"The Department for Work and Pensions has spent £700 million on Universal Credit since the programme began in 2010. However, very little progress has been achieved on the front line. Fewer than 18,000 people were claiming Universal Credit by October 2014, out of around seven million expected in the longer term – just 0.3% of the eligible population.

We hope the Department’s expectation that this number will rise significantly by February 2016 proves to be accurate.

As the Department has justified this spending on the promise of benefits in the future – such as from higher employment - rather than on the actual delivery of benefits to date, we simply cannot judge the value for money of this expenditure at this stage.

Crazy !!

People like him and his boss are the sort that will wriggle off the hook,it will never be their fault, even if this dumb idea of UC hasn't achieved anything , it is typical of the Tories to waist money on hair brained schemes that where not needed in the first place,it's also a mess that who ever gets voted in in may will be left to clear up, and no doubt the cons will play the blame game card on that at a later date as childish the politicians seem to be these days, they perhaps should ber paid in rattles dummies and nappies,

My question is, what does IDS have over Cameron that he gets to keep his job, and decide he doesn't want to be reshuffled, despite his obvious failures. Anyone else would have been out - so what ace does he hold which gives him the power to stay, where others would be gone?

Indeed, there must be something else Cameron would have just moved him to a new job or the street !
