt to yourselves, I will seek legal advice, with a view to taking yourselves to court for their actions.

I have never been a customer of yours in the area they are purporting. I have informed the OFT & TS as to your abysmal customer service, and will now inform the energy ombudsman and BBC Watchdog, to highlight to the public your inaccurate and incompetence service.

I dunno, simply tell them how it is, that you don't own this laughable company anything, they are wrong, you are right, if they wish to foolishly chase this, then you will gladly see them in court and counter sue them for damages.

Alternatively email the CEO: [email protected]
