I have received a Doorstep Collection Notice from Westcot.

The debt has been passed to them from RBS.

The entirety of the debt is bank charges - I went 0.53p overdrawn on my account overnight,

paid the 0.53p back in to the account the next morning as soon as the bank opened but they refused to waive the £30.00 bank charge.

I then opened another account and asked RBS to close the account.

They refused and the bank charges snowballed.

Is it likely that Westcot will send anyone to my door? I am in Scotland.

Is there anything I can do, anyone I can write to to contest this debt?

If so, should I phone Westcot and tell them I am disputing the debt?

hi m

i very much doubt you'll see wthem in scotland

its just a threat-o-gram

to try and spoof you into contacting them.

dont!

how old is this debt snd when di it happen?

they'll never go near a courtroom if its bank PENALTY charges.

have a read og bcobs too.

you might be able to get the charges reversed.

dx

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Hi

Thanks for replying. This is from Dec 2010.

The bank let the debt get to over 800 pounds of continual bank charges before they sold the debt on.

It has been suggested that I may be able to get the debt wiped on the basis

that it is entirely made up of bank charges,

disproportionate to the amount overdrawn.

I will have a read of the link you posted, thanks.

Have a read of the BCOBs articles in my signature - highlighted in green. it seems to me as though the Bank have not treated you fairly and if these are simply charges and interest on a default charge, you might be able to make a good show of getting RBS to remove these.

Once you have read the articles, you should make an official complaint to RBS head /registered office. There is an example letter posted by someone who actually did get charges refunded because of a similar situation, in amongst the articles below.
