Half a million MORE british households cant afford their energy

.. thats staggering

That they are then forced into paying more per unit (excluding debt clearing costs) is unconscionable.

North seems to advise people in dire states to just piss them off (energy companies/debt collectors etc)

= alright if you are just doing it because you enjoy it - rather than actually being in dire straits

and aren't already exhausted from working 2/3 jobs a day trying to make ends meet

Seems to me that North is jealous of the fame and regard Lewis is held in

If that isnt the case, he should spit out the sour grapes and show it.

North also seems to expect ordinary people to know the difference between the various debt collectors, bailifs etc

- yet seems to rail at Lewis saying theyse cowboys (or not as the case may seemingly randomly be) need  stronger regulation

- yep, def sour grapes by North

Mind you, North should be well behind Starmers latest Brexit Bovine manuer

- apparently both =  it aint Brexit that causes the issues - its not getting cake and it it (a gooood deal)

- bit rishy rich from someone who bangs on about 'out of context' comments

Sunak said he was 'shocked' to hear about Mone receiving government money for PPE. But not enough to withdraw the whip, apparently. I thought he was pretty grim at PMQs.

Prices have been quite dramatically lower since the start of the month

- its continues profiteering by the big energy companies who manipulate the markets

Sell gas to their own market arms at a 'more reasonable' cost so they can claim they are not profiteering

Then their 'market arms sell high on open market

Thats how these companies can say it isnt the fossil extraction arms that are profiteering - its the quango they own thats the next step in the process

Its also how the fossil fuel extraction arms can claim loads of tax relief as profits are shifted away to other arms of the companies and costs shunted in

If someone with a dialysis setup at home or had a respirator that had to be powered was forced on prepay  self disconnected due to no money to top up and they died as a result, could the EnergyCo be investigated for murder or manslaughter?  If not they should be. Likely nothing will be done until a Coroner attributes a death directly to the self disconnection and forced prepay.

Corporate manslaughter potentially, but if the energy company signposted the customer to available help such as Council welfare or other organisations that help people pay for essentials, then the signposting action would be arguably enough to avoid the criminal charge.

Seems they sometimes ignore that when they apply for a warrant and fit a prepay, with a Smart meter as they can do it at press of a mouse, they likely don't consider that before they put them on prepay.

Heres a cost saving exercise for folks with ordinary meters. Shame North didn't suggest it.

If they are going to end up being forced onto a prepay smart meter, they should immediately request one fitted 'to help with their current temporary financial hardship'

- at least they wont end up with the fitting charges added to their bill, and its been fitted to help with hardship ....

and someone needs to make sure the industry scumbags aren't charging people fees for remote 'upgrading' existing smart meter victims to a default tariff and charging a fee for the honor

- or any fee at all.

"Citizens Advice bureau says it saw more people who were unable to top up their meter in 2022 than in the whole of the last 10 years combined"

Another one of the Toires global Britain touted projects bites the dust

"Brexit is to blame for the collapse of the British electric car battery start-up Britishvolt causing hundreds of job losses, according to former Conservative leader Lord William Hague.

The Tory grandee said the failure of the company – which had plans to build a giga-factory in Northumberland – was “part of the damage” of the UK’s exit from the EU."

  • 1 month later...

So, can someone explain to me why

Wholesale energy prices are at their lowest for 18 months,

and given the energy companies have made obscene record profits from selling less gas/energy

.. the price 'cap - surely that should be called price allowance - in the UK is still so high?

Seems the UK regulator is nothing more than an excuse for energy companies to rip us off?

BP, Shell .. Buying forward from themselves ...

or more accurately, UK energy systems buying forward from BP, Shell etc energy trading arms

whos trading arms buy it from their other parts at massive markups so the profits are in trading companies rather than the original extracting main companies who claim tax relief losses
