I missed my last payment

- I just overlooked it

got a letter dated 28 August saying Overdue Account: £48.55.

If you don't pay in full, we may pursue you in the courts and add £65 for legal costs and fees.

We will register defaults with CRAs and "impact" your ability to gain credit, etc.

[English is not their strong point - impact is not a verb.]

Phone us to agree a solution to this "serious issue", etc.

I can pay, and will pay, but I feel the rude and aggressive tone deserves a response.

I'm considering delaying payment until 28 September and writing to them to say that this is because of the tone of the letter.

Why didn't they just write and ask me to pay the overlooked bill?

What a repulsive company!

They are all the same pj2...needs stronger regulation.I assume they are only asking for the missed month.....they usually threaten the whole balance if one payment missed.

Have you a particular reason for not using DD or SO payment method?

Regards

Andy

I cancelled my DD a year or two ago when I couldn't afford to pay, and have since paid quarterly when I got the bill, although sometimes taking 3 or 4 weeks to get round to it. I don't think this is a monthly amount - it is as far as I know a quarterly bill. Maybe I should just pay it tomorrow, but it is the tone of the letter that I object to. My credit rating is already shot to pieces, so threatening "to impact my credit rating" is neither here nor there.

PJ2 it is tempting to further p**s them off by with holding payment for a couple of weeks or so.

However I don't think that most of the Utility companies would write a letter like that on the first time that a customer missed a payment. That letter may well mean that you are on their list as some one

who is slow to pay at times and they may be looking to take stronger measures in future.

I'm not sure what realistic stronger measures there can be over £48 bills not paid for a couple of weeks - they may just be upping the threats in their letters. They may not realise that polite letters may extract a greater degree of compliance than these threats to divulge my confidential information to the world via CRAs.

Well companies being companies eh?

Just pay whats due and if its slow... hey so what, as long as its not persistently in arrears then I would just ignore it

Hi

Are you sure this is quarterly? I pay my water bill six monthly and I can see nothing on their website suggesting otherwise (unless you are in an arrangement to pay differently)

If this is six monthly then you don't seem to be using a lot of water (or is this just the sewerage charge which people in essex and suffolk pay)

If you are asked to deal with any matter via private message, PLEASE report it.

Everything I say is opinion only. If you are unsure on any comment made, you should see a qualified solicitor

Silver Fox, The water bill says "period of charge 26 April to 2nd August", and it includes both water (£31) and sewerage (£17) (I think Anglian pass the sewerage fee onto Severn Trent Water) - so it is just over three months.
