I'm aware there are tons of topics relating to this company, but I'm just after some advice regarding them.

I received a phone call off these guys today, regarding a 'personal matter', and

they asked me to confirm my address.

I asked them to confirm it, and I'd tell them if they were right.

The man on the phone said,

"Look, if you don't want to confirm it, just say and we can end the call here."

So as I said I wasn't going to confirm anything, he put the phone down.

Now, the thing is, it hasn't actually been said why they're calling.

I've Google'd the company, and seen that it's a DCA, so I'm glad I didn't give them my address.

Now, looking at my credit report, everything is absolutely spot on and up to date.

The only thing I can think of is a very old loan default that was statute barred two years ago.

Since this occurred, I've got car finance, a small personal loan and a credit card, all to help build up my credit file.

The loan just sits in an account and pays for itself (I know I'll be adding the interest),

and the credit card just pays for petrol and gets paid in full every month.

I've also passed a credit check to become a private tenant in my house.

So if the reason for the call is this old default, which they haven't confirmed, how can I approach this with them?

I don't want to give them any info that I don't need to,

and don't want to cause problems for myself. Also,

after this phone call I had with them today,

what's normally next?

Any help with this is much appreciated. Thanks!

Why would you want to approach them with regards to it? If you are sure you know what it is and it is Statute Barred.then ignore them. You wouldn't discuss your private business with say the window cleaner or dustbin men....same goes for them:-)

Regards

Andy

It's just that I've read the horror stories about them calling at all hours etc. And, I don't actually know the reason that they're calling, I'm just assuming (and we all know what happens when we assume, don't we!).

Thanks for your quick reply though!

they as like any other DCA are NOT BAILIFFS

and have no such legal powers

dx

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Yep. Scotcall are the lowest of the low. They do not deal in enforceable debts, or if they do, ive never seen an example of it. The telephone call was a simple phishing attempt. They do not hold any info on you and they want YOU to provide the info so they can fill in all the bank parts of the debt.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

Thanks folks!

That said, should I expect more calls from them? I refused to confirm my address and he was happy to end the call.

If they do phone back and confirm my address as 'NFA', will that leave them more inclined to leave me alone?

Plenty of ways to get a number. Ex directory simply means you arent listed in a BT phonebook. You can still get your number dozens of different ways.

That's completely false. They are following the Data Protection Act 1998.

They need to confirm at least 2 (but can ask for 4 to be safe) pieces of information to discuss any matters. This is to satisfy that they are speaking to the correct person so that personal data is not given incorrectly. That's the law.

the law is you don't have to talk to them at all.
