Hi

My friend was made redundant in March this year. She signed on JSA.

When she went to sign on she was told she was late for an interview which she knew nothing about she had never been informed of this interview either by letter or in person.

This morning she recieved a letter from JSA stating that a letter was sent out to her. She has never recieved this letter.

Has anyone any idea what she should do as they are threatening to stop her JSA which will have a knock on effect on her housing benefit etc.

Thank You

I think their was a court ruling re posting of letters mentioned in one of the postings in one of the dvla threads.

Not relevant here I'm afraid as that was you sending a letter to them.

The DWP do have rules for sending letters to you. Usually it is 2 days after posting it is assumed that it has been delivered if sent 1st class (Longer for 2nd class.) with allowances for bank holidays and weekends. Note day of printing the letter may not be day of posting as it depends when it was put in the post tray.

Not sure on the OP's prob someone will be alone who should be able to offer advice on that.

I know they stopped sending out opointment letters at our JC, they hand them over when you sign on and get you to sign that you'vr recieved it. that way theirs no argument.

Your friend should call them and ask for good cause to be taken into consideration. In my experience, it is often accepted once or twice, though if she's constantly failing to receive letters, they may ask her to investigate possible problems with her mail delivery.

So can it be confirmed as to whether JSA as been suspended ?

What exactly does the letter say aside from them saying that a letter was sent ?

if dwp suspend his/her benifits then they should get in touch with the housing benifits section to declare a change of circumstances. HB &TCB are both means tested so stopping jsa should not affect it. the biggest problem lies in that DWP tell HB you no longer recieve jsa and they assume you have a job so get straight on to them when things change.
