I'm trying to book a London hotel for mid August but I do not have a credit card. I have a VISA Debit card, but all hotel websites and agents stipulate that each of the hotels I have selected require a credit card at check in.

Would a VISA debit card be appropriate, or what aboit one of these prepaid debit cards that look like credit cards e.g. Cashplus from the postoffice?

Anyone any ideas cos I'm tearing my hair out.

I've used my visa debit card loads of times when it's stipulated credit card only and it's always worked, it doesn't work for visa electron though.

Any posts submitted here on the Consumer Action Group under the user name GlasweJen may not necessarily be the view of the poster, CAG or indeed any normal person.

I've become addicted to green blobs (I have 2 now) so feel free to tip my scales if I ever make sense.;-)

Was worried about this cos could not stand the embarrassment if refused at the desk.

Thaanks though. Fingers crossed.

credit card is usually only required if you want acsess to use the room telephone, mini bar, daily papers etc. Might be worth a call pre-booking to say that you don't require these services, Then debit card only should be no poblem

  • 2 weeks later...

I had same problem so i applied for capital one card, had really poor credit score as well, they give you £200 limit so cant do much damage to it.

Also by using it every month and paying it off in full it somehow improved my creditscore.
