Three questions while I do the maths.

1. Should I complete ONE FOS for all the policies?

2. Does it come under Single Payment or Monthly Payment?

3. What address should I use to send my claim?

Thanks again

Hi

The section C.2 of the FOS requires me to tell why I borrowed ...

1 refinancing or consolidating other debts

(if so, please complete question C.3 on the next page)

2 buying a car

3 paying for home improvements

4 paying for a wedding

5 paying for a holiday

6 non-essential spending (for example, buying a new TV)

7 essential everyday spending (for example, rent, household bills or food shopping)

8 business loan

9 other (please tell us more below)

I really don't know what to say here. I have ticked 'buying a car', but, I am claiming against 7 policies. If I chose any other option, the bank will say "Oh, so you DID need a PPI coz your salary was not good enough to sustain your expenditures."

Truth is that we were borrowing for 'essential everyday spending' because, the money that we would have used for the essential spending was going into the loan repayments. Please help me fill this bit. Should I choose the first option and iterate each loan with dates?

Thanks a lot

Autumn

Oh thanks for clearing that up.

I hope this won't backfire as "Yup, you needed the PPI in that case."

I will ask them to check their own records at the bottom of that section.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi,

Sent a completed FOS to Barclays mentioning the PPI Policy numbers along with a covering letter a couple of weeks ago. Got a text from them saying they are looking into it.

Today got a letter from them saying I have been refunded the PPI policy no. XXXXXX7892.

This is a policy no. for an ODI (monthly ppi) claim I made last year.

Nothing to do with my Barclay Loan PPI insurances.

Looks like they are winding me up on this one.

This is a policy number that does not match any of my Barclay Loan Policy nos. that I am currently claiming.

What should I be doing next?

Thanks

Autumn

1. I am writing - Please note that the Policy mentioned in your recent letter does not relate to my current claim. Kindly check your records for the following policies again.

2. Should I attach a copy of my FOS and its Covering letter too?

Thanks

Autumn

Ok

I have not yet sent the letter in my previous post.

But, this morning I got the attached entry from the bank in my account.

Does it look like the right amount they owe me?

Thanks

Autumn,

Did you prepare your own spread sheet, and does the amount deposited to your account bear any resemblance to the figures you either submitted or produced for yourself ?

They should have sent you a breakdown of the figures, if they didn't, then you can ask them for a copy. They will have deducted from the refund, 20% tax I think. If you do not pay tax, then you will need to reclaim that from HMRC, so you will need the breakdown so you know how much they deducted.

I will ask dx to look in on you so he can advise further.

I imagine you are reasonably happy with the sum ? Well done.

almost 12k in PPIicon Refunds?

Thanks luv. But, I am not sure if they owe me a bit more. Still waiting for the break up.

CitizenB and DX

Did you prepare your own spread sheet, and does the amount deposited to your account bear any resemblance to the figures you either submitted or produced for yourself ?

I am afraid I did not prepare one. I just sent the FOS. Barclays always does a Gesture of Goodwill everytime I send them a Spread Sheet. But, if I send them an FOS without a spreadsheet, demanding a proper refund I get full amount in my bank within a few days. This has happened on my ODI and Additions and Credit Card PPI claims before.

They should have sent you a breakdown of the figures, if they didn't, then you can ask them for a copy. They will have deducted from the refund, 20% tax I think. If you do not pay tax, then you will need to reclaim that from HMRC, so you will need the breakdown so you know how much they deducted.

This refund has only come as an entry in my bank account yesterday. Waiting for their letter showing the break up.

dx - you did the maths for me like this ...

Loan A

01/12/97 ins £1311

so XX% of every £250.88 payment was for PPI

19/03/98 shows loan A being refinanced by loan B = £8651.56

there is no rebate listed so XX% of that settlement was Loan A PPI that rolled into loan B.

loan B

19/3/98 shows ins £1306.82

so XX% of every £462.42 payment was for Loan B PPI

so XX% of every £462.42 payment was for Loan A PPI

25/06/99 shows loan B being refinanced by loan C = £6798.67

there is no rebate listed so

XX% of that settlement was Loan B PPI that rolled into loan C.

and

XX% of that settlement was Loan A PPI that rolled into loan B.

loan C

25/6/99 shows ins £2751.80

so XX% of every £478.54 payment was for Loan C PPI

so XX% of every £478.54 payment was for Loan B PPI

so XX% of every £478.54 payment was for Loan A PPI

3/10/2000 shows ins refund of £1321.75 [Loan C PPI I suspect]

loan D

3/10/2000 shows ins £3680.57

so XX% of every £289.40 payment was for Loan D PPI

so XX% of every £289.40 payment was for Loan B PPI

so XX% of every £289.40 payment was for Loan A PPI

01/12/97 ins £1311

19/3/98 shows ins £1306.82

25/6/99 shows ins £2751.80

3/10/2000 shows ins £3680.57

Roughtly, these entries alone total up to be about 9K. Shouldn't in such a case the refund be a bit higher than 12k? Even if they deduct 20%? 15 years of interest!!!

Thanks

Autumn
