Hi

I am new to the boards so hope this is in the right place.

I recently applied for 12 months interest free credit for a new computer via HFC Bank, but it was declined. I have never been declined before and was totally embarrassed. I phoned the bank from the shop and asked why, they said they couldn't say except that I didn't meet the criteria, but that they used Equifax for credit ratings. I obtained my rating from the Equifax site on the internet and spoke to Equifax also. My account was completely clear with no problems. I then spoke to the bank to find out why I had been refused and they said I had to write in. This I did, asking for details of why I had been refused. I have just received a letter back from them saying I did not meet the banks criteria. They have not given me any details at all. I am concerned that I have now been refused credit which impacts on any other application for credit I might want in the future.

Am I within my rights to insist they tell me why I have been refused, and do anything about the refusal?? I don't need the money now, but want the refusal overturned. Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks for reading this long saga

Vicki

Regards

Vicki

No the bank do not have to give you any further details than what they have provided you they dont refuse on a single reason they will have "scored" your application for credit and you obviously (for what ever reason) fall outside of their demographic. It can be for silly reasons like perhaps you dont own your own home and they mark you down heavily for that.

If your file is clear then I would chalk it up to experience and not worry too much about it

Hi

I think HFC are reading these threads - within an hour of posting my enquiry, they were on the phone explaining the situation and offering a loan - very pleasantly I might add. So well worth it.

Many thanks
