Even tho I specified to the Passport office when I went for a "on the day" passport collection they still issued me with a biometric passport........to be honest I feel sick as I am strongly opposed to this kind of thing and I feel already I have had my basic human rights comprimised.

Basically I know these are not mandatory and I would like to know if anyone can help:

Can I ask for a standard digital and get them to clear my biometric details in the same way that you can do this with companys?

Any help would be great

And have my rights been violated especially as I asked NOT to have one!

Thanks

Jake

Hi

The only thing with these biometric passports is that america requested that everyone who had a passport issued after a certain date (can't remember what it was though) had to have one - so if you don't you won't be able to go to america - however this may not bother you much.

Do I need a Biometric Passport to enter the US?

The US Senate announced on 15 June 2005 a one-year extension (to 26 October 2006) to their requirement for Biometric Passports. This means that the digital passports that we currently issue (machine-readable, with a digital image) will continue to meet the criteria of the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) and most British Citizens will not require a US visa. Please visit Embassy of the U.S. London or Foreign & Commonwealth Office Home for more detailed information about US visa and immigration rules.

The only mention of opt out on the passport website is that the UK has opted out of having finger prints on them

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) – which sets international standards - nominated facial recognition as the primary biometric with iris and fingerprint as backup but not mandatory

I have to admit I didnt think there was an opt out on the biometric data
