I changed my bank details for my DWP pension last month. All went through fine although fine although 2 days late. Tues as oppose to the Friday before.

This month however they have processed it a week late. My Asda shopping has been cancelled.

They cannot do an emergency payment into my bank account and I will not receive a giro until Monday?

Help does any have any suggestions? They admit its their mistake.

I dont know if the following will be of any help to you. You could always give them a ring and find out.

http://www.social-fund.co.uk/crisis-loans/

Crisis Loans over the Telephone

In some circumstances Crisis Loan applications can be taken over the telephone in an interview that will take around half an hour, at the end of this time your application will be assessed by the person that you were speaking to whilst you are on hold and if awarded – the amount that can be paid to you will be sent to your local Jobcentre Plus office for collection as a Giro that you can take to exchange for cash at you nominated Post Office that day.

The crisis loan application process is very simple, initially you will need to call the Social fund telephone number for your area and go through a set of security questions ( you will need your National Insurance number) and once you have done this you will need to explain the circumstances of your crisis.

Unless things have changed it used to be possibly to collect emergency payments in the form of a giro from the local office. There used to be fixed times during the day to be able to do so.

Some more information for you.

Thanks but not really applicable as I am disabled. They really need to be able to do an payment as an emergency into your bank account.

I am just amazed they cannot do that? Or can they and they just do not want to do it.

Unless a friend can help you with money then a Crisis Loan is your best option. Generally this will only cover 80% of your living expenses to cover you till your giro arrives on Monday so in reality would be no more than £30. Could a counter payment not be issued due to their error and a friend collect for you - with your signed authority??

Can a crisis loan be paid into my bank account? So then I can pay my local shop to some deliver food?

I think you would need to explain your personal circumstances, that you are disabled and unable to get somewhere to collect a giro.

Point out to them that you need the money in order to have your groceries delivered to you.

I will try that and report back a little later. I feel physically sick.

I think this is one for my MP. What is the point of encouraging benefits to be paid into bank accounts and then when it there error leaving people without money as they are unable to make an emergency bank payment into the account?

I think a letter to your MP would be a good idea :)

Up until recently payments into banks were slow, taking either 3 or 5 working days depending on the type of benefit. However things have now changed & quick payments can now be issued that are credited within 3 hours.

I'm not 100% sure all benefits can do this yet but RP shares the same computer system as Incapacity Benefit & IB can definitely do them because I have requested them for people whose money I have stopped!

Phone again asap & before 12pm & ask to speak to a supervisor. Be polite & explain the error has left you with no money over the weekend. Hopefully if the 3 hour payment is possible they will be able to help. However if the giro has already been posted they may not be able to issue a duplicate payment.

If they are not able tohelp a Crisis Loan would be your next option.

Good Luck.

Hello there.

What level of person did you speak to? As jabba said, speak to a supervisor. Often people further down the chain will try to fob you off. As we say here, keep asking for someone more senior until you get someone who can make a decision and activate it.

Be assertive, you deserve the money. :mad2:

My best, HB

I don't understand why at all you haven't got your benefit on time. I've changed bank details before and my money went in as normal. The lady did check with me (I claim 2 different benefits, payable on different weeks) when I next sign on - she told me that some people chnage their details the day before benefits are due to go in or something like that.

End result Crisis Loan of £17.63 will be in my account within 2 hours! They found me on the computer and filled out my form. That was relatively easy I wonder if they share computers and there where notes about this on my file? Extremely annoying that I have spent since 8am on the phone due to Pension Service being unable to do emergency payment when it was their error.

I am pleased you have finally managed to resolve this. I would still consider a complaint to your MP. This is simply not acceptable.

A FEP, thats a same day banking, usually takes three hours but cant be put into certain accounts,

these are usually accounts with roll numbers, mainly building society accounts.

As the OP had a crisis loan paid as a FEP into their account then the above is not the case but be aware if you have a roll number then this could happen to you.

Glad the OP sorted it in the end

I still have NO money. A friend went to cash the giro that I received today and could not as its Crossed. They want that cheque back before they will issue a new one uncrossed one. Apparently the Job Centre could issue me a cash over the counter payment but I need to someone to drive 5 miles to get that and queue. No neither they or the Job Centre can make an instant payment/transfer into my account.
