Vanquis - Strange response to Letter of Authority

I am dealing with Vanquis and some other issues on behalf of a relative.

 

We sent them a signed letter from her, giving me full authority to deal with them on her behalf.

 

We received a "response" today - demanding I fill in their own little form, and supply a photocopy of my driving licence or passport. On reading the rest of the form, despite me only dealing with the relations issues on her behalf, signing this form will give them the right to access MY credit files, and other databases, and to communicate my details to 3rd parties.

 

Is all this Normal, or are they taking the mick?

Yes there should be no need for you to have to provide this.

I have dealt with signed authority many times with a variety of banks without any problem.

I deal with lots of debts for a few family members - I tried writing letters on their behalf but it just got in a muddle as they were asking for signatures from the person who owned the debt and myself.

 

So now I write and send all the letters and just get the replies dropped off at my house.

The problems I have found are usually with third parties.

The bank/CC issuer do not inform third parties and so you then have to send signed authorities to them as well,which can be a pain if there are accounts getting passed from one DCA to another.

A signed letter of authority is all they required; creditors have an obligation to deal with an appointed 3rd party. End of. They will still write directly to the original lender but they cannot refuse to deal with you. So ignore their purile missive.

I'm sure all Executors, Solicitors & DMCs bend over backwards at that request.

Send them a note asking them to explain their reasoning for such a request. Add a sentence in it stating you will be sending their response to the Info Commissioner and the OFT.

And remind them that, persuant to you original request they are contravening OFT guidelines if they do not recognise your authority.
