Sorry if this is the wrong section - just after some thoughts and advice

Hi. I applied for a job last week based in the home counties where I live. After I applied I got the email confirmation through and done some research and it has been advertised on Monster and UJM (I know they are linked somehow)

Anyway, 15 minutes ago I got a call from a mobile number saying I had been short listed and could I come for an interview on Tuesday. Even at short notice I agreed and they said they would send me details by email or text (not got it yet) The salary is £25k p/a and for where it is based that is high so that got me thinking straight away and maybe even though it was advertised as a senior admin post the company is sales and marketing so wondering if it is POTENTIAL to be 25k and a very low annual salary.

To add to my suspicions I asked the company name and they said it was Solar Power GB Ltd so I looked it up and it is a family run business - looks a legit website but the address for contact is based in Braintree Essex and seems a residential address and I was told job was Brentwood which I guess could be the office address.

The ad also said contact XXXXX for an interview - apparantly I have been short listed though, Hmmm. Now it will cost me £21 to get there and that is money I can ill afford to lose for something that is already giving me suspicions.

Something doesn't feel right with this from the salary, location, website, how late they have left it to contact me, needing someone immediately etc. Obviously if I do go and was offered the job I would want a contract of employment, salary details etc before I even thought of starting - something also tells me it will end up being a sales rather than admin role. To add to this, it is Bank Hol weekend and I have no details of where interview is, who is interviewing etc - they simply said we will email or text you details and there are no assessments it is just a chat etc.

Am I right to be suspicious about this?

Exactly my thoughts, too many things seem wrong with it - if a job was £25k and local it would me more than 'a chat' and also I would have had details by now. Think I will give this one a swerve unless I get a formal email with all details on it by Monday.

I have done all I can, application, company research which shows a residential address as the head office, website says "family run business" Got the JD from Monster which then directed me via Company Confidential via UJM. I have left a voicemail on the number that rang me, left a message on their website and unless I get details of where I am going on Tuesday morning it is a simply wild goose chase. I can do no more, unless I have an address I cannot go and their website doesn't give an office address only the home residential address. All sounds a bit suss to me and I can ill afford to lose £21 on a whim

All I can add is that the address they give in Rayne, Braintree is a farm with quite a number of commercial units (google earth) There are other businesses there as well. I see that they've recently advertised 8 posts at their new office in Brentwood. So I would say they are a legit company of Installers but what sort of job they're offering I couldn't say.

You could try asking them their policy on interview expenses.

First thing Tuesday morning, ring your Ingeus "adviser" and instruct them to provide travel expenses for this interview - Might as well get something out of the buggers.... If they won't play ball, inform them that they would miss out on any 'job outcome' payments.

As for the job its self - It could be £25K+commission....

Side note: I have had a run in with a solar power company in Essex, and Brentwood is vaguely familiar - The outfit called an ex-directory TPS registered number and got a right ear bashing after waking me up (had just finished a night shift).

Just make sure the job doesn't involve telesales and/or cold calling - You don't want me on the other end of the line :mad2:

Have to agree with you i am afraid..

My Husband had an interview the other day, salary was 25k + when he got there, no salary it was self employed and the 25k+ is what you could earn.

Ingeus very rarely pay you travel expenses upfront, well mine certainly doesn't. it gets paid into your bank account 1-2 days after your interview.

and they only pay you 25p a mile anyway.

The job sounds well fishy so id give it a miss if i was you!

UPDATE:

No calls, no texts, no emails - basically it sounds like a [problem] via a 'job' advertised on Company Confidential which links the 'job' to UJM. I have left messages on the number I was contacted on as well as on their website but don't expect any response. I am certainly NOT going on a wild goose chase tomorrow. Is there anywhere I can report this posting on UJM? Basically, I am more or less certain it is a telesales job with a sh*t salary plus commission and is falsely advertised.

FOUND THE REPORT FUNCTION ON MONSTER - NOW REPORTED!

You could try asking them their policy on interview expenses.

The employer will have a budget for recruitment.... and, in future, when an interview is offered, respond by suggesting that you will confirm attendance subject to the employer providing written confirmation that all travelling expenses accrued will be reimbursed.
