Had an issue with this company as well in that I've launched a claim in May 2013 and I'm still waiting for a result. Communication has been poor, I've e-mailed the person dealing with my case and a reply in December 2013 stated he was looking in to some data evidence relating to my claim shortly. However, I've phone him this month and he said the data is corrupt and it will have to go to the IT department. Personally I smell a rat, very frustrating and I'm thinking of putting a complaint in to the regulatory body.

Legal aid is not available for personal injury cases I'm afraid.

You are perfectly entitled to change solicitor. The thing you have to watch is if you are on a 'no win no fee' arrangement. If you discontinue your case without their consent the NWNF element might fall away and you will then be liable to pay for the work they have done at their hourly rates. Read your engagement letter carefully.

You are going to have to be a bit proactive in chasing them on a regular basis about your case, and make a written complaint if not satisfied.

What kind of claim is it? 10 months isn't that unreasonable depending on the circumstances.

It's premature to complain to the regulators now, you need to make a formal complaint to the law firm first.

You can change a firm whenever you like, just find a new firm who will contact the old. The new firm will have to agree to recover the costs and disbursements of your old firm when your claim settles.
