Car lease company chasing disputed parking charge

Hi all,

 

A friend got a parking invoice, he ignored it but the company he leases the car from have paid it and are now chasing for the invoice plus admin and VAT charges, any idea where he stands??

Lease/hire agreements usually specify they can charge for "parking fines". But as these can only be issued by police and councils, their terms cannot apply to PPC car parking invoices.

 

I would continue to dispute this charge and ask them where in their terms do they claim it covers private invoices.

Is there any particular legislation with regards to signage that these companies should abide by, the reason I'm asking is that there is no warning signs at the entrance to this particular car park and no signs seem to be visible within the car park??

They could have signs all over the car park but it wouldn't matter, it's an unenforcable speculative invoice, not a penalty, fine or ticket.

Usually these companies keep your card details and then charge you automatically.

 

How is this company pursuing your friend? If they've paid and want reimbursing you can tell them to go and whistle dixie.

Basically the lease company wrote stating they had paid the 'fine' and not want to be reimbursed he called them and they state that a new member of staff had paid this instead of passing it on to him, he said too bad then.

He is writing a letter to them at the weekend, so wants to ensure he has all bases covered

Just tell them no agreement exists between the two of you to pay such invoices and that you are unfortunately unable to help them any further.
