Morning everyone, this is my first ever post and i'm hoping to be a regular, On friday i started my quest to get the Halifax to return all my charges, i decided to try to ask for my statemnets over the phone which to my supprise they were fine about, it cost me £5 for 6 years worth, so i expect to be knee deep in paper very soon.

statements requested 23rd Nov charged £5

statements arrived 28th Nov

sent first letter claiming £1264 on 7th Dec to halifax

halifax replied standard letter 13th Dec

second letter sent 22nd Dec :p

Halifax sent letter 22nd Dec offering £1087 full & final only £177 short of the full amount:eek:

Accepted the offer on 28th Dec on to the next one.......

Hello and welcome, treat yourself to a pack of highlighter and when you have your statements, start a new thread in the Halifax forum for plenty of help, encouragement and advice from fellow claimers.

Whilst waiting for your statements, continue to read the FAQ's and Halifax threads.

Keep us informed and good luck!

Hi and welcome to the site,

:p

You've definately taken the first step into claiming back what's rightfully yours.

Spend time reading the FAQ's and the Step by Step guide as this will stop you making mistakes along the way. Use the letters and spreadsheets in the Templates Library as these have all been tried and tested in successful claims. Read as many threads as you can especially ones that relate to your bank. This is a SELF HELP site and won’t do the work involved for you. However, everything you need is on here somewhere.

Don't be afraid to ask any questions, no matter how stupid they may seem, but please remember that any advice that you receive is normally based on experience only and that you should seek expert advice if required.

Once you start the process of your claim remember to open a thread in the relative bank forum, this will enable you, and others helping you, to keep track of your claim.

All the best in your claim!!

Welcome Pinkglitter, follow the halifax threads and be guided the more wise on this site and you will get back your money. It takes patience and when you get the first letter telling you to go away and that the charges are fair and just, keeping picking away at them. use the template letters on the site, send everything recorded post and do not deal with them over the phone. get everything in writing, this way you have evidence if it is needed.

Good luck and keep posting so we can follow you path to success.

Hi Pinkglitter, welcome to the forum.

Spend the time while you are waiting for your statements by reading the FAQs and the step by step guide in the library section. that will answer most of your questions.

Communicate with the bank by letter only... do not phone. Keep copies of all correspondence (yours and theirs) then you have a permanent record without having to try to remember what's been said.

Open your own thread in the Halifax Bank forum and post any questions and progress reports there. You will be able to draw on the experience of other users who are also dealing with Halifax.

Good luck with your claim.:)

Hiya

My advice would be no!, simply because, when I have needed statements from Halifax in the past, for the Inland revenue, for example they have provided them really quickly.

It was only when I sent them a S.A.R. that they dragged it out for as long as possible, and then some more!

Give them the week, and see what happens, but in my opinion if Halifax don't think you want them for claims you get them a whole lot quicker!

If your statements arrive and you get them all then you may send the preliminary letter and go from there. However, there is a good reason to send the DPA letter and that is to do with manual intervention.

The bank may attempt to justify the charges based on a claim that your account has required lots of manual intervention by their staff, in which case it should be noted in the data they send you - if they do not send any then they are unable to prove any extra work has been done and will be unable to claim the charges are as a result of this.

iGroup (GE Money) - AoS Filed late, defence late, amended defence also late despite extra time requested and granted.

Vanquis - Claim issued, no AoS or Defence received

I have not got as far as you in my claim, but my friend got full settlement last month. She was sent a similar letter to yourself, before she did an MCOL, offering her approx 20% of what she was claiming as full and final settlement. She politely declined their offer and continued with filling a claim and recieved every penny, plus th 8% interest within 2 weeks.... there is a letter in the template library that you can send to politely refuse thier offer and continue with your claim to the Court.

Alternatively I have read that some people have accepted the first offer as part payment and continued to MCOL for the remainder, it total depends on your situation and how desperate you are for the money. If you can afford to wait a few more weeks I suggest you decline the offer and continue with your claim...... :)
