Hello there.

I was sanctioned for 2 weeks for missing two an A4E appointment. Do you think it's worth appealing. I do have a doctors note saying I was suffering from depression at the time. Also from what i can gather from reading a post on these forums I will not be eligible for a crisis loan and my HB will be stopped?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi, Sorry but I am not much help as I do not really know what an A4E appointment is, but I am guessing that it is something to do with welfare benefits. What sanction they take or cuts to your benefits will depend on the rules and also the circumstances as if you had a reasonable reason such as ill health or a hospital appointment they have to take that into consideration. I would suggest that you take the doctors note to a welfare adviser, one stop shop, or the CAB welfare people and explain what has happened and the reasons: that you had or have depression and ask them to take the case up with the DWP or council. I am sure they will be able to help and sort it out for you. Good luck.

When you missed the A4E (Work Program idiots), did you tell them? At the time or after? If not then I'm not sure that you have much of a case but try ringing CAB Adviceline 08444 111444 between 10am-4pm & check your options.

If you are suffering from depression & have a sick note, why aren't you on/applying for ESA?

Work for my local CAB but my views and advice are my own. Try AdviceGuide or Adviceline (08444 111 444) for CAB help ;)

So i can't get a crisis loan. Do you think there is any point in appealing, as yes i could have phoned them to let them know i couldn't make it in. It is really my fault but i had so much on with moving and health stuff that i didn't make it in. I know i am wasting my time appealing, just have to see the 2 weeks out without money. What do you think?

I think that if you can prove that your circumstances, health and moving, contributed to the missed appointment there is nothing to be lost by appealing as long as you are apologetic and informative (and maybe a letter from GP would be better than "just" a sick note...what is the worst that can happen? The cannot sanction you for appealing the sanction....

Yes definitely appeal this if the sick note covers the date of the missed appointment.

Were you given an opportunity to give your reasons as to why you missed the appointment?

You won't get a crisis loan to help if you have been sanctioned and unless you are in a vunerable group you won't get hardship either
