well, I thought I'd just tell you about my claim!

Barclays have twice charged me even after I have phoned up in advance and they have told me not to worry, only to charge my account after all. Their call centre staff have lied straight to my face twice.

Also, my monthly fee of £4 have suddenly gone up to £5, withno notice, but anyway, back to the overdraft charges.

First time, they refunded my money straight away, no questions asked.

In March, I was made redundant without warning, as the company I worked for, went into administration.

I was told this ON PAYDAY.

Because I had DD's coming out of my account the same day, I called Barclays up and explained the situation, obviously I was in distress, trying to figure out how the hell i was going to make it through the month on no money whatsoever, as it would take 6 weeks to get my wages owed paid to me!

Barclays said they understood what a difficult situation I was in, and would extend my overdraft, I just had to call back in 24 hours.

I called back in 24 hours, and they had already charged £30 to my account, and I was told that they would keep charging me more! Regardless of what they had told me the day before.

ANyway, I was too busy getting a new job and trying to make it through the next couple of months.

Then, a few weeks ago, I sent a letter to complain and explain the situation..about 2-3 weeks later...voila! £60 back in my account.

BUT- I sent another letter, (written by a lawyer, that I found somewhere on the net) the day before I got my money refunded, and it seems they are not even aware that they have paid me back!

I got a letter yesterday, saying that although they do no agree with my claim, they are willing to settle it with £85!

So, I signed the letter and sent it back, and should have the money in my account within a week.

So, thats another 85 quid on top of the money the already paid me back.

I know this is a small claim, but it is money at the end of the day!

I am now in the process of sending off a LBA for my partner, who has paid £975 charges the last 3 years, so I will keep you updated on this.

My Barclaycard has defaulted because THEIR charges has taken me over my limit, and I have simply stopped paying it, because they send me statements claiming completely different amounts in the matter of days!

So now I have bad credit file, too, and can't even open anothe rbank account with a cheque book and visa.

So I will go ahead with a claim on that, too!

My partner works in debt collection as a negotiator, and he said Barclaycard are the worst- he says he has people in his clientfile who cannot speak english! So how could they have understood and agreed to the terms & conditions?:-|

Everytime I tell someone about claiming back charges, they look at me like I am crazy, but it really works!

I just need to get my credit report nice and clean again, so I can change to a better bank.

(sorry, posted this in the wrong thread at first..!)

I want to reclaim my bank charges but I my current account has a £3000 overdraft on it and so I am finding it really difficult to get another bank account. Is there anything that I can do while I am waiting to improve my credit rating?

Hi 29 an Trolly

There are several things you can do which may (or may not) improve your credit rating. Namely you can have adverse data from closed accounts (ie defaults for loans, late payments on CCs and phone contracts) removed from your credit report

Have a read of this http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/legalities/20118-default-hell.html

and this http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/legalities/24013-defaults-proposed-method-removal.html

and this

in the meantime you should be able to get a parachute account, see here http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/general/13832-do-you-need-parachute.html

First and foremost, you need to start your own thread. Once you do this, other claimants, Site Helpers and MOD's will pick up on it and give the necessary help.

Well done trolleydolly. I'm trying to claim back charges for my son but Barclaycard have told me (him) that, if we want statements prior to May 2004 they are stored on microfiche so they want £3 per statement to reproduce those. Any suggestions?

I'm a novice here so if I've posted in the wrong place please let me know!!!!

No wonder so many of us have debt's, half of it is down to the Banks/B. Societies ripping us off in the first place.

I forgot about the £7 a month service charge on my (empty) account, which when taken out (by lloyds) then cost me £35, gone overdrawn!! not noticed for three day's, until letter arrived.

TOTAL COST FOR £7.00 = £105.00:mad:

Soz, had to let that out! am better now and hoping to retire on what bank owes me, (ha) soz, just thinking about the last 30 years of bank charges.

Just joined to say, that this thread has left me hopeful of success. keep bringing in the GOOD NEWS everyone

hi I have sent cheque for £10 for these statements, (on behalf of my son, he sent £50 off his barclay card and they deducted 1p off his balance) I sent it on 13th march, haven't had a reply, do I wait until 40 days are up, or do I contact bank in case they haven't received my post. The £10 chque hasn't been deducted from my bank.

Good luck, it takes alot of work, but there is plenty of help on this site.

Although they do choose to refund it,the 10.00 should always be sent since they are legally obliged to comply with the request only if the fee is enclosed.

Barclays are not the only ones who refund the 10.00 ....others do as well.

What Barclays score on with this nice gesture however they surely lose points with later on..........

Prepare for a long ride and accept nothing less than the full amount. The wait is always worthwhile in the end.

Quite likely that Barclays did not file anything either.

They wouldnt have turned up in court but probably settled just before......and asked for confidentiality.

If she doesnt respond here that will be the reason.
