How do you tell a 9 year old that Santa is as broke as us and wont be coming this year?

How do you tell a 9 year old that I have hidden my car because we are short of cash and the council want to sell it?

How can I pretend to my son that it is a good world when as soon as you get problems everyone and their dog wants their pound of flesh and charge you for it.

How do you deal with a 9 year old crying in the kitchen because he is hungry?

I was on my own with my debt problems until I found this group, I now have the confidence to tackle my enemies, I now have the knowledge to play them at their own games, I know how to beat them and I have support from you guys.

How do I tell my 9 years old son who I have vowed to protect for as long as I draw breath?

How?

Oh pi-stoff that made me cry. How indeed. Just remember that to your 9 year old, the most important thing in the world is that he has your love and support. Kids do pick up on things and it breaks my heart when my 4 year old son asks for things and when I say not today he totally accepts it. It breaks my heart when he says "Haven't we got enough money, can I get it tomorrow or when you get paid", but then it makes me laugh when he sees the Halifax advert on the telly and says "Ooh I hate the Halifax!" Your strength is in your son and no debt collector/ bank/****** can take that away from you. You are getting stronger and will get through this and maybe next Christmas (when your debts have gone because of unenforceable agreements:D) You can get him everything he wants and some. The most important thing is you have each other and you will get through this. Chin up:)

Oh I know exactly what you are going through I have 3 children in between 6 & 12 and we will be having our home repossessed any time..

We are supposed to be British citizens where is the help for us??? plenty of immigrants coming in taking our jobs, houses and money with all the help they need and they send the money back to their own countrys dont even spend it in the UK.... Really sorry but it is not fair.. Our Fathers & Grandfathers fought for us to have a good life what the hell went wrong?

Why dont you sell your car yourself?

My car is worth £300

If I sold it to pay my debts I would have no way to earn any more money, my business has failed, I am attempting to return to my previous career as a field service engineers that requires the car for work.

No Car No Hope!

Have been offered the difference between the £20 and £12 charges from Capital One -- am sending LBA for remainder.

GE Money - Received settlement of £441, being total charges requested. No interest though.

CCA'd Bank of Scotland / Blair Oliver Scott to produce CCA Agreements on two Credit Cards - well in default, although still chasing payment!!!

what does your boy want for Christmas?

He doesn't want a lot, he doesn't ask for anything because he knows were struggling, he just wants something from Santa so he can come in and open them on my bed Christmas morning.

He has relatives who don't see him much and they will get him lots of stuff, I just want to keep the Santa bit alive for as long as I can.

I will make sure he gets something if its the last thing I do.

As is clear from this thread, children are so understanding, it would probably be more upsetting for me if he doesn't have some nice things.

You could have a look at your local Freecycle website. There may be something on there.

I don't really know what else to say except that I really do wish you & your son all the very best.

Maybe there is an idea here - but I dont know quite how it would work -

If any of us who have older children have toys /games or DVD etc languishing in cuboards - some not even used

Perhaps you could set up a kind of freecycle thread with the items and donate them - but in return the person could just send you enough to cover P&P if it was a large heavy item?

But I dont know how you would cover the giving out of addresses etc?

Just a thought .

hey jansus that is such a brill idea you know

i had wondered surely such a great group like us could get past the data protection rules,,,ie address info and the safety aspet for us all

it could be such a nice thing to do for others - but how could we do it in practice only by putting stuff on ebay and then letting people here know the items and just pay say an amount plus packing , dont know too much about ebay rules and regs,

that way its kind of annonymous re addresses, and payment for the packing would be easier

these are just my ramblings, but im for it to pass on some of stuff my daughter has to caggers and their kids,

I had a couple of v-poor chrimbos when younger, and remember them very clearly (theyre the one you remember - unfortunately!!!) . . especially look on parents faces when they were trying to be enthusiastic about what they got me . . .

I'm really not happy about your situation at all . . i have a nearly new dvd player in cupboard - not touched it in long time (- its yours if like

I know its not a very 9 yr old thing, but biggest pain for 9 yr old is when asked at school what got and die inside with embarrasment when have to answer!!! . . ''and i got dvd player'' is big (save face) - cant mock that !

I absolutely 'insist' you have it . . .

Would have to post though (i'll cover postage), im in cambridgeshire, and drive is too far for my pocket . . does anyone know how i could get this to pi-stoff if they dont want to trust with address (which i would understand fully :))?

hiya just an idea guys

what about if we can address to the post office, dont they say offer a collection point???

only other thing i personally can think of if anyone has personal friends in TNT transport in the bristol area, Not my area as hubby works for them, i was thinking just address it to that person at that depot/office and then pistoff could collect with just a name, therefore no address details needed

just me rambling again sorry, if that aint going to work out

This thread has brought a lump to my throat showing the worst of money problems, and the best of CAG.

My kids are 22 and 20 now but I well remember the struggles when they were that age, and I saw how much other kids seemed to get. They're old enough to understand now, but it still hurts that we can't help them as much as we'd like. Your son knows you love him and that's what matters. {{{{hugs}}}}

Yes,a great response, with lots of suggestions.

Its not so easy to co ordinate with so many different suggestions.Maybe it would be best for all those wanting to help out,to pm Pi-stoff themselves, and make some arrangements to protect privacy, and allow her to decide whether to accept ?

She can then report later in this thread.

Just a thought that both keeps arrangements personal, and also serves the purpose of giving a little too,for those who want to.

Symbio-dek, I appreciate that Cambridgshire to Bristol is a long jaunt. Could we not set up a relay of transport, each person taking it to the next person in the chain. The final destination could then be either one local user or business that would hold the item for collection?

Pi-Stoff, do not post your name and address on the thread, for obvious reasons, to avoid unwanted attention. Just PM any user with your address if you want to accept their help.

It really is heart-warming to see the generosity of our users. I sincerely hope, that with their help, you and your lad WILL have a happy Christmas.
