Hi folks, just a quick question , using the advanced spreadheet from Vampress chambers ( thank you so much! ) in column I it asks for the balance of your account, in my case by the time the interest is taken off my account the balance was positive. Should i use the balance from when the interests starts? Cheers

from my experience i only use the same balance figure i.e "closing balance" on each statment for each entry.

bearing in mind tho that i have only been dealing with credit cards, so the balance never goes into credit.

heyo. made a boo boo on my prelim for Halifax. as the spreadsheet had a formula error and was adding big percents for big payments i was making.

have fixed the error but was too late as already sent the prelim with the error. in my LBA shall i edit the figures and send the new charge sheet or stick to the original. although the new figures will mean they owe me less lol.

You are actually 'sposed to enter the average of the balances during the interest charging period .. I personally could not be doing with the calculations so I just used the balance on the last date of the charging period ... ie the dates in which the interest was calculated.... this really isn't the right way to do it as I say it should be an average but My theory is it's up to the banks to provide more accurate calculations if they so wish.

Also you may find that when your accoutn is in credit the sheet may look a bit strange .. make sure you watch out for this :)

£30ish. just wanna make sure they dont kick up a stink if it goes to court about dif figures.

I think for that amount it wouldn't matter either way tbh ... I would prob just senf the amended schedule at the next stage (LBA) and not even mention the amendment ... they prob won't even notice anyway but as you say at least you'll know it's right :)

Hello,

I wonder if someone could help me?

I'm filling in the sheet and I'm on the "Estimated Overdrawn Balance" column. All is O.K except for one cell. If I type any figure into this cell it doesn't calculate the rest of the row correctly: The portion of the interest or the interest on the portion of the interest. All that appears in those 2 cells is: "#N/A Did not find value 12/6/2001" but the date for the row seems to be displayed correctly.

Any ideas?

I'm not really a Big Fat Greedy Banker so please don't treat me like one. ;)

I've now got further down the sheet and the interest charges now "out number" the bank charges (i.e. There are rows of interest on the right that don't correspond to rows of charges on the left) As soon as this happens I get the same error on every interest calculation and the sheet no longer calculates the charges at the top.

Is it something to do with the way the charges side of the sheet relates to the interest side? Does each row of interest have to correspond with a row of charges?

Due to a lot of queries regarding interest I have designed spreadsheets that attempt to calculate a fair claim.

Please ask in this thread if you have any problems with it, and either myself, or someone else will try to help you.

These spreadsheets are freely given to help you. Please consider a donation to the site if you decide to use them so that we may continue to help you.

:)

Some spreadsheets can now be downloaded, using the links below.

Please choose the spreadsheet relevant to your claim - there are different versions depending on if you are in England or Scotland, which spreadsheet package you use, and also whether you are claiming for a bank account or credit card.

I am new to all this and have got myself thoroughly confused with so many different spreadsheets. I am trying to get back charges for my son and daughter in law. I have looked at the google spreadsheet and it seems quite straightforward but I am unsure whether or not I use the simple sheet without interest or if I claim interest. If so do I claim the statutory interest or contractural interest and if so what rate of interest do I enter. Sorry to be a pain. I just hope I can find any replies as I seem to get very confused as towhich forums it will on!!!! Heres hoping someone out there can helpme Thanks

No not if it's a bank account you are calculating for ... there are usually more on the right than on the left .... carry on ur doing fine ... then lines don't 'read across' as they do on the credit card ones (ie it's treat as 2 seperate columns of ino) :)

Hi Chezt, thanks for the reply.

The problem is its not working. As soon as there is more interest than charges (rows not value) it won't work out the interest anymore. I just get "#N/A Did not find value 12/6/2001" in the interest portion column. It also doesn't work out the totals at the top.

As well as this, I'm alo getting the same error "#N/A Did not find value some/other/date" on one other row.

As soon as I delete the offending rows the totals at the top work again as soon as I put them back in they don't.

Any ideas?

I think this happens if the last date in the charges column is earlier than the last one in the interest column .... if you enter another date the same as the last interest date entry on your spready it may rectify the error?

ps .. presumably the date it has an error with is 6th December not 12th June?

Firstly it's up to you (or whoever) what you actually claim back ... here are your options ...

1. Charges you paid

2. Charges you paid + interest you paid as a result of those charges

Plus

contractual interest (Claim this from the outset on your letters)

or

Sec 69 interest (Don't claim this until you get to the filing the court claim stage)

(So 4 options really)

As for which sheet to use - if you have all your statements then choose one of the advanced sheets for your claim

Which interest rate? - Use the current rate which the bank charge you ... if it's for a credit card then I would use the standard rate charged for purchases .... if it's a bank account then there's another decision to be made .... the current authorised OR unathorised rate ..... there's lots of discussion again on which should be used and as with the contractual interest you should just be prepared to put forward your case as to why you are entitled to claim it .... again this is quite straight forward if you do plenty of reading along the way with your claim.

As a final note it's also a good idea to start your own thread to record your claims progress & ask any Q's you have along the way

Hope this clears things a little for you? :)

Im actually having exactly the same problem with my Abbey spreadsheet. Its exactly as described by BFGB. I have 19 rows of charges and 29 rows of interest. If the charge date for any given row (column A) is later then the interest date for the same row (column F) then I get the '#N/A Did not find value 02/28/2000' message in column J.

I had no problems when I did my Halifax spreadsheet. The only 'solution' I can see at the moment is to leave blank rows in between the charges so that the dates correspond.

No if you just do as I suggest by entering a later date (today's maybe?) in the interest column but don't type any detail or amounts beside it then your sheet should calculate ok ... try it & let me know if it works ... I'm sure that's what I did on mine :-)

Hi ,

On the simple spreadsheet , what goes into the box which reads "SCHEDULE OF CLAIM FOR CHARGES" ?

Many thanks,

vmac

Which sheet are you using? This just sounds like a heading for the sheet I would think & not to be changed :)

Thanks for your reply Chezt. Unfortunately it didnt solve the problem for me (Id be interested to see if it worked for BFGB). I tried putting today's date in Columns A & F but it only rectified 2 rows - the rest remained with the error in column J.

Check all the dates you have entered are in the american format then ... that could be a problem .... ? I only actually had to put a later date in once & not down the whole column BTW

There is obviously some 'conflict' on the sheet somewhere but without actually seeing it it's hard to know what or where

Hi chezt ,

I'm using this the calculating interest spreadsheet from the templates in the forum, entitled: England - Simple - Excel. There are some headings at the top .. such as, name, acc. no. etc. etc. You click on them and enter your own details. Then there's a box with "SCHEDULE OF CLAIM FOR CHARGES" which is also clickable for you to fill in. I don't know what this means - Thinking about it, do you think it could mean the time period for which you're claiming for, for eaxmple, March 2001 - 2006 ?

Kind regards,

vmac
